I'm 36 and I've lived with the nostalgia from when i was a kid and painting my model cars for a long time. Specifically 25+ years. A while ago i decided to seriously start collecting Ferrari 1/18 models. Mostly Hot Wheels Elites and a few Kyosho's. Unfortunately only Bburago has the Ferrari license nowadays and their cars are not even close in details and quality of Hot Wheels. I keep them stored in the box right now, hopefully one day I'll have enough room to display them in a nice cabinet.

Model cars are my thing. The collection is well over 200, in may scales. Mainly 1/18, 1/43 & 1/64. I also modify them to what I want. The last one was a 1/18 BMW M3 E30 went from a rally car to the B&H Bathurst car of Tony Longhurst. Before that was the Roland Ratzenberger BTCC car. Also built a lot of Colin McRae & Ken Block cars. I draw the decals from scratch aswell. It all started when as a young child going to the shop and I guess seeing a toy car (hot wheels) and wanting it. Then every time we went out, I had a car in my pocket and always wanted another one. If anyone needs any tips on modifying theirs, give me a message. I also had scalextric as a kid, but it was never down for long as it was in the lounge, so just a weekend. Mighty Metro was my first set, with the 6R4’s. Never like the train set I had aswell. Andrew

Also a top tip. When you first start your car. Mainly diesels. 5mins of the journey with heaters on cold. The engine temp warms up quickly. Where as if you demand heat from start. You can do a 15-20 journey and it won't register heat on the temp gauge.
@jackgill8847

Is it damaging to have the heaters on straight away? I always try to let it idle before my short commute and where possible leave the a/c off but it’s sometimes unavoidable. Cheers

fantastic episode. This was my favourite episode thus far. Aston Martin, E60 M5, and model cars. That is a pretty powerful combination of stuff as far as my head is concerned! I adored all of it! I am m in the ‘trade’ 😏😏 and next week a buddy of mine who also is in the trade is coming down from Lancaster to my neck of the woods in Devon, delivering a shiny 2016 Skoda Octavia to a customer and taking in PX an old and apparently unreliable Skoda Octavia estate which will be driven all the way back to Morcambe - I am hitching a ride with him back to Lancaster to spend some time in that lovely part of the world and hopefully buy find some cheap deals. we were going to put the PX skoda on a truck, now after listing to the S85 piece we are going to drive it! Devon to Lancaster, let’s see how far we get… if we breakdown near Clifton Chris, I am hoping you’ll have the kettle on 😁 All the very best

Years ago my wife and I had a car break down near a small winery. After a while we started talking to an older resident. She had memories of beautiful moments in her youth with a similar car. We pulled chairs out of her garage and drank wine together that was made when our car was new (1976). Priceless moments that you don't have with a new car.

Two Car Garage: After working for a corporate for 15 years, you suddenly look in the mirror to see lines appear from nowhere presumably where my hair went to hide. You have just been let go and can’t help but cry with happiness when your severance cheque is handed to you. At this point you couldn’t be arsed with investing in anything other than yourself. So…£100k budget, a steal to regain your soul, for two cars on your ultimate road trip. The first car is to take you from Cape Town, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Finishing with beers on lake Victoria. It needs to work for all those environments- creativity welcome. Then you hop onto a first class flight, while getting hammered on the plane on your way to Japan where your ex-colleague has invited you to tour the country ending with laps around Suzuka. Only requirement is that it must be Manual, Japanese and rear wheel drive. Love the show lads from down in South Africa.

After a very rocky few years, I think Aston Martin are finally making coherent cars which are true to what and Aston should be... Beautiful, powerful, luxurious sports-GT cars. Avoiding the F1-inspired carbon-clad track weapons. That's Porsche and Ferrari territory and they'll beat Aston at that game every time. Aston Martin's do not need to be as 'dynamic' as a Ferrari or Porsche either so I think that's an unfair criticism, and for me an Aston is closer to Bentley, than those two marques. They've also avoided the hybrid silliness and kept it simple, as that's what customers want. Again, good decisions. They haven't made a single car I would be tempted to buy for almost 10 years, but right now the 707, DB12 and the new Vantage would be very high on my list. All this has come along at the right time as Ferrari don't currently make a particularly appealing car (to me anyway). Maybe the 812 is still the pick for me but that seems last generation now. Good for them anyway, let's just stop with the flowery nonsense in the marketing blurb as it just looks insecure and desperate. Make great cars and have confidence in the brand.

You want to buy him two model cars for his upcoming birthday, the choice is yours. Good episode. Fan of model cars myself, particuarly once you get to 1:18 scale - there's something about the physicality of the scaled version of the real thing that I find very appealing. Not sure about Neil on Astons - personally I've had a few and get them despite the Bond stuff not because of it. Can't stand the 007 plates on them etc. Might not be the last word in dynamic excellence, but in my Vanquish II with the NA 6.0 V12 I can forgive it a few foibles - as a driving experience it's still essentially everything that's missing from most modern turbocharged stuff. It would fall apart on a track I'm sure but who cares really, it's a GT.

Two car garage; You're a father of 2 in your early 40s, working a non descript middle management job and approaching the inevitable midlife moment. Your eldest son has just graduated Uni, mech engineering and has a passion for cars that youve nurtured and supported. You had set aside 20K to help his university but he ended up working to support himself through (#proud) and now your going to gift him a track car that you will store and somewhat maintain for him so long as you both can enjoy it and spanner on it together, dont want the hassle of trailering as it'll affect your choice below. Must be able to be occasionally stored outside due to garage space. You've also just paid the mortgage off, taken the wife on holiday and greased her into getting rid of the old Mondeo. With the now mortgage free money your going to finance something a bit more invigorating up to 50k. Your wife's only "suggestion" is it cant be too harsh when she's in it and it cant piss the neighbours off when you leave early for your track days. extra points for something that will turn heads at the collecting cars meet ups.

Its funny that now everyone associates James Bond with Aston Martin. An Aston Martin only appears in one of the books. James drove a pool DB2/4 MarkIII in Goldfinger as it suited his cover of wealthy Gentleman touring Europe in order to keep tabs on Euric Goldfinger. The car he actually owned is a modyfied Bentley. The new Vantage does look brilliant though.

TOPIC OF CONVERSATION: Does a company being in motorsport actually make people buy the road cars? Did Merc winning make people buy their cars? If Aston wins in F1 will it improve their road car sales? Thanks for the fantastic podcasts! 😁

Love the show as always! But I have a question... You love cars and purity of design and execution (Chris especially so) yet I can't remember a time you've mentioned the GMA T50 or T33 which seem to deliver driving purity in spades. I'd love to hear your opinions on these seemingly spectacular cars

My Volvo 940 turbo classic is wonderful to heat. It is toaster after 2km drive, starting from -20c°. I cant get it to go under 13l/100km on 98E5. Webasto is must on any diesel here in Finland. They simply wont get warm even after 20km in motorway in real cold weathers.

I'm also curious about the plans for this version of the Vantage. Has AM hinted at any special editions for this iteration? Will we see an F1 Edition, AMR, or something like the GT8? With the level of performance the standard Vantage will provide, will there be a need for a V12 version?

When my parents used to buy me a new diecast Corgi or Matchbox car and a friend was bought one by his parents, we would take them out of the box, paintwork shining in the sunlight, and smash them. We would then stick them on a little pile. Why? My friend’s Father owned a scrapyard and we used to set up our toy cars just like his yard. What our parents must have thought 😮

For a bunch of petrol heads who should know what they are talking about it’s amazing how off the mark and contradictory they are on Aston Martin. Petrol heads want to buy cars where the manufacturer makes its own engine or at the very least goes to an engine supplier like Cosworth…Aston will sadly fail because as a brand it’s on par with Ferrari and Porsche but those two companies don’t go to Mercedes for their engines for their sports cars. If Aston Martin tomorrow completely scaled back on stupid expenditure (did away with its entire marketing team) and took a little inspiration from GMA they might find a way to go back to Cosworth supplying them some great British engines. Harris one minute says a sports car with over 500 bhp doesn’t hold his attention and now he likes a 665 bhp Vantage that most likely will not have a manual gearbox option and a price tag of £180k for a Mercedes steering wheel and SL interior, another car for the swan song that is Aston Martin and I’m someone that has a 71’ DBS V8 & a 11’ V12 Vantage. Aston needs to offer a V12 engined car that is on par with the Ferrari V12 and a Vantage with a V8 that’s on par with 911 GT3, until then they may as well just become an alternative Bentley brand with is a great shame

I have a similar love for Jaguar that you lot have for Aston. I very much want them to succeed, to be lovely to drive and to own… but.
