To the announcers: Emergency trauma medicine is a whole different animal than standard medical care. That's why they were calling for the people that are specialized in handling those kinds of situations even though they have a team doctor. Not to mention if it had been a serious life threatening situation you need the EMTs to bring a stretcher and prep the patient for transport and everything else.

Always like to see the other team demonstrating concern when somebody is injured. The other bench were all looking over instead of just killing time, and a few watched from the ice. The officials also reacted, the lead ref following to ensure the game flow stayed clear while the other helped Kuraly clear the ice, and they didn't debate stopping play when called on. Glad for the reports all tests came back negative at the hospital and they just did a catch and release.

It would be nice for the people calling the game to not publicly criticize the man appearing to be walking across the ice slowly-he wasnt wearing skates. Also, its not his fault he wasnt on the other side of the ice when he was needed. Where are all the medical staff to begin with? Sounds like it was a case of bad circumstance and/or poor planning. Interesting to compare the coverage of the home and away feeds. The Columbus people knew that even though the trauma team was positioned to come on the ice that they were being instructed to go around and did so even as one person chose to go across the ice. And obviously there was a doctor near the bench. For a Canadian broadcaster to assume there wasn't is really embarrassing and shows how lazy and uniformed most "journalists" are. Sure they may not know all the particulars as the visiting team but they should know that the player was not on the bench, had gone town the tunnel and was in the care of doctors and medics no matter what the stretcher crew was doing. They did in fact go around internally. The Columbus broadcasters announced that Kuraly was OK which is not likely accurate. Again, sloppy journalism even if this is what the team was announcing. If he was taken to a hospital for abdominal injuries or suspicions he was by no means OK yet. If he had had a lacerated liver, for example, he would have been in a life-threatening situation even if conscious and alert and downplaying things.

I hope the ref is spoken too by the league quality assurance team. The player tells you it’s bad - porotect the players safety ABOVE the continued play. Safety first.
