As a stationary guard, small of back carry was about the most unwise thing the guard could have done. Pouch carry or chest carry as a stationary guard is very doable and fast. With chest or pouch carry a guard can stand or sit around with one's hand staged on the gun concealed and can draw and shoot in .5 second. I do it all the time when on citizen patrol in large stores. While sitting and chest carrying I have my arms crossed over my chest with right hand on gun under a large, unbuttoned shirt. Left hand is grasping the shirt to pull it out of the way for a draw while right hand is doing the draw. One can't be staged like this all the time, but as a stationary guard, one can. While sitting I simply look like someone sitting there with arms crossed over my chest. The shirt is covering my hand that is on the gun. The same can be done with a pouch if you have the pouch secured and positioned properly. I would provide a link to a video I made for doing a fast draw from a pouch but my links never seem to work. Probably censors that don't like gun self defense content.

It kind of depends on the clothing you’re wearing. I used to carry in a Galco(I think) SOB on summer nights wearing a short jacket over my uniform shirt and I was young and I did practice that draw and it was acceptable fast. However, I haven’t worn that holster (or gun, for that matter) for decades. If you’re wearing a puffy 3/4 length jacket, you could carry a full sized gun in an outside duty holster and keep it well concealed, but very handy. Also, no good reason not to have a backup gun in the jacket pocket. But I think his biggest mistake was turning his back. The more I think of it, having a revolver in each jacket pocket might have been his best choice for this job.

I don't understand why he was comfortable enough to take his hand off of his weapon here. Shame there isn't any audio to maybe better understand why he felt that way. It was a terrible, fatal mistake. Defenders are always at a disadvantage but why disadvantage yourself even more? That said, that spot was also ridiculously exposed and awful to defend; there was pretty much zero cover. I would guess he was (most likely) distracted by the getaway car slowly rolling up. It was only 2 seconds before they were rushing him, guns out, after he turned his head and just 7 before the second bullet ripped through his dome and he was dead. Crazy how fast things always go down. Maybe the third guy in a car had a gun, too, and would have ambushed him? Just a bad situation overall in my opinion.

Literally had to argue with a dude on the gram that carrying without even having the mag in the gun, let alone one chambered, would absolutely get him killed. He figures he'll have plenty of time to load and ready the weapon... This dude was ready for trouble and still didn't have enough time. Its wild the things people think they will be able to competently and effectively do in a life and death emergency situation, particularly when they never ever train for it.

I'm from South Africa, security company's are the ones who are most targeted due to their night duty shifts. The criminals know that the officers are usually feeling tired when it's early hours of the morning.

if your carry isn't a double action revolver but a semi auto you MUST keep a round chambered AND carry on the hip
@gilldavidmour41995 күн бұрын
That's why I like a double action revolver. It just seems 'safe' and a semi auto cocked and locked seems a little dangerous. I know that's not really true however.

@@gilldavidmour4199 Semi autos aren't all made the same. Some are safer than others when chambered. Have to research as some can be dangerous

S.O.B. carry is bad for fast draw. It is worse when you are a large and thick person. It is impossible if you are big AND wearing a jacket.

A perfect example of not looking like a threat, a perfect example of how concealing a firearm can make you look like a victim. His feelings were correct, but he just couldn't brandish his firearm; then, he made the mistake of turning his back on them. When he should've just put distance between them and kept his eyes on them. Again, I feel like there are more videos on your channel showing concealed carriers in self-defense situations than there are open carriers in self-defense situations. The more I watch your videos, the more it makes me believe that concealed carrying is the wrong way to carry. In some instances, yes, you have to conceal. But, for the most part, it makes me very nervous, and I really believe in my heart that it's not the best way to carry, and it makes you a target. I am not saying open carrying doesn't make you a target, but you're probably more likely to be chosen as a concealed carrier than if you were an open carrier, especially on the job. your videos are awesome. They’re great learning videos, but it really has pushed me to be more of an open carrier than a concealed carrier. That’s all I’m saying. I apologize if you don't like that I'm not a fan of concealed carry, but that's my opinion and that's the way I feel.

Once you draw you commit. Oldest lesson taught on weapons weather its a sword, knife or gun. Once its out do not resheath or reholster until the threat is eliminated. You put yourself in danger when your weapon status is known!

This happened two streets behind where I used to stay. The guard was protecting a store and that street (Tudhope Street corner Soper Road) is a crime hotspot in Berea, Johannesburg. I nearly got mugged there right next to those railings during the day. That store he was guarding had actually been permanently closed due to the constant armed robberies. Sad story!

I call BS on "fast draw." The dude in the video saw the trouble coming, and should have had his hand on his gun the entire time. And anyone with a pistol holstered in the small of their back, well...see the above video how well that works. Hip, appendix, or shoulder holster carry are superior.
@737smartin5 күн бұрын
Serious question… which is generally faster, shoulder or appendix carry? I would guess they’re about the same standing, and shoulder MUCH faster if sitting is part of your day.
@XxSilverPhoenix5 күн бұрын
I know this was Africa, but if you do that in the U.S you will have a hard time in court. Prosecutors are relentless and will indicate that you were prepared to shoot and kill.. draw to first shot is not from starting from a solid grip on your firearm. It's from dropping what's in your hands and getting your weapon out with good grip stance and clear sight alignment with knowledge of what's behind the target and the decision to fire while accepting the repercussions of the NOW and the LATER. And that is alot for people at times. It's not as simple as, that's a threat hand on gun until they leave. That overcoat really made his ability to get into the fight almost impossible. They knew he had a gun and at that point he should have still been ready and not dismissed them once they backed off.. this was a very valuable lesson for me. I apologize I was not trying to correct you; what do you think of this added assessment 😅

I don't recommend shoulder holsters as you point the gun at your self with the draw and likely the re-holster.

I'm from South Africa. I'm an armed security guard about 25 years. Many private security companies just issue us guns without testing whether we're competent or not. But I suspect that the victim here is using his own licensed firearm to perform a security job.

As for that belt John advertised, would a few ounces of lead near the buckle end, give some defenses capabilities in addition?

The level of criminality in South Africa is shocking. The country was essentially betrayed by the corrupt ANC (the ruling party for the last 30 years) which destroyed economic prospects for young people - promising change but delivering more of the same. If anyone is interested in finding out the reasons behind why SA is so bad, beyond personal culpability, I'd recommend Hoser's video 'The Most Broken Economy on Earth'.

Another thought I had is that when he initially reached for his gun with it shielded by his body, he could have drawn it without them knowing and put his hand with the gun in his jacket pocket. He would have had the gun in hand and aimed at the bad guys without them being aware of it.

He should've simply completed the draw and displayed it at low ready. The assailants most likely would've quickly moved on to easier pickings.

@ActiveSelfProtection5 күн бұрын
These are all different and fluid situations but I’m most cases when our good guy begins to shoot the bad guys scamper. Some times they’ll stand and fight but those are the exceptions. So for multiple people we work in multiple targets and what we refer to as target transitions

I think the perps delayed shooting because of the victim’s slow draw; if the victim put both hands up after losing the drop, and complied, I suspect he would not have been shot
