We completed Fins N Things a week ago in a stock 2019 JL Sahara. No diff lockers and no lift kit with regular street tires. We went with our Jeep Club and had excellent spotting and guidance. The weather was in the 20s but there was no snow or ice on the trail. We did take it easy and used several bypasses, but in the end it was fun and safe with no damage to our rig or egos! If you want to do the trail with a stock Jeep and you have good spotters and moderate levels of experience and confidence then this trail will be a blast!

I really appreciate that… I try my best to make these useful. Usually I’m in 4WD low on harder moderate to difficult trails and use lockers only when absolutely necessary to protect the vehicle and trail. I’ll keep reminding myself to include this info. Thanks for watching!

Hitting Fins & Things next week in a 2.5” lifted 2 door JK. With open diffs I was feeling a bit nervous. Your video gives me lots of confidence! I’m running 33s with an air pump to air down. That white Jeep looks exactly like mine. On 11-30-2020 I ordered my first ever Jeep after being predominantly a Toyota Tacoma guy for off roading, for decades. I ordered a brand new 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. It arrived at my dealership on 02-12-2021 and I bought it on 03-01-2021. So far I totally love it and plan on doing a lot of off roading in it. I grew up in San Diego and off roaded my entire life either out there, in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas or Nevada. I now live in rural, Northeast Colorado and can’t wait to go out exploring out here and in Utah too. Thanks for the video! I enjoyed watching it.

Great video! I was in Moab in Feb 2022 with my 2012 JKU with 3" lift, 35s, and lockers. I had no problems whatsoever. My wife and I are going back out in Sep 2022 with her 2020 Jeep Rubicon Recon that is still stock. We will put skid plates on it before, but rest will still be stock. Thank you for this video so I could watch a stock 2020 JLU do Fins and Things! (My wife does NOT want her jeep damaged...yet.)

Thank you! Honestly, I want to redo the guides with a 2 door, 4 door, 4Runner/Cherokee, full size truck Renegade… but it’s tough even though I have friends with all those. Maybe if this was a full time job, but right now I just make videos when I’m not working. Anyway, appreciate the comment and I do try to get multiple vehicles in these (been tough this year as I’m in GJ and my buddies are all on the front range). Thanks for watching!

I liked how you showed different vehicles concurrently doing the same obstacle. And, thanks again for stock (or close to it) guides. Last time I was in Moab we did Baby Lion's Back and Chicken Corners because videos of other runs were mainly tricked out vehicles. Fortunately, we did do a "difficult" trail (Tower Arch trail) but only because I didn't bother researching it ahead of time.

Ran Fins and Things yesterday for the first time. Wish I’d seen this video beforehand! It would be great for videos like this if you showed someone running each of the alternatives. We didn’t take all of harder alternatives, but the ones we did were quite manageable. Would have done them all if we had more knowledge (and experience). Watched 3 vehicles do “send it” from your video. I would say all stayed on it. A Gladiator did it with crawl control on and walked right up. One guy sent it pretty hard and his front wheels almost came off the rock - he clearly scared himself as he slowed right down, but still made it. They made several attempts for the first two, but the third guy, who may have been the most experienced and clearly had the benefit of watching the others, made it in one shot. Great trail and well worth it for anyone who wants to have some fun in a Jeep!

@3:16 Are you sure about that ~55 degree incline? That is seriously close to the estimated pitchover angle. Plus, the person standing there doesn't make it look like it is an angle well over 45 degrees. But beyond that, what an awesome video!

That was probably a typo… it was so long since I edited this. Actually I just looked at it. That’s the wall. I got that info from another resource. It’s steeper than it looks on video, but it probably has one spot where you are close to 55 somewhere on there or the resource I used was wrong. Thanks!

So you asked for feedback, and here it is. VERY GOOD STUFF!!! I'm not a pro, but the only thing I would suggest and again, it's my opinion: 1. Lessen the typed comments. for me I like to focus on the action. My eye taking focus back and forth from the footage to the comments is a little distracting. You seem to have a great speaking voice. Try to just overlay your comments (voiceover) in each section along with the music and I think it would flow nicely. 2. I'm hooked on handheld gimbals for your phone or cameras. So suggestion, is use a gimbal with the camera on 60fps for that buttery smooth motion. Add an extension pole and create a crane effect, especially useful on those shots where you're on the side of the jeeps and coming up or down the rocks. Your so lucky to be so close to all of the great wheeling areas. I dream of being out there regularly and hope to do so this year. 3. Don't change anything with the interviews. Great job with the closing of the video along with showing the stats on the jeeps. And add to that, the details you provided was good material. I'm a fan now and hitting the subscribe button right now. Lol. Last year I traveled across country from Georgia to Colorado on my BMW R1200GSAdventure to run the passes and see the sights. I completed the Alpine loop and part of the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route, and for as much fun as I had, I just couldn't help but wish I had my jeep so I could have done more. So, Colorado here I come in 2021. 2018 JLUR, 5"lift, 37"MTR's.... C U Soon.

Thanks so much for the awesome feedback! I should maybe bring the rider rig interviews back into the videos... now it’s just small text boxes showing a quick breakdown of their rig. However, my idea is to do like a greatest hits video for each rig in the winter using clips from the summer as they tell us what they’ve done. Might do a test run with Sean’s KL as we filmed a walk around the other day. Thanks for watching and subbing! Means a lot!

I've been out there on that trail in my 12 Rubicon 2 door and also with my 2 door Razor. I went back to 2 door jeep as it is my toad for the MH and is lighter to tow, but now wish I had the 4 door version. The 2 door benefits are tighter turns for narrow trails, but the 4 door gives a smoother rides. cargo room. My main reason for wanting the 4 door is I tow my fishing boat, which is an 18 ft aluminum boat,and the longer wheel base of the 4 door would make it easier to tow. As you noticed above that my Razor is also 2 door, and most of my trail riding is in tight conditions and I like the turning radius a 2 door offers.

Took my F250 to Colorado in August and decided next year I'm gonna go back and go from Colorado down to Moab. Not gonna do any major trails, but definitely wanna do Fins and Things and Dome Plateau. I know it's not the best rig for this sort of stuff, but did real well in Colorado, well except on some switchbacks that were a pain because of the turning radius lol.

Thank you! I believe off-roading is more about the driver than vehicle so I absolutely believe a gladiator could do most of these trails. In fact, I wanted one myself, but I decided to replace the JK with a JL and add a Jeep liberty instead. The liberty is going to be a minimalistic build so I’m hoping it’ll show people you don’t need much to go adventuring. Thanks for watching!

One of my favorite runs. Do it often. I about choked when you asked if a guy was aired down and he said "yeah, down to 23." Did I hear that right? Gotta say looking at the tire contact throughout the video you all looked like you were running too high. I run 10psi when I'm not concerned and 8psi if it gets serious. For Fins & Things lowest pressures aren't needed. But for those vehicles that were just burning rubber and not going anywhere, yeah. Lockers are overrated for sandstone and may sometimes hurt. They're great on uneven terrain where one or two tires get light, but sandstone you usually have four tires in good contact. Lockers now will just make tires fight each other forcing some to slightly slip and that hurts ultimate traction.
@coloradomallcrawlers
@coloradomallcrawlers 6 ай бұрын
It’s a good one! Being aired up has never decreased my enjoyment of a trail. I’ve been wheeling for over twenty years and this is what I was taught and it works. Air down for sand, snow, mud, wet rocks, and any obstacles that you need more traction for. I always have the ability to air down when I’m wheeling. I fortunately don’t need to air down for comfort except it is nice on washboard roads. Some tires lose their puncture resistance when aired down. Tire science is actually quite fascinating. Lockers depend on your vehicle. My TJ needs lockers to do some of the stuff my JL can do on slick rock with just its off-road traction control. But for many, lockers are one of the best investments in a build.

That was a fun trail to run! Can't wait to go back this summer! Some of those bits didn't look familiar, but there are quite a few alt routes, and it was our first time so we were just kinda taking whatever looked funnest. Impressive to get that trail under 20 minutes...i had to do 2 parts because we spend like 3 hours on the trail stopping and picture/video'ing waay too much! (but its soo beautiful!) Thoughts on the video: I'm still missing the last line or two of half the pop-up texts, more so when you have the 3-way split of Jeeps screen AND a pop-up text! (have to decide what to look at, text or Jeeps doing the obstacles) (maybe try some voice over in place of, or supplementing, the text in some places?) Voice-over volume could maybe be a touch higher. Interview volumes definitely too quiet. (what are you using to capture those?) For wind noise and easy cheap 'fix' would be a thin piece of tape over the mic hole. or use your body or a vehicle as a shield to slow the wind down.

Thanks for watching and the tips! Yea, I originally had 1hr and 6mins in the timeline from I don’t know how much overall footage.... this was a rough one to edit. I was going to narrate it instead of text but it was taking too long so I added text late. I’m going to play around with narration in the next few videos. I’m doing something completely new to me, editing on a $250 basic iPad using lumafusion. I listened to it on earphones and watched it on the iPad in LumaFusion before publishing it. I couldn’t figure out how to increase Riley’s volume while using a high pass filter (it was unusable otherwise), but it was audible at just over 1/2 volume. But, you’re right, I need to figure the audio out. I might reach out to LumaFusion as I think I’d rather buy an iPad Pro over a new MacBook Pro or PC. I’m going to try to dig into some LumaFusion tutorials this weekend.

I have a fancy piece of paper that says i know a thing or two about audio. So that is naturally one of the things i notice more than most. Look into using a compressor to help boost the leftover audio after the EQ filters out the wind. I use compressors on many of my audio tracks, it helps make the quiet stuff louder while keeping the already loud stuff from being too loud. You could even play with the EQ and use a couple notch filters to grab some of the especially annoying frequencies while still keeping most of the speaking. Trouble with wind is it is a lot of 'white noise'. But filtering out below 100, and above 5k (most human speech lives in that range) will help with the extra clutter. I'm not familiar with that app, or anything apple...other than their use as boat anchors. :P

Now, I’m a bit weird with my airing down and don’t air down on many trails, but I usually will in Moab trails like this even if it’s not needed. Slick rock is really gripping, but if you by some chance take a line wrong, I feel better being aired down here. Have a blast!

@@coloradomallcrawlers how did you figure out how far you could air down with-ought beads? I feel like it would open me up to so many more options if I could get just a little more grip

@@Project_Keeper_Motorsports when I was a new off-roader, I wheeled with more experienced and soaked up all the knowledge I could from them. Then I joined MidSouth Jeeps in Memphis and learned a ton more. Read a few books on off-road theory too. So basically, find some people to wheel with that know more than you. Anyway, I will go to 25-20 with non-beadlocks, but some will go lower. I only needed it on Wheeler Lake with bald tires. I’ll do 30-25 to soften the ride on washboard prone trails.

Thanks for watching! Yea, I’ve debated getting a class B RV and towing the Jeep for a while now (my job can send me to Grand Junction, Phippsburg, or Pueblo on a whim). I’ll check out your channel!

The Art of RVing oh cool! Might be able to do the 8p one, but right now I’m doing two jobs. I’m on call on the weekends (this is my original long term job who cut my hours during the pandemic), and I started a new job regularly M-F. I guess the RV thing depends on if I stay with my original job... the new job is stable and would keep me based in Denver. We’ll see! Got some of your videos in my que for today!

The Art of RVing we’ll I’m treating KZbin as a job too so maybe 3, 😂. It’s not by choice tho, I loved my original job, but the company is set on getting rid of its workforce. This new job doesn’t pay well, but there’s an opportunity to make a difference so maybe. Well, looking forward to watching your videos later today!
