also something that kurtis didn’t mention about the labrants is that they’re taking their 9 YEAR OLD daughter out of school and homeschooling her so she can be an extra set of hands because they are having another child and apparently they can’t take care of all of their kids. they are obviously a successful and wealthy family, why they are deciding to take their nine year old out of school rather than just hiring a nanny is beyond me.

My mom was 46 when she had me. I was completely unexpected, as my parents were not aware they could still have children. When my mom found out she was pregnant, she broke down. She was so worried because just 2 years before, she’d given birth to my sister, who was completely deaf. While deafness is not particularly rare, it was very hard to get help and guidance with raising a deaf child. The deaf community believed that my parents should raise my sister completely deaf, but others told my parents to get my sister cochlear implants. My sister ultimately got implants (which led to my mom being ostracized by the deaf community in the area), but that was obviously not the end of the troubles. My mom quit her job to drive my sister 2 hours away 5 days a week to a speech therapist. My parents were exhausted, and my mom was scared to have another child. So my mom made an appointment to have an abortion. Let me be completely clear, my mom was scared and nervous about having an abortion. It was an incredibly difficult decision even though my mom had always been pro choice. Ultimately, my mom decided to cancel the appointment because she just couldn’t go through with it. I found out about it when I was 19, when my mom told me through tears. Despite being adamantly pro choice, my mom was so ashamed that she’d even considered aborting a child that she had in a very difficult time in her life. Considering all that my mother was going through, I understand that of course she was considering aborting me. And the fact that my mom was so scared and so ashamed is proof that people who are pro choice are not just casually making this decision. How dare people shame others for making such a difficult and trying decision!? My mom is a strong, intelligent woman who prides herself on her integrity, and it hurts me to see her feeling so ashamed about even considering to make a decision in such a hard time. I will always be pro choice. Cole labrant is a little sh1t.

My biological mom was 13 when she had an abortion. You want to force a 13 year old to have a child? She even neglected the 5 kids she had from there on out. I honestly wish she would have aborted me. My bio father sexually, physically and emotionally abused people in his life, including his children. There are worse things than death, and I'm tired of people acting like the worst thing to happen is to not be born.

People seem to forget that torture and immense horrors exist in this world. I was emotionally abused, and that alone has changed a lot of who I am and my life, forever. I can repair and be the best me, but that trauma and abuse will always be there. Healing doesn't mean there isn't permanent scar tissue or nerve damage. The same goes for mental health. Kurtis' little aside about how there were no teens in medieval times is, actually, super right! You were a child till you weren't. There was definitely a concept of "adolescence" but I'd say it was way closer to our understanding of a "young adult" - ie you're in the prime of your life, but like, you're still an adult. Weirdly, this phase of "adolescence" lasted for WAY longer than being a teenager does today - starting at marriage age (anywhere between 10-16, you really can't generalize since "medieval times" is like a whole continent over 800 years) and ending in your late 20s! So Kurtboy, you'd be an adolescent too!

The way you posted this as the governor of Florida signed a law banning abortion after 15 weeks without exceptions for rape or incest. Pregnancy in America is already sucks when folks want to be pregnant so it's that much worse when the pregnancy isn't wanted for whatever reason. I know you said you shouldn't be talking about this because you won't ever experience any part of pregnancy firsthand but, if some KZbinrs are going to be openly anti-choice, it's nice to know you are vehemently pro-choice. I think it's different to argue pro-choice as a man versus pro-life. Kurtis can empathize with pregnant people and advocate for their rights. The baby isn’t alive so it can’t die. They just stop the cells from developing further. It’s so frustrating to deal with people who can’t understand basic biology, so I sympathize. Until the fetus can survive outside of the womb, it isn’t “alive”, it’s a parasite living off of its host.

I remember when I was in my first year of high school and I was in an assembly. And there was some random old man telling us a story of how he did one of these assemblies at this school before. He said how when they were talking about abortion he asked the students for stories or something. And then some boyfriend and girlfriend ended up crying together in front of the entire school cause the girlfriend didn't know that the boyfriend was gonna be aborted, and how they were so sad. And he used this probably fake story (cause what highschool couple cries in front of the entire school cause of an assembly by an old white guy) to say how sad it would've been if the mom had gotten an abortion, cause then there wouldn't have been that beautiful relationship standing there that day. And remembering that my school let some dude come talk to their students all the time about abortion like this is so gross. Btw, my mom was considering not having me, and I know that and it doesn't bother me, cause like Kurtis said I wouldn't know.

He could ditch the crutches at any moment and walk fine, real people who need mobility aids cannot just cast them aside and become able-bodied again like he did after filming wrapped up. But my mom said it was one of the hardest things shes ever had to do. And i don’t doubt it cause she probably would have liked to keep my brother but couldn’t because she didn’t have enough money to take care of him. I love how when he does slip up and use women or she/her, he'll correct himself as soon as he realizes, and always does at least once in the discussion. It's clear he's trying, that's what really matters to me, at least. Partially cause society, like, if society uses a specific term, we can unintentionally pick it up and say it as well. My nonbinary friend goes by they/them, but their mother uses their wrong pronouns. Sometimes when I'm around them both, their mother says the wrong pronouns enough, in the heat of the moment I might slip up, even though I don't see them as their AGAB, at all. I know them as nonbinary, they told me their gender, somewhat, after we first met more-or-less. When it's just us, or I'm talking about them, I pretty much never slip up. This has also led to my dad struggling with getting their pronouns down, because, well, I know this friend because their mom is dating my dad. Point is, he's making a clear effort, and isn't making a big deal out of it either. (Also, Mama Doctor Jones is a certified OBGYN, who uses only gender neutral pronouns and terms. She's super trans inclusive, she does a lot of videos on gynecological information and misinformation, and does it in a really healthy and positive way. Highly recommend if you don't already know her videos and channel.)

I have a friend who for a long time was very pro life. Her reasoning was that her mother almost had an abortion for her youngest son; it was the parent’s 3rd unplanned pregnancy in a financially unstable household of 6. My friend was very upset with this idea because she of course loves her brother now and imagining him not being born is very difficult. HOWEVER, now that she is an adult who has a sexual relationship with someone along with university, a job, and big responsibilities, she is pro choice. She can now come to terms with that looking at abortions in terms of “who wouldn’t have been born” is an immature, self-interested view. In the moment a person finds out they are pregnant, there are things bigger than the completely hypothetical idea of who that fetus could develop into.

i get method acting to a degree. if you’re playing a character that has had experiences that you’ve never had - it could be hard to put yourself in those shoes. some experiences (like not being able to get to the restroom by yourself) come with a lot of emotions and little awkwardnesses that you just wouldn’t imagine. but that being said, i also get that it would get old to be around
@janeeyre19902 жыл бұрын
I think most non-actors understand that. The problem is that method actors are almost always rich abled white cis men who only ever experience hardship when it's part of a role, and even then it isn't real hardship or oppression. It's the closest they can get for a weekend or two, like a fantasy camp. It's very insulting to people who live those identities. I think of the scene from 13 Monkeys where Brad Pitt is in a psychiatric institution, which he did method acting for. I am proudly disabled and have had to rescue disabled family from abusive institutions. The people there never, EVER look or act like Brad Pitt, even after his method acting experience. His privilege is written all over his body and body language. It was like taking a Ken doll and placing him a Barbie Asylum playhouse. That's why actual representation and hiring disabled actors, actors of color, etc. is so important.
@janeeyre19902 жыл бұрын
Only hiring abled actors to play disabled characters is especially problematic because that means Hollywood never has to be accessible. If you hire a disabled actor, you need wheelchair accessible bathrooms on set. If you hire Jared Leto, why bother?
@the4green2man2 жыл бұрын
@@janeeyre1990 yeah. if a character has a disability, i’d rather see a disabled person cast in that role. i think they’d probably bring a lot of perspective that wouldn’t otherwise be there. i think about hunter schafer’s casting in euphoria as a recent example. i don’t think her character could have been what it was if they’d cast someone without her life experience, and she ended up being really involved with the development of the character throughout the show. i wish we could see more of that kind of shit. but unfortunately it’s a marvel movie so they needed a big name, and honestly who better to play a literal vampire than jared leto. it’s telling that the only notable thing he had to method act for the role, was the chronic pain part. everything else must have just come pretty naturally to him.
@lillaorban85402 жыл бұрын
This is why empathy is really important for acting. Because someone who can empathize deeply will have a better chance of understanding what it's like to be in a situation they've never actually experienced themselves. Also instead of method acting, actors could ask production to reach out to experts or people who have had those experiences they've never had to interview them and try to understand better themselves instead of, like in this example pretending in real life that they're disabled, which like someone else commented is incredibly disrespectful and also degrading to the crew. Like the other person commenting said it would be better if there was better and more honest representation of life and diversity in movies. The whole point of acting is putting yourself in another person's shoes (whether fictional or real) and living it on stage or while being recorded. I don't wanna knock anyone's process on how they get their work done but method acting as an excuse to be rude and awful to other people is really messed up and seems like it completely lacks empathy. Learning to empathize better might reduce the need method act in the first place. Maybe anyone interested in acting well should just learn to be more empathetic, but I don't know I've not read any research about this. It's probably better for society overall if people are just nicer to each other though instead of sending each other dead rats.....

“pro-life” is honestly such a misnomer. it’s really anti-bodily autonomy & anti-medical care. restricting the rights of others is not fostering life, it’s a direct attack on life 😡

Imagine they go to get Jared Leto from the break room on set and he is just hanging upside down on the ceiling like a vampire

People always say “oh if you can’t take care of your child give it up for foster care” don’t understand how badly and mistreated kids get in the system and even if they find parents to take care of them most of the time they get abused.
@astrowolvez2 жыл бұрын
And those same people aren’t going to care how foster care is. They only bring it up to serve their narrative.
