When a record store owner makes a video about finding their personal grails, it catches my attention. 🤩 I thought for sure I was going to see Farm but I have no doubt that I will see it in one of your videos soon. Great Vertigo swirl labels and the Funhouse record is super cool. Take care.

Dillon - you're such a fabulous story teller and host. You make it look effortless, which for you it no doubt is, but for many is an enormous challenge that they often don't ever succeed at. Kudos man - you could talk about the weekly garbage pickup and I'd probably still watch the whole 24 mins worth. 💣

Hi Dillon, Champion chat as ever! Great to hear you name checking Anne Briggs. She was an early inspiration to the Sixties folk revival here in the UK. She had plenty of friends who are well worth checking out such as Johnny Moynihan and Bert Jansch. While we're at it, you might give NIc Jones a listen, especially his album 'Penguin Eggs.'

As a record dealer myself, watching your videos makes me feel better about my own collecting habits. I struggle with what to keep/sell at times. Especially when I buy a sweet collection where I want to keep all the cool stuff that I’m supposed to be making money on. But I guess that’s the perk of this business.
@noblerecords
@noblerecords 3 жыл бұрын
It is a perk. I always am selling things I want to keep, and always still feel like I keep too much, but I also sell out if my collection all the time. I think it’s important to feed that craving to keep yourself passionate about it.

Dillon, didn't mean to sound obnoxious earlier, but Roy Harper is my absolute fave. Recorded at Abbey Road, these EMI albums are incredible! He later teamed up with David Gilmour, who was the one to discover Kate Bush. I digress somewhat. Kate sang on a later Roy albums. Maybe you already know of him? Greetings from Michigan.

I a Realistic Lab 420 turntable, Pioneer analog tuner stereo receiver, Realistic T-120 speakers, Pioneer single well cassette deck, Pioneer RT 909 open reel to reel, as that reel to reel, is the one with adapter to use both 7 1/2 inch and 10 1/2 reels. Around 1978 or 79, I bought Funhouse. Found it in the import section in the Discomat store in Grand Central Station in New York. It was out of print in the US and only available as a UK import. Never any of it heard it before that, but heard that it was supposed to be good and I took a chance. It completely changed the direction my music listening went into. Before that I was listening to typical 70's teen age stuff, like Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd, and liked it, but it didn't really do anything for me, but with Funhouse and the Clash's first album, those changed everything and I never went back to my old taste. It didn't take more than 5 seconds into "Down In The Streets" and I knew I found my sound, LOL. The Clash I also bought at that Discomat, which was a damned good record store. It was also import only, because that record wasn't released in the US for a long time. It was in the import bin for only $3.99, which was cheap for an import, (Funhouse was $5.99, which was a ton of money for me in 1978) and it didn't even have shrink wrap. I know you like Led Zep, but for me there was no going back to them after hearing Funhouse and the Clash.

I know this is gonna sound corny but I found Two of my Holy Grail's not too long ago (one on eBay and the other from this site from Germany, I'm actually still waiting on that one to get here in the mail). They're both the 7 inch 45's, one's by Jack Rainwater - White Sox Blues #2 and the other is A.C. & The Kentucky Fox Band Play With Fire/Music Man. The reason why I list those is because my dad played guitar on those records and sadly he just passed away back in January from pancreatic cancer, so I'm on a mission to get the other singles of The Kentucky Fox Band stuff. I joined discogs a few months too late cause they actually had one on there back in October. These might take me years before I see them, I guess these are my Might Baby!

I love your taste, your comments on The Byrds "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" were on point. You mentioned a record on the Harvest label which made me think of Wire's banging first LP "Pink Flag". I was wondering what you think of Wire's first 3 LP's. Many consider it punk but it's not. Also I know you are hip to Peter Green and his work with John Mayall. Which of the Mayall Clapton, Green and Mick Taylor LP's do you favor? Love your taste, man. I’m sure you’ve heard many of these before, but if you haven’t definitely seek out these psychedelic folk gems. I only have reissues, but man they are sweet: Linda Perhacs, Parallelograms; Gary Higgins, Red Hash; Perry Leopold, Experiments in Metaphysics; Jim Sullivan, U.F.O.; Ultimate Spinach, Behold & See (more psych than folk); Bob Desper, New Sounds; Randy Denison, Randy Denison’s Collage; F.J. McMahon, Spirit of the Golden Juice; Bobby Brown, The Enlightening Beam of Axonda (wild and weird - dude built his own instrument); Dave Bixby, Ode to Quetzalcoatl; Kenny Knight, Crossroads; Philip Lewin, Am I Really Here All Alone?; and Jimmie Spheeris, Isle of View. Keep sharing your amazing finds. One of these days I’m taking a road trip from NJ to dig through your crates!

Nice! I figured you’d have some of those slabs. It’s the melancholy ones that really get me. Have a great weekend Dillon.

@@noblerecords I like you dude. And I've seen your good taste with other albums. But that Odin album was the opposite of what I like. It was terrible to me. I never liked Cream, and it sounded like my worst Cream nightmare times 10.

Does anyone have any recommendations on bands to listen to? I watch these videos and most of the bands I’ve never heard of before. The kind of music I like is the Beatles, Pink Floyd, queen, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and ad/dc. Basically the popular ones lol

Got a question for ya, I’ve been bagging up my collection, why do you keep the records outside of the sleeves in the bags? I’m worried that it’ll bend if I do that, do you have something in there to act as a sort of splint? Or does the sleeve itself provide enough structure so that the vinyl doesn’t bend?
@noblerecords
@noblerecords 3 жыл бұрын
Well, the sleeve is tight enough to keep them together

Would love that Mouzakis record. That's actually my Daughter's mom's family name. They pronounce it Moo-ZAH-kis, not Moo-ZAY-kis but I am not sure how the band pronounces it.
