I think your point about not needing to translate the sentence into something that sounds natural in English is so important! If you understand the meaning when you hear it, then boom you've got it!

I wish more platforms presented language like that. I was taught odd English translations for Polish expressions and it made it so much easier because I could think through a sentence in a way it would be easy to put into Polish, versus trying to take the literal words, think about their meaning, then translating that.
