Omg I just started working at the office and the person that supposed to train me gets annoyed easily when I ask question . Three weeks in and today she said well don’t you remember what you were thought the other ? And didn’t I tell you earlier? Hmm I got upset and left abd worked on something else .

Can't be friendly with everybody some people don't take that well. Usually its the person being nice or to friendly that gets abused nowadays

You are right in some ways. I build positive relationships with anybody who seems open. But, not everybody is open and some have toxic tendencies. If I can, I avoid them. However, in most contexts in which I've worked, most of the highest-ranking leaders make great efforts to build positive relationships. I don't see a pattern anywhere I've worked or consulted that shows building positive relationships leads to abuse. If somebody is being a bully or unnecessarily harsh, being "nice," isn't going to work. But, there's is a big difference between *_being nice_* and what the video is about. If somebody becomes abusive, the situation changes and we have to be able to adapt. I have had several confrontations over the many years I have been working and most of them helped establish clear boundaries with other people about how I expected to be treated by them. So, standing up for ourselves is also a big part of working well and thriving in professional contexts.

Sometimes you're so easy going people expect you to compromise your own values. When one considers how corruption has entered the market place, wanting to do the right thing these days gives you more enemies than friends.

I didn’t make that up. It’s been said before. As a society, we need to have children to continue, we need parents to take care of us, we need spouses to marry, etc. Without those, we can’t survive as a society. Friendships certainly add value to our lives in many ways that are very special, but they are not, strictly speaking, about literally our survival. It’s probably one of the reasons that when we do build and enjoy close personal friendships that we find a new level of joy and satisfaction in our lives. CS Lewis said this better than anyone, “Friendships give value TO survival.” Friendships help to make life worth living.

Good tips, however Maslow's hierarchy of needs establishes relationships among survival controls - also, human success relied/s heavily on the formation of community groups.

Agreed but group membership and cooperation are not the same as genuine friendships. For example, family groups provide survival help, etc. The quote from C. S. Lewis is about genuine, voluntary friendships. Some people go years and even a lifetime without a true friend. This video is about trying to build real relationships.

I have mental issues so going to work is hard for me. I feel people’s judgments if I’m not as good enough as they are and all the immigrants that they let in this country are competing against me. Never mind poor management that is also abusive by dumbing me down and manipulating me to gain weight. Living at home is also an issue. The government controls everyone’s way of living with who they live with to the money they make. I can’t get along with my parents and never did since I was born. When I tried to exceed in life I wasn’t allowed to cause it didn’t make sense that I was better than my parents. When a Mexican speaks at my job I feel it penetrating into my brain causing serious damage and they don’t like me either even if I’m not discriminating against them. It is incredibly uncomfortable to live on Long Island and have been suffering more and more.

I completely disagree with this. At work you need to be imparcial. Cautious with your words and quiet. Why? Because you are unfortunately gonna spend so much time with them that your emotions will change. You wont always be happy. You cant fake being happy all the time. Stuff happens, family member dying, spouses cheating on them etc. People are not always happy. Is real life. Just stay profesional and dont talk about your personal life. They are not your friends they are your coworkers.

Nope. It's gotta be authentic. Otherwise, people will see through it. But, many people don't realize that it takes effort to create positive relationships. I'm talking about putting in the effort to cultivate positive connections.

@@alexanderlyon Thanks for your response. I understand where you're coming from. What I have seen that disturbed me here is the removal of the scenario from reality. You have to take into account that some people have their own issues and that no amount of effort can make them not be who they are. I've worked with people that everyone at work knew was problematic, a ticking bomb... Waiting for the next victim... They've been working in the company for a long time and built ties with management, and grew sour at work and became bitter for reasons only some know. Some people have prejudice, like... say racial prejudice. People like Rush Limbaugh can never make friends with Obama and if they weren't political figures they could be working together. Maybe you need to reassess your presentation.

I hear you. In one video, if you think about it, I can only really tackle one issue at a time. I have over 160 videos on all sorts of communication and leadership topics. Also, any principles have to be adapted to specific situations. No teacher can anticipate all possible considerations in any one piece of advice. There's always going to be an exception to the rule. So, my advice in this video about building positive relationships must be taken as face value. And, people can look at their own unique situation and either apply the advice or not. So, the assessment of the situation is where you come in. I hope the situation at work improves.
