I totally agree with changing all of the glow plugs and using anti-seize paste, which is very rarely spoke about on the mechanic side of things. So hats off to you. You mentioned what videos would I like to see and I think a EGR deletion with a full decarbonisation of the air intake and turbo.

Good thing I found this, buying a mk4 TDI that needs plugs and they're already included with the car so at least this be an easy job provided I don't break anything

What if you start the car without the wiring harness? would it cause any damage
@ColtonsGarage3 жыл бұрын
If by wiring harness you mean the circuit that runs the glow plugs the the short answer is theoretically no. Unlike a gasoline engine that uses a spark plug to ignite the fuel/air mixture and create combustion in each cylinder, a diesel engine creates combustion by compressing the fuel/air mixture to the point that it ignites. The glow plugs are only used to assist starting that engine when it is cold. So, if the engine is warm enough to create a combustion the glow plugs won't even turn on. This is part of the reason why "runaway diesels" sometimes occur. Without the need of a spark plug to keep the engine running the diesel relies on a fuel source. "Runaway diesels" usually occur when a turbo fails and begins leaking oil into the combustion chamber of the engine, so even though you may be trying to turn it off with a key and cut fuel, the oil draining from the turbo is still feeding the engine causing it to "runaway" The part that I can't answer for sure is what other components run in the same circuit as the glow plugs. I believe they run in their own circuit but I am not certain. I don't think any damage would be caused, but you may run into other issues where other components may not work if that's not the case. It is a Volkswagen. They do weird stuff.

How much does it cost to get it fixed from a garage roughly?
@ColtonsGarage3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the labor rate in your area. Typically they range from $80-$125 per hour, a dealership may charge $200 per hour. I'd imagine they would charge you around 1.5 hours of labor plus parts.
