Found 1 at my local gun shop, a 1978 MK III .357 Trooper-- happy to say I put it on layaway

Wow. I remember this voice of a guy with a brother with whom I worked at the Midway store in LP a long, long time ago in one of my first law enforcement related jobs. Good to see you seem to be doing well.

Really good video. I just got a great deal on a near mint 1975 nickel 6” Trooper MkIII from a buddy. I love it. Great video. These things are works of art.

Very Nice Revolver! the frames changed between the Original Trooper and the MarkIII 1969 then the Mark V got a smaller grip frame. This is my favorite Trooper of All but recently acquired a 1927 Officer's Model Match wich is in 38 special and have a Python to go with it. Younger people haven't yet for the most part discovered the Great American Revolvers from the 20th century, wait till they realize what they have been missing!

The mk5 was the base for the king cobra and the anaconda with similar internals and had a vent rib

Great video on the Trooper MKIII, mine was made back in 1970, Trooper MKIII was built on Colt’s J frame, and had totally different lock work the previous Colt revolvers . From what I’ve learned the MKIII’s have a square butt, the Detective Special came with a square or round butt .

I could relate. Life gets in the way as they say. I'm the same. After I got married with a growing family I hadn't touched my guns / visited the range for at least 20 + years. Until now after my kids have grown up ;))

All of the MK III series J frame had the same target grips. The early ones have the square bottom. I think around 77 they stared beveling the bottom for the pinky for people with smaller hands. Good video.

I saw this revolver held by the weasels in who framed Roger rabbit, I thought it looked badass.

Historical tidbit: the new trooper coincided with the debut of the MK IV government model in early '83. To avoid confusion Colt dubbed the vented rib revolver MK V in sequential order!

Kent - nice gun! Those MK IIIs sure have tall front sights, though. Is there anything special somebody needs to know about the way Colt sighted those in... like sight picture? Adjusting that rear sight to bring he muzzle level? That sort of thing? Thanks.

I bought my mk3 in 1983 paid 210.00 for a 8 inch 357 still have it

I inherited the same model 38 with the 4 inch barrel....But the owner before me had the cylinder drilled out so it accepts 357 magnum loads....It doesn't matter to me if the drilling decreases the value cause I'm keeping it forever anyways....😅

Mine is in a Bianchi #5BHL Thumb Snap. Says it's for a Smith but my nickel plated Colt Trooper III 4 inch barrel has been in it years... Bought them both at the same time. Served me well and is very comfortable to wear. It's been my side arm on many deer and hog hunts. They're still available out there...
