Is ice cream man the best current comic? I am not sure...but now I’m struggling to say which would be the best.

I think it's truly unique. The most unique of the really good ones out there. If not the best ONE, what are some of your favs right now?
@thestruggler7776 жыл бұрын
Great video Walt. I’m very interested in reading Ice Cream Man now. I was also not a fan of Heroes In Crisis. The deaths felt extremely cheap. One of my favourite DC characters was killed off, I’m sure it’s not a permanent death though. I thought Rebirth was supposed to bring back the fun and hope to DC Comics. It feels like they’re going back to the New 52.

Yeah, the King books tend to have a very stable amount of depression and hopelessness ;) Need to catch up on Mr Miracle, but I don't expect it to be all too cheery either. That wouldn't even be a problem, if there's be some weight behind it (like in Mr Miracle) but at least the first Ish of HiC made those deaths and also the very xtreme character change for Booster Gold feel kind of not earned. Yet?
@thestruggler7776 жыл бұрын
Walt's Comics and Books Yes, Booster Gold is supposed to be a fun character and I really hate what King is doing with him. Why all the doom and gloom from King. I feel like he uses his writing as a way to work through his mental health issues, which is fine but I’d rather not see that in mainstream superhero comics.

You should read the Bendis Superman-books for a bit more fun and heart

Good reviews as always. Really digging Ice Cream Man. Without your past recommendation, I never would've even heard of it. Worried Immortal Hulk is going the superhero route. We'll see. Totally disagree on Action Comics but glad you enjoyed it.
@WaltsComicBookChannel6 жыл бұрын
I get that you don't like Action? Do you prefer Superman or are you just not happy with Bendis writing on the super-books in general?
@Mangobed7176 жыл бұрын
I haven't read the Superman book. Spoiler alert. 1003 was just filler. Kryptonite is rare and expensive. Goode gets it. Clark reacts. Bad shrimp? She's an investigative journalist? Just a horrible one I guess. Batman takes it. Bats doesn't investigate how and why she had it? But yeah, master detective work there. Why is Lois here? Where is Jon? Why does Lex know she is back but Supes doesn't? I know, I know, it's a slow burn. But writers can't just keep building and building. There has to be a give and take for a good story. What are the characters motivations? I can't even figure out which character I am supposed to be viewing the story through. I could go on but I won't. Like I said, I think it's great you liked it. And I totally dig your channel and respect your reviews/opinion. Several good books I have discovered thanks to you.

"She's an investigative journalist? Just a horrible one I guess." Had the same thought. BUT: Some suspension of disbelief is mandatory when reading a Superman book, where people don't seem to picture a person without his glasses ;) Thanks for sharing your reading experience. Sometimes it just doesn't click, I get it. I am also on a Bendis binge right now and probably a bit more inclined to like his stuff. Did you read Cover #1? SO GOOD!
@Mangobed7176 жыл бұрын
Very true on the suspension of disbelief. The older I get the harder that becomes. There is fiction I loved 20 years ago that I have re-visited recently. Only a few of those books have stood the test of time. Problems just really stand out now and ruin the experience. Probably why I am reading more one shots and highly compressed story runs right now. Limits time and money investment if the book is a letdown. I haven't read Cover yet, but I will now based on your recommendation. :)Have a good one man.

Vault comics started to create absolute masterpieces. I am an image guy but when I red fearscape and along these savage shores, I said wtf? As far as their second printings with these homage covers, are extremely collectible.
@WaltsComicBookChannel6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they really stepped up with their latest wave of books. Frankly, I feel like Image's stalling a bit at the moment. Except for Ice Cream Man we're getting the same old genre-mix books.
@nikospapadas57616 жыл бұрын
@@WaltsComicBookChannel I totally agree. Something is clearly missing. Of course they make some great new series like realm, ice cream etc. On the other hand, companies like vault and aftershock are stepping into the image comics territory.

Love the video Walt. Are you going to follow any of the Sandman Universe titles? I'm thinking Books of Magic since I like Timothy Hunter so much.
@WaltsComicBookChannel6 жыл бұрын
I will check Lucifer, cause I loved Carey's run. Books of Magic, well, we'll see. I'm not too excited about the whole Sandman UNIVERSE idea, frankly.
@fehner276 жыл бұрын
I still need to read actual Sandman and actual Lucifer at some point.
@WaltsComicBookChannel6 жыл бұрын
Yup, you definitely need to! Btw, I was thinking about doing a Sandman read-along someday... it's good, that you remind me.

Haven't you read Peter Parker 310 yet? It's the last issue of Chip Zdarsky and I thought it was really nice comics. A bit sentimental perhaps but still good. I also fail to understand Tom King currently, I thought the Vision was great a while back, but now I cancelled my Batman subscription because it's simply not very good and Mr Miracle was intriguing at the start, but now I just get annoyed by its self-indulgence and pretentiousness. Still it gets high praise in general so i guess i'm missing something.
@WaltsComicBookChannel6 жыл бұрын
I just couldn't stand Bachalo's art in PP, so I cancelled it and forgot about the farewell-issue. Might get it in a digital sale someday. I really need to catch up with Mr Miracle. I stopped reading around 5, and even back then things felt exactly the way you put it: "self-indulgent and pretentious". Maybe he got too big too fast. He should def. course-correct soon or he's becoming a chlich of himself after only a few years in the spotlight.
@michielwes16 жыл бұрын
Bachalo I find to be hit and miss, I liked his collaboration with Jason Aaron on Dr Strange, but I also had a lot of trouble getting through the Sandman issues.
@michielwes16 жыл бұрын
Somehow I find it difficult to cancel series that I have invested in. This is the case with Mr Miracle as well as with Doomsday Clock, both looked good at the start, yet now I find them quite difficult for different reasons, in the case of Doomsday Clock, this has to do with the very long interval between issues. The same was the case with the regular Batman series, but after TK announced he was just halfway after #50 I really couldn't imagine torturing myself any longer ;) At those moments it's very nice to read issues such as PP 310 that can stand on its own.
@WaltsComicBookChannel6 жыл бұрын
I feel ya. I have just started to re-read the whole of Doomsday Clock to finally catch up, I had forgotten just about everything. (I'm at 5 now and pretty impressed how good it is). I also miss the days of one-and-done issues, Maybe that's one of the big reasons I enjoy Ice Cream Man so much. It's like a first issue every time I pick it up. Some horizontal b-plotting is very welcomed, but when you're just getting fed an "epic" story over 1-2 or even more years in small chunks, why buy single issues anyways? In the old days they had those recaps somehow pressed into the main story, which was pretty clunky, and non-bearable when read in a trade. But now I would totally be up for it in my monthly books. Maybe it's old age ;)
@michielwes16 жыл бұрын
Walt's Comics and Books i agree with doomsday clock being good. However as single issue it makes little sense. Today i tried reading #7 but gave up after a few pages because I couldn't remember what exactly happened 3 months ago. I hope this isn't due to old age ;)
