I’m kind of new to the plant life, and I had the realization a little while ago that I had become the person who needs someone to come and tend their plants while they’re away! But my friend said there’s ways to mitigate it and sometimes plants need or like the stress and it’s actually good for them!

One way to deal with the mold issue is to fill a spray bottle with half 3% hydrogen peroxide and half water. Then spray the topsoil of the affected every day until it's gone. I also add a little bit of rubbing alcohol into the mix.

Aloha Fern! Regarding your question on keeping moss pole moist. I've never heard that as necessary from any of the well-known plant experts. Planterina and Summer Rayne Oakes never mention it. A good question for them. Also regarding mold/fungus: That's usually because the soil is not allowed to dry out. I don't think you need to repot. Just scrape it off and let the soil dry before the next watering. Be safe! Be well.

wildfern what I was going to say, I have a big monstera on one and after almost a year its actually sinking aerial roots into it, it just takes time and growth. It doesn’t need to be moist, but the aerial roots do form better with a humid environment
@karenm51294 жыл бұрын
I sometimes have issues with mold on the surface of my soil as well. It usually happens if I open a new bag of potting soil and store it in a too humid area/conditions that encourage mold growth. The solution for me obviously has been to make sure I store all of my soil/amendments in a dry area with access to air and/or sunlight.
@wildfern4 жыл бұрын
Ahh makes sense. Didn’t even think of the storage of the soil. Thank you!

Great video! Love to come home to new grown leaves after being absent 😀 You probably know but it looks like the smaller one of your Euphorbias in the pot has spider mites 😬 Luckily that plant can easily be hosed with high pressure water without damage. I've had to do it myself in the past.
@wildfern4 жыл бұрын
It has an actual spider living on it! Hahah. I should have clarified, it’s so webby 😆 he’s been living on there for awhile and I haven’t had the heart to kick him off but I will probably relocate him soon. Thanks so much for watching :)!!

The yellow stuff is a type of sulfer I was told that collects on the top of the soil. You can just scrap it up with a spoon you don't have to repot. At least that's what I learned?
@wildfern4 жыл бұрын
Really??? Does it smell really bad? Mine smells so bad. Maybe that’s what it is!
@OrdinaryPlantGirl4 жыл бұрын
@@wildfern yes it does! They are little spores in the potting soil. Could grow yourself a little sulfer yellow mushroom! Don't do that though they're creepy

@@wildfern Some of my plants get (yellow or white) mold on the top of the soil and apparently they don't harm the plant! I just scrape it off and water less.

All 3 of my plants (spider plant,philadendron and money tree) had white mold on the top of the soil! No idea why. Maybe the humidity in my room?
@wildfern4 жыл бұрын
Ahh yeah my place is super humid so I think that could be why. I've turned off my humidifier lol.

I used to get mold too, but I live in a pretty dry climate. Now I just spray my plants instead of using a watering can, and that seems to have done the trick. I have to water them a little bit more often that way, but my plants seem a lot happier.

I've only had mine for a couple of months so I am still learning it. So far I water when it's completely dry - or when it feels kind of like softer and floppy lol. I have one in bright light (west facing window) and one under a grow light but a couple of feet away from it, and they're both doing well :)

Hi! I saw your string of hearts (hope it pulls through!) and got curious about the greenhouse method. I recently received a ric rac cactus that pretty much shrivelled up on me and wondered of this might help. I originally thought it got a sunburn; however, even though I put it in gentler lighting, the new growth just turned black. Do you think this might work? I'm desperate to try and find a way to save it if possible. Thanks! 💚

Yes! I have rehabbed a couple of plants this way :) it doesn’t hurt to try! It could give it that extra boost it needs.

6:34 Do you have a better picture of that new growth beside the leaf? It might be an inflorescence, when I had one the leaf that came out at the same time was tiny, too. Also, if you want, write me over on Instagram (theplantsetter), I made a cool moss pole that you don't need to spray and it keeps moist for a long time. It's just too long to explain here. :-)
