Psylocke in X:Men Apocalypse looks absolutely perfect, but she isn't a character so much as an action figure; she has maybe two lines of dialogue, explaining absolutely none of her motivations. She definitely has lots of badass action moments, but they didn't really even try to flesh her out as a person.

True, though to be fair at least it was a better representation of the character powerwise and lookwise than her appearance in The Last Stand. *Spoilers for Apocalypse* She does end up surviving Apocalypse and just leaves, so maybe she'll return in future movies and get development (maybe in that X-force movie Fox has been talking about).

opesnkies11 - It's always been complicated. Because of different writers, different creators, different ideas. People get fired and someone else takes over with a different ideas. Even with all those complex writing there is still an average of logical continuum in each characters stories that is pretty good to follow.

I kinda wish they'd have psylocke interact with captain Britain more because, despite the fact that they're twin siblings, they don't actually talk that much. I just think it would be cool to see more interactions between the two, with maybe psylocke checking in on her brother or either of them coming to each other for advice with certain situations.

Munn at least physically looks perfect as Psylocke. Like, she looks like she jumped straight out of the pages, so I do kind of hope they bring her back if (or rather when) they continue the film series and give her more to do. They at least left it very open at the end.

It's funny you should say this because Munn dived into the character & stood up for the character but the directors were completely clueless on the storyline and this was poorly managed and made. Munn should definitely get a second opportunity to reprise the role as complex as psylocke the character is, she's definitely up there in the ranks with fan fav

Great break down of the history of Ms. Betsy Braddock, however, the fact that she is not a mutant was missed. It was covered in the old Captain Britain comics that Betsy and her brothers are decedents of the same race of extra-dimensional aliens as Merlin. Her abilities have more to do with how she understands her abilities to work, rather than how they actually work, which is the ability to alter reality. Her older brother Jack's insanity unlocks his raw potential, While Brian's inner focus resulted in his superhero physique and powers. In Betsy's case, it was her psyche.

I was introduced to Psylocke when she wore armor and had curly purple hair a little before the whole siege perilous thing. Didn't really like the new look for a long time. Until i went back and read the new mutant issues with her, giving a better understanding of her inner motivations n stuff. After that i saw how an uber sexy killer ninja badass fit her. So I like it now. If she is ever used more in movies, i'd like to hear her talk with a british twang, that'd be sweet.

Eh, Quicksilver, Cyclops, Jean, and Magneto stood out and left an impression whether good or ill. I will say, they got Psylocke outfit and the visual effects of her power correct. Nothing that actually makes the character great from the comics was included. I'll disagree. The Psylocke from the movie was little more than a cardboard cutout. The look and the psyblade they got (but wtf psywhip?!?), but they completely failed to develop her at all. The mutant at the very beginning who shielded Apocalypse was better developed than Psylocke. I'll give them kudos for at least including the costume and power, but they failed to include Psylocke in this movie.

Hence they *BOTH* identify as *Psylocke* due to the fact they're psychically locked with one another. Then in an effort to ease the psychic torture of being split, and due to the fact each of them are now identifying with this ONE identity (Psylocke) they seek to kill each other to claim the 'title'.

psylocke's character in the x-men apocalypse movie was not well developed and actually kinda nonexistent. (i'll go into my opinions about her in comics throughout her history first, and then talk about psylocke in the movie, what i think could be better, and then also talk a little about psylocke's caucasian/asian race problems that they addressed by casting olivia munn) in the comics, from what i've gathered (after reading through most of her history starting from the captain britain comics), she is a hero at heart. she wants to do good for others, and to protect others. this was evident when she took on a metallic warrior form during uncanny x-men giant sized annual #11, fulfilling her heart's greatest desire to become a warrior and protect her friends. but over the years, she has been hurt, she has been manipulated, she has been traumatized physically and mentally, and she has been twisted around in the worst possible ways. coming out from the "body swap" (which originally was not meant to be an actual body swap by chris claremont.... and it was meant to be temporary, but after claremont left, his original story was messed up by fabian nicieza and was made permanent), psylocke's character was.... not the same. she was violent. and kind of heartless too. personally i blame this on bad writing. writers just wanted her to be the cold ruthless ninja but that isnt her character at all. not her true character, anyway. it wasn't until after the sisterhood event in the late 2000's that saw her reincarnation back into her original british body and then yet another body swap into her japanese kwannon body that psylocke's original personality started to show through again, during uncanny x-force. now, this is my favorite version of psylocke, the version that makes the most sense, in my opinion. rick remender's psylocke shows the most compelling character, which makes way for some of the most compelling stories that have been told with psylocke as a main character. was she violent during remender's run? yes. but she was also a good hearted hero at the same time. deep deep down, she knew what was right and wrong. but because of her history, there were times when she became a bit violent, and actually began to enjoy killing. immediately she would regret those feelings of violence, and there were even times where she chose to kill because she had to, not because she wanted to. the relationship between her good hearted morals and her addiction to bloodshed and violence was actually what I enjoyed most about rick remender's psylocke. it was much more interesting and much more compelling than both claremont's original psylocke and what psylocke became immediately following the body swap. now, in uncanny x-force vol 2, remender was no longer writing psylocke stories, and she once again kinda lost her character. tbh uncanny x-force vol 2 was just bad writing all around in my opinion. she was much better in the marvel now x-men series (especially once g willow wilson took over towards the end) and in the marvel now x-force series. neither of these series were great, but they were readable. psylocke was portrayed ok too, i think. but nothing beats rick remender's uncanny x-force vol 1. in current comics, she leads a team with magneto (well... magneto IS the leader, but psylocke is seen as second in command, and the female leader of the team). I haven't actually read all of the issues in this series yet but from what i've gathered, psylocke is portrayed pretty well by cullen bunn here too. again, doesn't really beat rick remender in my opinion, but still good. psylocke from 2010-present is what I want to see in future x-men movies since x-men apocalypse didn't do her justice. heck, they didn't even get her powers right. they seriously underpowered her telekinesis and didn't even give her telepathy, and did not put much focus on her ninja martial arts abilities either. since rick remender's run, I've seen her character as being truly heroic, but at the same time her character is conflicted and burdened, always struggling with right vs wrong because of the relationship between her morals and the violence in her that has been sparked by her convoluted but tormenting history. the movies have A LOT of really good source material to work with in making psylocke a badass psychic ninja, AND a compelling character that is actually useful to the story. i'm hoping they take that chance. ALSO, one thing that most people don't talk about is olivia munn's race. I think it's great that they chose her because she is half asian. It effectively addresses the problematic race issues that psylocke has, being a white british woman inside the body of a japanese ninja assassin. i'm super glad they chose her to address that problem. could they have picked someone else who is a better actress? eh, maybe. but i didn't pay too much attention to olivia's acting because she didn't really get much of a chance to do a lot of acting during the movie. but i really do appreciate munn's dedication to psylocke, all the training she went through to be in good enough shape for the character, and her research that she's done on psylocke's history and character. i think that dedication trumps any acting issues she might have had tbh, so i like olivia munn as psylocke. i get that not everyone will agree with me, but as a big fan of psylocke that's just my two cents. :)

I think Kate Beckinsale would have been a great british Psylocke if they wanted to go that route in a movie.
@digmyvids

timothy moore yeah I agree. Kate Beckinsale would have been great, though most people would probably hate to see her in a role where she can't fight well, since beckinsale has become primarily associated with action/fighting roles. British psylocke was an excellent telepath, but not really that effective when it came to physical combat. or at least not nearly as good as she is now with the japanese body. but did you know that Kate Beckinsale is actually part asian too? she has some Burmese in her. I think if they decided to go with japanese psylocke (instead of the mixed race psylocke with Olivia Munn), I would probably pick a Japanese action actress like Rinko Kikuchi. I think she's a badass and with the right hairstyle and costume, she could make a good psylocke. of course there are other japanese actresses who would look the part a bit better but i think rinko's experience in action movies and martial arts would put her ahead of most other actresses.

They might still be able to seeing as how Marvel UK still owns Elizabeth Braddock, the NON mutant, and her Brothers.

If they still do the Captain Britain thing, only rumours for now. We'll probably get a semblance of the purple haired Elizabeth. I don't mind if the TV show/movie version isn't a trope of every female ever now being some super combatant. I'd liken her more to Scarlet Witch. Using her powers to be a badass, and probably getting trounced up close. I don't even think every male should be an amazing combatant. Some people are there just for support, and add contribute in other ways. I'm a huge British Psylocke fan and write my own alternate universe version of her. I didn't add combat abilities, just expanded her Telepathy adding Technopathy. I think Kelly Brook would make a good Elizabeth Braddock, just on looks alone.

I was disappointed by Psylocke in the X-Men: Apocalypse movie. Not because of how she was portrayed but the lack of use. They made this big deal about her being in the movie but she had what may 10 mins tops of screen time. I think Olivia Munn did a great job and looked great but wasn't given her time to shine!

Wait....The Xmen gave their lives as a sacrifice for Forge's spell to stop the Adversary. Roma resurrected them and then gave them the Siege Perilious to use should they decide to want a new life, but it was used to keep them from being killed by the Reavers because of the "fever dream" Psylocke had of the Xmen being killed.
