@travisbickle1951
@travisbickle1951 Жыл бұрын
@@Buttsac It's not that simple. He was a deeply insecure person deep down and would walk into any opportunity he could have had in Hollyweird with the assumption they would rejection, so he started every meeting off completely standoffish and hostile. He ruined a million chances on his own in a sad self-fullfilling prophecy of "I can't stand rejection, so let me make myself sure to fail and pretend I don't care." He also ate himself to death. I'm really kind of sick of people acting like he was so perfect, or even so perfectly manly. At the end he couldn't even get his dick hard because of his diabetes, which was self-inflicted. There's nothing wrong with liking him, but at least don't make him out to be this larger than life perfect example of who to be or how to act like all these suckers out there who wish they had the balls to talk the way he did, when the only reason he did was because he was insecure.
@travisbickle1951
@travisbickle1951 Жыл бұрын
Maybe, but the underlying reason was he was so insecure that he wanted to attack meeting rooms full of uppity Jewish producers etc., before they could criticize him or ask him to simply negotiate. He was a fake. Low down, in his soul, he felt like one, and always wanted to attack other people first just to avoid having to acknowledge they were smarter or better than him, when honestly in terms of the craft of stand up, many of his contemporaries simply were. He was a neighborhood bully, but not even a real one, he never robbed people or carried a gun, he would just stand on the corner talking shit with the best of them, until a real hard ass came around and made everyone scatter. He was a puffed up nobody who talked a good game. Highly amusing, not ultimately a bad person, but not really that great. Be real, stop kissing the ass of someone who ate himself first into not being able to get a hard-on out of simple weakness and lack of discipline, than death.

Apparently, I saw Elephant in the Room a really long time ago. But I'm just recently discovering him because of Burr. I really slept on this dude. Fucking legend. He lived a good life though. We all can say that it would have been better if Patrice made better decisions. But even his bad choices made him more of an amazing human than most people. And we don't live forever. Even if you're in the gym everyday and you have a personal nutritionist, there's no guarantee you won't be hit by a bus tomorrow. Even if you self censor yourself to make himself more palatable to the masses, there's no guarantee of success, and we shouldn't don't get the Patrice we got. He might have just been another forgettable comedian if he had taken everyone's advice, and wouldn't have been any more successful for it.

Chris and Patrice are both legends. People criticize Chris for sucking up to Hollywood, etc. but Patrice himself tried to go that route in the late 90s to early 2000s. He himself said that he moved to Los Angeles and "tap danced like you wouldn't believe". The only difference is that Chris got the green light while Patrice didn't. If Chris Rock died right after Bring the Pain, Patrice fans would look at him the same way they do Patrice.

Patrice should have had his own show in the 90s. The greedy comedy and talk radio industry really messed up bad. Watching/listening to Patrice interact with other comedians, no script, is pure magic. I think his honesty and ability to spot a bullshitter held him back when it came to fame, and that's sad.

One of the last things I noticed about Gregg was his horrible entitled and spiteful attitude toward success and fame. You would think a talentless narcissist would be thankful to all the people around him, colleagues and guests, that made his career for him. But he actually felt that everyone who did "his" show owed him for the rest of their lives. And he would harbor resentments in the same paranoid place that he devised his narcissistic splitting behaviour. I remember hearing when Amy Schumer blew up in fame Gregg had an underground newsletter where he told his "inner circle" of fans to harass her. People don't really grasp what a weirdo Gregg is. Patrice gently commented on it once, but he had to tip toe around Greggshells and pick his words carefully. I think he compared Gregg to a vengeful mob boss "We did a lot for him, he did a lot for us".

@ninjast4r i always found it weird how he'd complain that people like Jack Black, or Russell Brand wouldnt do their show again. Though they had a sizeable following O&A were never on Howard's level, especially after the XM move, so why would anybody major have any reason to go speak to them? especially when they had such a toxic reputation. I used to wonder what they thought when they walked into the studio and saw Anthony's wacky horn and loud haler. Even though he used them ironically, if you dont know that then it just looks a awful hacky deejay's toolkit.

I know this video is old but I think it's worth noting that it has now been made public....DYOR, that Chris Rock for his "specials" rounded up the likes of CK Louis and Neal Brennan and paid them for writing. Yes, it helped Chris be more famous and make more money than Patrice did but I think it needs to be known that there is no record of anyone writing for Patrice.

Patrice is becoming more than just a comedian for me. He's as savage as they come, and that's all I saw at first, but with a bit of my own thinking about some of the stuff he would say, (mostly to bitches on the phone), and with some great analyses by his mates, he's shaping up as 'something else'. Dead set, straight up fucken legend. He was a deep thinker, which struck me out of the blue listening in to him talking. And wise too, that I mused and dubbed him Choda.

Patrice didn’t accept the cold, hard truth that he has to have a racist, divisive material that takes advantage of today’s political climate to make it in Hollywood. Just look at Chris Rock’s new special. Patrice actually joked about what he believed in, without peddling a political agenda, and without pandering to his audience. The fact that Patrice remained in obscurity while the likes of Chris Rock prosper is a clear indicator, at least to me, that society doesn’t reward honesty and integrity.
@cesareborgia9259

Jonathan Woodruff This has nothing to do with me agreeing/disagreeing with his politics. Jim Jeffries has a bit about gun control that I find absolutely hilarious even though I am right-leaning on that issue. Louis CK has a bit about abortion that I find insanely funny and brilliant, even though I’m also right-leaning on that issue. This is because comedy has to have an element of truth in it and it has to be delivered rationally. You also won’t see me complaining about Dave Chapelle’s stance on the issue of race in America. I am neither white nor black so I don’t have a dog in the race, I just don’t like when political sellouts insult my intelligence. I also know blatant racism disguised as comedy when I see it. Even if you don’t want to take it as far as to call him racist, Chris Rock is a sophist. This is the bottom line.
