Lack of education brings in a lot of violence. But after some time the educated end up at the top and then the poorly educated try their best to educate their kids to try and catch up. You're absolutely right that we are in an age of unenlightenment. People do not value knowledge, experience, skill, ability, or these other positive qualities that help the world. You're dead wrong about education not leading to skills or any of the other positive things you listed. Education words as advertised. It teaches you many things and you gain knowledge and skills through it. The acquisition of knowledge itself is beneficial to people. Even if you learn something you don't think you will use directly, you're learning how to use your brain and you make it stronger. The gaining of knowledge leads to people becoming better and more logical and more able to make good decisions. I've directly benefited from this in my own life. Education and knowledge has made things so much better for me. Of course, I used it correctly as well. So I can definitely say that you're wrong on this one.

College / university should be just like trade schools, teach undergraduate courses that directly relate to a job. I know philosophy is a traditional university course, but it seems philosophical subjects and the arts are attracting way too many students, getting qualifications that contribute to socially divisive indoctrination or are just plain unemployable. Science, Maths, Languages, Business, Teaching, Computers, Engineering - that's what college / uni should be about.

I know full well why so many people look down upon rich kids going to college and thinking they know better than anyone else. Still, dismissing proper high knowledge is very bad. College isn't about a piece of paper, it's about conducting research and learn from others. Hell, I am studying my ass off to get a partial government support because I believe it's worth learning from them. It's not about being smarter, but gaining specialized knowledge about a certain area.

there's never been a period in human history where education and knowledge were respected and praised by the masses. never-not once ever. i know this is true because of our current level of technology. it could be SO much better right now if science, math, and knowledge were treated properly by most humans throughout history. given the rate at which our technology has improved just within the last 10-20 years, i find it hard to believe that we couldn't have reached this point of technological advancement over 300 years ago if we as a species had EVER EVEN ONCE decided that facts and knowledge were important. more important than feelings and beliefs. we STILL don't believe scientific advancement and enlightenment or the improvement of the human race is a good thing. don't believe me? ok-try to find out what we're doing in the field of human genetic manipulation and evolution. what are we doing as a species to biologically improve our physical forms to improve our ability to survive and thrive? praying to God.

Not true, at least, not true for everyone for all time. The 'greatest generation' saw and believed in the value of education; they sent their kids (the baby boom) to college in record numbers, in the belief that in knowledge their children would advance and not make the same mistakes that their own generation did. And for the most part, they were right; the boomers made a lot of DIFFERENT mistakes. But boomers also found that it took a lot of work to change things, so advancement slowed down, and eventually stopped in a lot of areas because they were afraid of all the new thinking. Religions were threatened by the educated, which started a backlash against education.

There are multiple ways in which this Age of Unenlightenment presents itself. One of the more subtler ones that might have flown under people's radars, and which I will therefore now highlight, is the recent rise of the _"I am a simple guy / girl."_ comments on KZbin videos _[and possibly other Social Network places; I'm not sure]_ , specifically the way in which they are presented as if being simple like the comments proclaim is a *good* thing. Of course, most of the time this "simpleness" is being shallow and only clicking on a video due to the maker's looks, or avoiding it because it has Maths or some other type of intellectual content in it. So, once and for all: *NO* , people, being "a simple guy" or "a simple girl" is not actually something to be proud of. Quite the contrary: if you are going to present yourself as simple, there should be a decent level of embarrassment to accompany such things.
@AmmaraSHAH7733775 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing this is an r/woosh plz be an r/woosh because otherwise the irony in not knowing what the simple refers to instead is so 👌 because the whole statement is undermined by you not understanding the example you've chosen its actually funny That's why i think you must be baiting an r/woosh and if so its good but my comment does not categorise as such so don't respond saying the phrase
