Hi, I live in Australia and just wanted to clear up a misconception in your video. There isn't actually much sand in the outback where bearded dragons live in the wild, its actually mostly rocks, clay, and dirt. Since the dirt is red in the outback, some people mistake it for sand, let me tell you, it is not. The only place there's naturally occurring sand in Australia is at the beach. Besides that, I loved your video and found it really helpful! I'm sorry if this comes off as rude, I thought everything else in your video was brilliant and highly informative. Keep doing what you're doing!

been trying my best to educate myself as much as I can, and there seems to be some small spots with reddish sand. I think that's where the red morph originates from. regardless you are completely right, most places are supposed to be completely sand free. I guess that might be why red dragons are rarer? I dunno, I am merely a humble amateur.

I just want to thank you so much for these videos. I just rescued a bearded dragon. He’s 3. And apparently, he’s only eaten greens for two years. Zero worms/protein. The owner claimed they made him sick. He was also in 24 he light. I am a retired veterinary technician that loves to rescue. So I really wanted to give this guy a better life. I owned an iguana growing up but a bearded dragon is different. I’ve found so much help from tour videos. Our new guy is now on worms again. And so happy. Of course, greens are still about 70%. He’s also on a basking lamp and uvb during day then dark at night. We’ve only had him two weeks and he’s already looking better. Also, he’s so friendly. It’s almost like he wants to be handled. I’m just so thankful we got the opportunity to rescue him and offer him a better life.💚💚💚

Hi, I usually never comment on videos, but I just wanted to let you guys know how much I appreciate your videos. I just bought my daughter her first bearded dragon. She’s nine years old. She wanted a dog, but I thought this would be a good alternative since I’m not home enough to take care of a dog. Lol. She immediately fell in love. so now I’m on here every day trying to learn as much as I can about this animal as this is my first experience as well. so thank you all for your informative videos. 😅Well! I’m a parent, and we got my daughter a 20 gallon tank, but because at the pet store told us it was ok meanwhile since is a baby Dragon, then to get a 40 gallon 🫠. We asked for months many times at the pet stores about more info before to get a dragon and every single one of the persons we asked told us the same, so 7 days ago we got the dragon, unfortunately just barely found out all this information after purchasing the tank and the baby dragon 😢well we can work with the situation and later on we’ll get a bigger tank

I wish I was able to prepare myself. My friends all know how much I love beardies and reptiles in general, but I never did much research. I just received a call from a friend who worked at a pet store that a 6 month old bearded dragon was getting abandoned because the family didn't feel like feeding it as often as they needed too. So my friend brought the bearded dragon over to my place and said merry early christmas.

A deep layer of a soil/sand/clay mix is best. Are your beardies housed together?
@Neochet
@Neochet 6 ай бұрын
I know this comment is a year old but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using (the correct type of) sand as a substrate, 50/50 play sand and top soil mix is what is generally recommended and is better for your dragon than tile or paper. A bearded dragon that is healthy and properly housed will never get impaction from loose substrate, the reason the impaction thing took off is because people were 1. keeping beardies on calci-sand which is a big nono, and 2. people weren't keeping their dragon properly. The only instances a beardy will eat their substrate is if they're lacking the correct nutrients, so they seek it from other things they can eat, or when they eat some alongside their insects, the latter of these issues are a non-issue, a healthy beardy will pass the substrate with no issues. The only time paper towel or tile is better than loose is if the dragon has a pre-existing health issue such as MBD, or if the dragon is less than 6 months old (still debatable)

I use calcium sand for substrate currently. I experimented with a few other types, but this seems to be making her happy. She likes to dig when she is going to bed and when she lays her unfertilized eggs. I did try carpet (bad idea), newspaper, and I also took advice from my sister and used tile on her prior tank. I also have a front opening 40 gallon terrarium for her so I can access her easily without starting her. I hand feed her mealworms in her room and have dried bearded dragon food from the pet store that doesn't have bugs in it in her room at all times. Loki is my 3rd reptile. I bought her from a pet store when she was the last in her group and I wanted her to not be left behind. You never know what pet stores do with small animals after they get bigger. She has been with me for a very tumultuous 6 years now. She is a member of my son and I's family, along with out cats. She even enjoys playing with the cats every now and then, and sometimes she sleeps in my room. I have a CAUTION: Free-Range Dragon sign for my door when she is out roaming around the apartment. She has used the bathroom on my carpet, but that is what carpet cleaner is for. I may be a little more relaxed about my zoo than most... I would like to comment on another of your videos that I am currently watching. Sorry, I just let KZbin go on my television. This is on a Frequently Asked BEARDED DRAGON Questions from a year ago. You were discussing dealing with "aggressive" (aka UTTERLY TERRIFIED) bearded dragons. As I said in the last paragraph, Loki has been with me for 6 tumultuous years. These years included moving multiple times and 6 months of homelessness in which she had to live with my mother. She has been with me through depression and anxiety that make me a terrible pet parent while I am battling with myself. Strangely though, I have only had to get her use to me again once, but it was a long and emotional process. A lot of getting use to being stabbed by her spikes when she flattened herself and started hissing. A lot of patience and knowing that she thought I was going to eat her. You have to commit yourself to it and be willing and able to spend time with your dragon. Currently Loki is on my bed watching KZbin with me.

He seems to be doing really well and has plenty of room to move around! I wouldn’t go any smaller than a 30 gallon for a baby. Eventually, I’ll move him in a 55 gallon once he gets bigger! But a 40 gallon for a baby is the best! Love your videos!

Also, I’m definitely gonna try the fasting method. My baby beardie is only eating little bits of veggies every 3-4 and only goes for protein every day. Thank you for the recommendation!

Your videos have been invaluable and you have such a relatable manner and a cute family! Was just given a juvenile beardie last weekend from a friend who's son was not taking care of it. We are animal lovers/rescuers, but this is our first reptile. I fell in love with our beardie from day 1 and have been on the hunt for good, realistic, and proven information/help. I want to do right by him/her and we've made many positive adjustments in this first week already. Huge thank you for putting this info out there. From - Your NC friends!

Hello I have a question, I just recently got an adult bearded dragon and can’t get his temperature in the enclosure right for the basking spot. It’s always around 80 degrees and I’m using a 100 degree lamp. Is there any way to make his enclosure hotter I don’t want him to get sick. Sorry if u already posted a way I’ve been trying to go through all the videos

Hello, I am planning on getting a baby dragon, I'd rather not start with a baby because I dont want to accidentally mess up and create any problems for it later in life but it's hard to find adults where I am. I have been doing a lot of research and I was wondering if big woodchips would be an okay substrate for it? The woodchips seem way too big for a baby to accidentally ingest any so I was wondering if it would be okay for them. I am willing to switch it out for another, better substrate if it's not

It came with the UVB bulb & a basking bulb, I purchased an additional red light 50w heat bulb. Is it ok to use the basking bulb that came in the kit and return the red light heat bulb? And how long should I keep these lights on during the day? Thank you so much in advance! 🙏🏽

First off I appreciate how your willingness to help us give our animals the best treatment possible! You are always to the point and easy to understand what we should be doing. 2nd the fact that you make it a friendly atmosphere to where we can ask questions without feeling dumb for asking is awesone and especially when it comes to the well being of our animals the saying no question is a dumb question couldn't be any truer I believe! 3rd my fiance and I have been struggling to get our Dragon to eat veggies for weeks since we got him and last night we were trying to slip pieces in as he was eating his crickets and super worms to no avail and today this video notification pops up in my recommendations to save the day lol. But thanks to you two I'm going to try the fasting method and hope it works for us. THANK YOU BOTH for all of your knowledge and keep up the wonderful work! See you next video.

We just found a helpful trick this morning you should try and put in a video. We cut up pieces of squash and other veggies and put in his food bowl and he still wouldn't eat. I grabbed my temp gun with the red laser to check his tank temp but when the light moved across the food he must have thought it was a bug and began eating and chasing the light and eating what the light was on. Couldn't believe it.

I feel much more confident being a beardie owner after watching just 2 of ur videos...I have worried sometimes if im caring for him right but now i am confident I am doing a great job. The only thing I do use is sand, but I feed in a large bowl and clean up anything he kicks out. I have seen ppl use wood chips, what is ur ideas on that? And also what are your thoughts on live mice for feeding? Mine seems to really enjoy pinkies, and even some small jumpers but everyone views it different....some say no don't do it, some say it should fit between their eyes and some say they can handle up to 3x the width between their eyes? I know its a lot but I'm really excited to have stumbled across ur page.

It should. Your dragon may be frightened by something moving past the glass, and acting in defense because of it. Covering the glass on three sides may help your dragon feel more secure.

My beardie uses the Zoo Med double light fixture and I’ve had him for 3 months now. It should still work perfectly fine and serve the same purpose as other light fixtures. I have him in a 40 gallon, and the heat and UVB equal out the tank nicely, leaving a cool side and warm side for him. Worked for me so far! :)

Nice to see you watch for that in the comments. We all have to start somewhere and should be able to have a place to ask the simple questions as well as the advanced ones. I recently got a bearded dragon. I have been turning his lights off at like 11pm and turn them on at 10am. Most of the time we are still up at 11pm. Is it okay that I am turning his lights off although there is still movement around him?
@wafflepup7593
@wafflepup7593 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s perfectly fine. For my beardie, his lights usually go off around 10:45 pm and then turn back on at 8:00 am, and even if he sees something, it doesn’t disturb his sleep at all. I usually go to bed later than the time his lights in his tank go off, and his tank is in my room. My lights are on still sometimes, and he’s fast asleep in his tank, not being disturbed a bit. Hopefully this kind of helps :)

My daughter got me me a Dragon for Mother’s Day, she was sold the 10 gallon setup lol. Let’s just say it ends with an “O” lol. Luckily I had a 20 gallon from upgrading my fish. I just bought him a 55 gallon tank yesterday, I wanted to hold out for the 125 but he’s just gotten so big and the brand new tank was only $66.00! My question is: the 55 has a lot of real estate in length and height but not width, is that okay? Also, being that it is so tall should I place the heat lamp inside (it just sits on top of the screen on the 20 gallon) or just offer vines, rope and branches that go up higher? Thank you also for the veggie tip! I wanted to fast him since all he’s ever wanted to eat was crickets and worms but my family kept saying I was being mean 🤬 on a weird note, the only veggie he has ever eaten and loves are peas! Lol 😂 I’m really happy I found your channel, thank you for sharing 🤗

Bearded dragons spend most of their lives roaming the ground in their natural habitat, so as long as your cage has good floor space, the dimensions should be okay. In our facility, we allow our basking lights to hang down in the cages, as our tanks are also tall. This method OR the use of climbing branches works just fine. However, if you have house pets that might attempt to climb into your dragon's cage, it might be best to use climbing branches. This way, you still have use of a lid, which can keep your other pet(s) away from your beardie.

Is paper towels ok for subtrate in a bearded dragon tank?
@wafflepup7593
@wafflepup7593 4 жыл бұрын
It depends. I suggest not using paper towels, as a beardies claws COULD get stuck in them, and it could harm them in some way. I personally use reptile carpet, as I found my beardie not only prefers it more, but it’s a healthier way to go than just using sand or something else.
