Teach world history of slavery 1st, then merge it with America's evolution of it, then the US part in it. In that order. This will help to avoid a A'Historical false understanding. Distinguish from the America's and the US. Teach all the success stories and all the stories of free blacks also.

The dispute over proportional representation was not over whether _blacks_ would be counted, but whether _slaves_ would be counted. Slaves would not be citizens and could not vote, but their presence would give slave states outsized influence in the federal government. The non-slave states didn’t want to count slaves toward representation _at all_.

Neither could women OR non-landowning WHITES vote, Something conveniently left out of 1619 propaganda.

It's wonderful seeing the positive work being put out by the 1776 Project. Bob Woodson is a true leader and it's heartening to see young people, like Coleman, speaking out.

The partisan bias is what drives me crazy. There’s very little truth seeking, only blablabla to shore up existing partisan bias. So freaking exhausting.

LOVED those last few minutes. I feel the same way as a woman and as someone with chronic illness... I don't relate to feminists or hard core chronic illness advocates who talk about a world I can't relate to in such a strong way other than sure, here or there it sucks to be both identities.

The columnist mentioned Trumps immigration policies, I would remind him that Former President Obama was called the" deporter in chief" for good reason.

If you can pay slave owners for the lost of their slaves and do not think the slaves deserve anything. that says a lot.

The idea that the US Constitution was "anti slavery" in Hughes framing is preposterous. Maybe reading Madison or Waldstreicher could help his Ivy League level ignorance.

They weren't slaves--- they were indentured servants. So, there's that... to begin with....
@liberality
@liberality Жыл бұрын
Not the case - there's a clear legal distinction between chattel slavery and indentured servitude, even if the lines were blurred in practice. Slaves like Oludah Equiano were inland captives traded as chattel with Europeans at the coast, not contractors with fixed-term servitude entered into to clear debts.

Great content, Hughes is the man, and 1619 is propeganda, certainly not historical facts that should guide our school systems
