Myrwann isn’t trans, he/she is simply sexless. It’s a race that existed before the separation (the new ones) so they contain both yin and yang.

Five years later and I find this. I really enjoyed your review. I’m trying to get more into indie comics because I feel like I can satisfy my craving for personal and alternative stories. Richard McGuire as a figure in the American underground comics (as well as the rest of the RAW comics crew) have always interested me. I read Maus by Art Spiegelman and was floored it was so great. I sought out McGuire’s “Here” without reading anything about it. One thing I love about this book that you pointed out is that the art does most of the heavy lifting. Some other graphic novels (which I still love) make ample use of the text bubbles which can make the story and themes much more digestible. “Here” is not so willing and allows you to come your own conclusions as to the concepts themes being tackled. I also find it very innovative in its use of minimalism in the sense that every page is essentially of the same place. Panels are used to literally shift time to wildly different areas, and yet because they are juxtaposed I am forced to associate them in relation to each other. I could go on for pages on this book and how it plays with comic layout and sequencing, but I’m just glad to see it be appreciated by someone else.

Nice review. Got it in 2019 mainly because of the art. The story doesn’t blow me away but it goes wild at places. It’s based in real facts (partly) and the house exist still. The other work “Little Bird” is more of Bertram’s goodness but with a slight better script.

@@WaltsComicBookChannel The lack of English translations could be problematic but if you want to get some for your collection nonetheless, how about: 1. Tymek i Mistrz (Tim & the Master) - recently it got a lovely 3-volume hardcover deluxe edition (Wydanie Zbiorcze) which includes every single newspaper episode. 2. Jeż Jerzy (George the Hedgehog) - from the same creators as comic #1 but this one's far more crass & vulgar (adults only :P). Also got a 2-volume hardcover deluxe edition (Dzieła Zebrane). The comic even got an animated movie adaptation. 3. Osiedle Swoboda (The Liberty/Promiscuity Estate) - adult content. I think there are 4 collected editions overall. Two of them appear to be spin-offs. 4. Kajko i Kokosz - basically a Polish clone of Asterix.

Haha, absolutely! It crossed my mind while reading that it’s a perfect 60 minute episode of a procedural show. Maybe I am naive, but I think that Brubaker and Phillips Didn’t really intended that. Wouldn’t criminal make for a much better show, which also never happened? I wonder why, With Brubaker’s LA and Hollywood contacts and all...

@@WaltsComicBookChannel Criminal would make a great show, but it's more baggy, less tightly plotted...which would make it less typically Hollywood, I think.

Great to catch more reviews from you. We only Find Them When They're Dead has been a hot best selling book....but to me it is a giant mess...I assume a lot of other people will be dropping it as I am doing. I found Issue two even worse!
