Learn Korean with GO! Billy Korean

처 is a syllable that can be added before action verbs and makes their meaning stronger - like a slang word. Note that these words should never be used in any polite speech.

When I was younger, if my mother had to keep telling me to eat at the table but I was constantly giggling and goofing off, she would lose it and sometimes (often) use this word: 야! 까불지말고 합 처무라!! (경상도 사투리) In my head, I would translate it something like, "Stop playing around and friggin' eat already!!"

Yeah especially the 무라 part is definitely dialect :D

lessons like these are really interesting, keep them coming! could you also maybe incorporate more example sentences when you introduce new words instead of just translating it into english? especially with something like this, where the feeling of the word is the main point, i think it would be more helpful if you could show off that feeling by saying a sentence with it. thank you for all the work you do billy! :)

I just wished if we're talking about a kind of advanced construct in language and its usage, we could understand how this prefix came to be or what it by itself could have implied etymologically. After all, being advanced in a language means getting to word-play, form fun portmanteau words or puns.

I wasn't able to find anything like that. There's a lot when it comes to Korean word origins that is simply unknown.

Re-watching. This was helpful. Also I'd love more in-depth explanations of the more abstract concepts, like in the Abridged Class published on 1/20/21. (The fact that/the story that, ect) That episode fully broke my brain, but I also know being outside my comfort zone is the only way I'll improve. Anyway, thanks again.

Ooh nice I heard someone using this in hometown cha cha cha and was wondering about it, it was a divorced couple arguing during dinner with their son.

Hahaha this is similar to how I view the “네“ particle. I see it basically as the Korean equivalent to Owen Wilson’s “wow!” 😂😂

처 잡수시다 sounds wierd but can be used for sarcasm (잡수시다 is a politer form of 먹다)

[Sorry long comment] Advanced may be a bit over my paygrade. But I would absolutely love more intermediate content, particularly situation-based topics like, what kind of phrases/conversations/grammar forms you'd use with a realtor while apartment hunting, or what to say in a job interview, opening a checking account. The kind of things that are essential day-to-day but are never covered in K dramas OR in a textbook. Also more nuanced things like Korean humor vs American humor. I was falsely told as a beginer they don't do sarcasm but that's dead wrong. I hear it quite often. Maybe if you want to bust some myths like that, that would be soooo helpful. [TLDR: Things that it wouldn't occur to most Korean teachers to go over in class or put in a textbook. Thank you.]

You didn't say it but I inferred that this form might be used with very casual imperatives,. 예를 들어서 "우리 빨리 가기 위해 처입어라!" "So we can leave fast just throw something on." 맞죠?
@GoBillyKorean
@GoBillyKorean Жыл бұрын
Sure! It can also be used with commands.

If you use the sentence to your Korean wife, she would get really mad and you will be in trouble. It is not just close to 'swear word', it is actually 'swear word'. So if you say to your wife "우리 빨리빨리 가기 위해 처입어라", you will "처맞을거야"
@GoBillyKorean
@GoBillyKorean Жыл бұрын
@@suda-nz If you used it to someone like that, they would get mad at you because it sounds too strong (you're essentially talking down to them). However it is not a swear word in the sense that it's automatically offensive.
