Yeah, at his point it's silly to say "well, i don't know what he really had in his mind", as if we can't infer state of mind from actions taken. Trump obviously wants a mayhem to take advantage of. Did he really thought people would storm the building? Did he ever thought of it as a coup or insurrection? Does it matter when all of his actions line up perfectly to his advantage?

Mike Pence deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He should have got it DAY ONE of Biden's presidency for the single greatest act a Vice President has ever made, certifying the election in 2021, under duress and pressure from his own President not to. It is shameful Biden hasn't given him an award. (Edit: Biden got one from Obama. Pence is more deserving. Anyone should recognize that.

Presidents should NOT have criminal liability. If we vote in a president that conducts themselves in a criminal matter, they should face justice. However, in the case of the immunity ruling, Roberts takes the idea of civil immunity and then immediately says the president should have ABSOLUTE immunity. WTF IS THAT?!?! It is qualified criminal immunity - "from criminal charges for their official 'core constitutional' acts but not unofficial acts." @@adtastic1533 The first hurdle for genocide was passed before the ICJ earlier this year. Destiny doesn’t claim to be a historian. Finkelstein does.
@vegapunkrecords
@vegapunkrecords 3 сағат бұрын
There was a WHOLE arc during the Israel trip when he talked to historians on both sides of the conflict where he realized that being able to read the historical documents in its original language generates insights about the mindset of the people at the time that is lost in cultural translation. He’s saying that here because he learned that lesson and realizes how important language is in historical analysis. Therefore, if you claim to be a historical authority, the least you should expect is to be able to actually read the stuff. The reason that he is willing to debate is because he is NOT claiming to be a historical authority. He is simply synthesizing and explaining the perspectives of the historians that he HAS talked to / read. He does not claim to be a historian. He claims to be a debater and a rhetorician. He has repeatedly stressed this point - that he’s NOT an authority, and has only read on the topic for a year. It’s just that the people he debates are either LESS informed on the topic, or extraordinarily ideological about it.

Still, both in the program with Comedy Cellar and in the stream with Destiny, those who easily make fun of Norman in echo chambers definitely didn’t show the same performance in front of him. Or at least it seems that way to me. Polarization has already become very sharp on this issue. These conversations don't seem to contribute to changing minds.

Him compiling a 20,000 word document trawling through hundreds of pages of summary judgement documents, video exhibits, and internal White House memos (all live and recorded btw), and coming to the conclusion that the evidence supports a certain criminal mindset alleged in the indictment. That’s an example of “extremely facile common sense”??? How about the fact that his analysis of the immunity case was due to reading the Court’s own writing in Nixon v Fitzgerald about not extending civil leeway to criminal cases? How about the 5 hour discussion he had with 3 lawyers about the minute details about how part 2C of Eastman’s memo would cause a constitutional crisis since it wasn’t clear how it affected the process laid out in the constitution? How about the interview with Shlomo Ben-Ami talking about Arafat’s mindset at Camp David, and what the negotiating pressure looked like from the Palestinian side? What part of any of that is facile or common sense?

You know what we hate Destiny? The Hubris of a terminally online cideo game playing debate bro, to flippantky dismiss Norm Finklesteins scholarship. He is ornary, arragant at times, and certainly not perfect in every opinion he has, but he is a legitimate scholar, who has dedicated years and years of his life to his craft. You study an issue for 6 months, go on a guided propagana tour of Isreal and the west bank, use online articles, wikipedia and excerpts from books to form your opinions , and then have the tumerity to call Norman a hack. He is known for his scholarship, and its not even questioned by any serious academic. His opinions sure, but you dismiss his actual work, and you dont even read one single book , cover to cover in your research.

Maybe you should read up on the controversies surrounding Finkelstein and on criticisms of him and his work before dismissing the dismissal. This appeal to (non-existent) authority is the intellectual laziness that allowed him to operate all these years - and is usually employed when people can't counter the actual arguments presented.

Finkelstein is a psychopath and a hack who.lives at his Mom's house. The only thing scholarly about him is his ability to cut and paste quotes out of context. One trick pony that's played the same old trick for decades. Go read how he tried to get his Dominican neighbours deported, and turned up on their doorstep with a sledgehammer. Just because he didn't like their baby crying. Total nutcase.

Norman meme’d the whole time on Lex. Steven has every right to completely dismiss him imo. To quote Bennys book back to him instead of just making an argument; to just ignoring Steven having a seat at the table.
