Country people are so interesting to me. I'm Filipino-Chinese and would go back and forth between the Philippines and China growing up. Our version of "country" people are basically just people who live outside urbanized cities. They live in [rural] provinces, grow up in farms, embrace a simpler way of living, are more traditional, and yes of course many of them marry their cousins and second cousins because of how small their population density is... But most of the "country people" where I'm from are also from lower income groups and are often deprived of basic government services, access to quality education, etc. Being "country" isn't a flex where I'm from. Most of them want to move to the city because life is just much better here. City people often pity "country" people here lol. It's crazy that American country people are so different. It's like a completely different universe. First time for me to hear about somebody who's actually proud of growing up in a farm.
@nehalilisays Жыл бұрын
In industrialized countries farming becomes an industry, too. Most things are done by machines and the farmers who have really big farms become rich business people. All the small farms either get closed/sold or they survive by offering something special like organic produce or "vacation on a farm". Rural people being less educated and more conservative seems to be a universal theme though...
@theisaacpigg27_32 Жыл бұрын
So your version of country people is people that live in the country?
@beef-stew Жыл бұрын
It’s actually kind of like that (or was like that at one point) here in the US. It just depends on the location
@rhondajohnson2725 Жыл бұрын
Country people are still often looked down on where I live in the US. I live in a rural area in Minnesota and the towns are really small here. But the townspeople still make fun of the country kids because small farmers are really poor.😮 So the country kids still get made fun of for being poor by the kids in town. It just depends on where you live I think. I lived on a small farm and did really stupid things as a kid. I shouldn't have survived to adulthood. But the bragging rights are phenomenal!
@Robyn-yc5md Жыл бұрын
That's actually not too far off from country people in america, moderns times have just changed things quite a bit as well as the popularization of country music has created abunch of people who enjoy the aesthetic and culture of it without actually being considered country. I think quite a bit of the US is more rural anyway so the heavy culture its created makes sense.

What you said about how a lot of country singers didn't actual ever work on a farm is so true! My parents farmed a lot while I was growing up, but I don't even consider myself a "country kid" because I never had to wake up early to milk a cow. Like the most I ever did was clean up after chickens and bury a dead baby chick when I was nine.
