I’m actually almost done with this process! I had my locs for 3.5 years and as of today have 23 sisterlocks left! Good luck to you! It’s so difficult especially if you don’t have any help like I did. I used an awl pick along with a flea comb depending on the loc. I also used blue magic on top of conditioner for added slip and I cut half the length off of most of my locs. After combing out the entire length of some locs without cutting, I learned that I never kept the entire length anyways and cutting halfway maximized my length retention while cutting down time. Again good luck! It will be hard and you’ll want to give up a lot but it’s amazing when you start to see the other side. :)

Congrats!!! That’s the same strategy I used when combing out my traditional locs. Cutting them in half saved time and most of the other length would have but cut off anyway.

@@Ang.143 Yeah, it’s so effective! Btw, how’d you feel once you finished combing them out? Was it an adjustment? I see so many people who comb out their locs go and get them again a few months later but I honestly can’t do that to myself after how long this has taken haha.

@@gardenflower620 lol well I have experience with my natural hair so I already knew what to do. I was natural for 6 years and had my locs for 10. I now have micro locs… just got them installed a couple weeks ago. 🤣

Try warm water with oil make sure loc is wet it makes hair more slippery and loosens up loc. please don’t use comb on dry hair you’ll definitely break your fine hairs. Good luck

I wonder if steam may help with the hair retention and the takedown process. I would use steam but I don't have the proper tools. I was shocked to see how your locs would slide out like that in part one. As I take down my microlocs I noticed when I use a detangler and water my hair snaps easier and I'm losing more hair, versus when I do it on dry hair. My hands become slippery and tired out faster too using products. However, everyone's hair is different. Girl we both taking our locs out at the same time I got 5 little twists in the back I hope I get it done in like 3-4 months. I wonder if hair porosity take places in all of this too.

Hmmmm, I might have to try the steam suggestion out! And yes plain water seems to be doing the best for me right now. And I truly believe different methods apply based on hair texture and porosity. Thanks for the helpful feedback and I hope your takedown goes well!

@Tranquilbutterfly28, how's your journey going?
@Tranquilbutterfly2810 ай бұрын
Girl I lost patience and shaved it all off. I had a bunch of new growth, so I had a mini Afro to work with. Since I had a bad case of postpartum shedding and damage from dying in the last couple of years I was okay with shaving it off. It was more emotionally difficult than anything because I had miclocs for 20 years. I did all sorts of haircuts and color (once they were mature). Biggest lesson is "hair is hair". I definitely want micro locs again. I want to get certified at this point. How did you go about certification?
