1. Show other people that they matter 1a. Undivided attention 1b. Nonverbal Behavior( Body movement, Facial movement) 2. Listen to understand, not respond 2a. Don't be thinking about what you are going to say 2b. If they ask what you think take a moment to think about it 3. Show the speaker that you are following up on them 3a. Ask to clarify something

This video has been so much helpful. Now I can finally listen to what my Smule friends are saying. I also have to learn the importance of leaving someone alone. For example, if my other friends ask me to leave them alone, I must do it.

Thanks for this video. I appreciate it. I had a conversation with a receptionist yesterday. It downed on me that I did not comprehend what she had explained to me because was thinking about what I should say next, defend and drive my point in. I just learnt from your video is a rebuttal tendency. henceforth I will listen to understand and wait to respond.

Thank you very much for the tips. I find myself that I always listen not for understanding but for responding. So, while other people are talking, I am thinking about how will respond to them. So, I never fully get their idea.

Love this... can you make a video (unless you did, which this is a little off-topic video so I can see why not) about note taking while listening to a speaker? I can never listen and take notes at the same time.

My thing is I think no one's listening to me and I'm not listening to myself because when I have a conversation after a while I will tune in and hear myself say the same thing over and over and over again

Can you also provide some practices when we are confused while taking up lead or management position
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, vallabhai. I always ask some clarifying questions. If I'm talking to somebody senior and I get confused, I say, "Let me ask some questions. I want to make sure I'm getting this." And then I start with something I do understand to build common ground and then ask the question about the item I don't understand as well. Good questions are powerful.

good video. thankyou. especially liked the focus on listening well for the sake of the other person (i often just think i want to listen better so i can intake information better, so it was a good and proper converse to that!). i would add that a good technique for me as a traditionally bad listener is to really look at the person's face and even specifically at their mouth and read their lips, this can help if you intake information visually. I don't struggle to listen to the audio in movies or tv shows for example because i am paying good attention to the accompanying video

Hi, Juju. I think I'm following you. The truth is, I'm not very knowledge about how to give non-native speakers advice about listening to English. It's not an area I was trained in and I don't know much at all about how the translation influences listening. I'm sorry I don't have better help for you.

How do you manage yourself when you are such a good listener people treat you like you have nothing to say?
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 3 жыл бұрын
If people treat you like you have nothing to say, then that is not usually related to your listening skills but how you express yourself. Or, you are spending time around the wrong people. When I want to be heard, I work on communicating more effectively. I make my point in a concise, clear, and compelling way.
