DK Jr was the first arcade game I bought, and that port looks incredibly faithful to the source. I like that they made the cartridge orange, too, much like the color of the original DK Jr arcade cabinet.

Man, I love that game, amazing release, and the quality, another level. I remember having the cartridge for my Atari XE in the 80s, I was so happy that day I even bring it with me to the school to admire it. Thanks for sharing John, as always you never let down.

While the ColecoVision isn't my favorite system of all time(that would be the Super Famicom), it is my favorite nostalgic console by far. It was the first system I ever got for Christmas, and I cherished it for years until I sold everything to buy an NES years later. It's truly amazing to see what some of the homebrew titles look like today, as we could have only dreamed of games looking that good at the time. Opcode Games is by far one of the best teams out there, as some of their releases take awhile, but they are always worth the wait, and then some.

I didn’t realize DK Jr. had different level order between the U.S. and Japanese versions.
@atrain8182 күн бұрын
Japan went jungle screen, then the screen with the spring and the moving platforms (and vines) then Mario's hideout. Then the screen with the chains & locks. As you progress on the U.S. version it will eventually get in this order. After you complete the 3rd loop (level). Basically, every time you free donkey kong on the chains & locks screen, you progress a level.
@Savannah_SimpsonКүн бұрын
Donkey Kong does too.

When you hear the “Can Can” music at the arcade, you know someone’s gotten to Mario’s Hideout. 🤣

Loved the ColecoVision! I got mine for my 14th birthday (it had been out for a while, but when I got in on the action, it was much cheaper and on the way out). My favorite games were Donkey Kong (of course!), Montezuma's Revenge, Gorf, and Popeye. Wish I still had it, I had a whole box of games.

The Adam version with the bakery level was never released. It’s out there to play, but the level was never finished so things like collision aren’t present. I wanted an Adam so bad so I could own that game, but I would not have dared ask my parents for such an expensive computer. Good thing since it barely got any support. Edit: You say the original Coleco release had all four screens? It’s been a long time, but my memory is that it didn’t have Mario’s hideout and that was one of the reasons I wanted the Adam version. At least the NES version was more complete.

You are correct, I was getting this and the 7800 version of Donkey Kong Jr. messed up. Thank you for the information.

Opcode did an amazing job with DK Jr. Arcade! And wait, did I hear that Opcode might be doing Frogger soon?! Awesome! I'm mostly excited for Pac-Man DX to be released as I pre-ordered the game a year ago! Still, this remake is awesome compared to the Coleco version and the Adam!

I always liked the idea of the SGM, long overdue memory etc. expansion of the frankly basic Colecovision hardware, but boy has it been a rocky ride to many actually using one. I followed the project for a little while but got tired of the wait and difficulty in buying one. These ports look great but much like the last time I checked am I just going to end up watching a few select people demonstrating the SGM rather than being able to buy one myself?😅

Great video John! Colecovision was my favorite console from my youth - got mine in first or second grade. The arcade ports were outstanding on it. Those ports would build your confidence only to have it shattered when you went back to the original arcade machines :). What kind of mods do you have on your console to get that crispy video output?
@johnhancockretro3 күн бұрын
While I have a RGB modded console, I was showing footage on my CollectorVision Phoenix, a FPGA console that was made in very small quanities(you probably know about this). Anyways love your channel too, thanks!

The Donkey Kong JR arcade game is too hard. I prefer the Colecovision and NES versions. I dislike DKJ for the Atari 8 bit computers. It has all four screens but it's too hard. I prefer the original Donkey Kong. It's better than DKJ and it's easier as well.
