My husband and I both worked at the airport in St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland and we had the same scene as at Gander. Only as being a bigger city, we had the professionals needed to accomodate all peoples, requests, etc. Gander didn't but with the help of surrounding communities, pulled off an amazing feat. The airport in St. John's was in the middle of renovations and my husband and I did not see each other for 6 full days, account our shifts and working around the clock. I came home one day and my husband (a very funny man) had left me a note "Hey I'm the guy who shares your bed...do you think we can get together for a coffee". The laugh was very much needed.

Same! It brings me to tears when they are naming places people were when finding out about 911… i was literally in history class in 8th grade…. Then had to be shuffled to cafeteria and we all had to put our heads down with lights off (because they didnt know if terrorists would attack schools). We watched a single TV wheeled in from the school library and just stared i. Confusion and disbelief as our teachers were openly weeping.

Thanking people for telling the story about an incredible, beautiful act of kindness, brotherhood, and humanity that your home territory did for so many people, might be the most Canadian thing I've ever heard. Thank YOU and your whole country. My pastor when I was a child was one of the "come from aways" and he spent the rest of his life talking about his experience. (He wasn't in Gander, he was in Hair Bay?) He said nothing proved his faith in God like the way those people treated all of them. He said there's a line in the Lord's Prayer that says, "On Earth as it is in Heaven." And in our country's darkest hour, God made that line true. I can't think of a more beautiful tribute to a people or place than that

Big fan of their choice not to sing their opening number, especially because it's such an easy way to establish the concept of the show (and that's the one they always perform). Because while Welcome to the Rock is brilliant everytime it's performed, it's interesting to see them establish their show with a variety of ways. They did a really good job of picking their set list here.

As a proud Canadian, I heard this story earlier than most Americans. The people of Newfoundland showed the world how to respond to hate in times of distress. They opened their hearts to those who were scared, confused and lost and welcomed them not only into their community's but, also into their families. I am so thankful that this story has been immortalized by the Broadway industry, and I hope all who see this production will take away the lesson that Gander gave to the world during those dark days.

We saw the production in Cincinnati. It's hard to put into words, but being in the theater for Come From Away, was the closest I've been to 9/11/01 since that morning in my dorm room watching the live coverage. This show brought back all those emotions associated with life lost, irrational paranoia, and community building in the after-math of the tragedy. Tissues (many of them) were required. Thank you for this cast and crew, and their performance. -Jeff & Kristen

I saw this in Cincinnati too. It still gives me chills and those raw emotions come flooding back. This is a perfect example of how September 12th was. I remember going to a candle light vigil and people you never met before just crying and hugging. I don't want another September 11th but I do want another September 12th.

I wasn't looking for a musical, but this immediately brought me back to working at a call center in Oregon and not knowing why we weren't getting lit up by calls from the East Coast for the first 3 hours of business, only to be told about that something significant was happening in New York, and then seeing the footage of the first plane hitting one of the towers, and then the live footage of the second strike and fall of the Twins. I cried then, and this made me tear up unexpectedly...hard to believe we're almost 20 years away from that horrible day.

My musical theatre school did "me and the sky" as part of our production. None of the girls who sang or did the choreography were born on 9/11, most of us weren't, but every rehearsal and show there'd be like, five of us who would sneak into the wings and listen... we all cried. At least once, and for sissies like me, I cried every time. Not many of us know how it feels to lose someone. But we all know how it felt to have something we loved taken from us. That's why this musical is so affecting - even if you're 15, and you live on the other side of the world.

During 9/11, my mom had to switch my sisters from Gander Academy to a different school because they moved. My mom didn't realize that the school was being used as a shelter and walked right in, was mistaken for a volunteer, and came face to face with an impressively tall guy who didn't speak a lick of english. A few years later she had to register me for school at gander academy and she said she was too embarassed to go in the building in case they recognized her as the lady who just walked right into the school with her children 😂

The show, the story, just remarkable. The emotion the performers exhibit, even here, is remarkable. More remarkable is that they only have 12 actors but they each play 2-3 roles and switch between accents like nothing. These people (and Jenn Colella who was not part of this recording) deserve every accolade they receive, as do the creators and the director. I was able to see the show, with Jenn Colella as the female lead (the solo for Me and the Sky) on Broadway in New York and felt it was worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY I spent to get there and get in the theater.
