푸르다 can be both green (like grass) and blue (like the sky). 녹색 is used widely with 녹차 (green tea). There are many more craziness with colors. ㅎ irregulars are the colors and also 그렇다, one of the most important Korean word.

Good timing, im currently trying to learn the colors. I've also seen 블랙 and 화이트 for black and white, are those used often ?

I actually explain that question in the full live stream, but not in this abridged version I think. In this abridged version I explain that 핑크 and such colors are just from English, so you might use them for product descriptions (like buying a new 화이트 edition keyboard) or for K-pop band names.

Hey Billy, what about 검은색? This was the first black I learned, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone use it. People seem to use the other two much more commonly, at least in my area. How is this one used compared to the other, apparently more common, two?

That comes from the descriptive verb 검다 :) It's actually more "proper" than 검정색 (though slightly less common), and has the same meaning.

I also learned black as 검은색 and 까만색 when I was a kid. I didn’t hear 검정색 until I started learning as an adult.

@@fransmith3255 I think all 3 are used commonly. 검은 rolls off the tongue so much easier than 검정 so personally I’ve never said 검정. 까만 has the harsh ㄲ with open ㅏ sound so if you want to emphasize that something is really black, you can be like 까~만 고양이 to say a really black cat. I think!

Hi Billy! Fantastic video and stream :D I had a quick question, how do you recommend practicing pronounciation? I live in the Netherlands, and pretty much NO ONE here knows Korean, so I don't really have anyone to talk to. It also feels kinda weird to just talk to myself? If I'm doing that I still don't know if I'm saying everything correctly. Do you have any tips for this?

한국 지폐가 지금 모양으로 바뀐지 얼마 안 되었을 때 천원(blue)과 만원(green)이 다 파란색이라며 헷갈려 하시는 어르신들이 많았던 기억이 납니다. 이는 Green을 “초록색” 뿐만 아니라 “파란색”으로도 부르는 언어습관이 영향을 미쳤겠죠. 언어가 생각을 지배한다는 말이 떠오르는 경험이었습니다.

You can use it when you understand what they say, but you think it is a nonsense, so you think they are insane. In this context, "무슨 말입니까" means "Do you even know what you are saying?"

무슨 말입니까? when translated into english is “what do you mean?” And 이해가 안 됩니다 in english is “I dont understand.” Both sentence are in a formal form. Hope it helped.

@@류민-i9f ty!! with 무슨 말입니까, Does this mean you don't understand the words they are saying, or hypothetically if they ask you a question, and you're not sure what they're getting at? or both?

@ferfykins 무슨 말입니까 is more a rhetoric question. Like when your friend says something scandalous or weird and you go "what are you _saying_??" It's more a you heard them just fine, you just can't believe they're saying that type of deal.

In English, we often use basic colors to describe people: black, white, red, yellow, and brown. Perhaps this is a whole 'nother video, but does this translate the same in Korean? 🤔

Yes, there are terms like that in Korean too, but they're not going to match 1:1 with English.
