Community Tank Mates for Flowerhorn Fish. Tank mates for Flowerhorn fish can be stressful because it doesn't always work. Flowerhorns need super good filtration. I advise getting a descent size filter for a good price. The Sunsun series filters are best for that.
Anyone have a large clear for life tank with two large openings on top where the lights are supposed to go? What do you use to cover the holes if not using the light housings that come stock?? The acrylic from the housings are so thin they bow and look tacky.
Here's a question.... So you are at your lfs, a guy comes in asking the employee about his tank.. says it's cloudy white and he can't get it clear. Employee acts confused yet says he knows "everything" about fish tanks... You obviously know the answer .. do you butt in and educate both of them or mind your bizz? • Flowerhorn Tank Mates?...
It was do hard!! If I butt in, I make employee look and feel stupid and if I don't, guy gets wrong info.

My husband and I usually say "oh hey! You know, I had that same issue, _____ really helped me, have you tried that?" my husband saw a woman getting horribly taken for a ride by a sales person a few days ago saying "oh you need this and this, and this bubble strip is a necessity, you'll need this (50 gallon) filter (it was for a 10 gallon)" etc etc insert all the expensive stuff... My husband was like "oh, you know, I tried this and I love it for our 10 gallon! And this is pretty good for that size, it's what we use and it's really great" I think some sales people mean well but if they're uninformed or in it for the profit, their advice might not always be the best to take.
For the sake of the animals teach them both. If the employee is disinterested, speak to their manager. Honestly, this hobby is a continual learning experience, if the employee doesn't want to learn, take it up with the store manager and explain what the issue with the knowledge level is. Not to make things worse, but to just show that you would like to see the store perform at it's best with all information being correct and any lacking information being a willing learning point.
Butting in is for kids, but it's easy for a civil knowledgable person to say "excuse me, I overheard your conversation, could I make a suggestion?"
2 options,wait till he goes out side or he walks away from the employee then educate.other option is to just leave it alone.ive had good and bad results in this situation,I had the individual thank me and was really happy,I've also had the person just kinda shrugged me off and continue to talk to the employees
You’re right. Sometimes this can back fire as the customer may assume the employees know mor than you do. After all, they work in the fish store and you do not. Silly rationale but it happens.
Butt in the adult way, most employees never get offended with knowledgeable advice given to a customer. Think of the animal life before offending someone.
Depends. Is it PetSmart where they don’t know diddly or is it an established fish store? Lol probably lol hopefully he learns sometime soon! If it was a kid I definitely would have used it as a teachable moment. I’d politely butt in and give the proper advice. That way you are also educating the employee for next time someone asks him this question.
I know of a couple of reasons for these symptoms so there would need to be more info obtained. So unless I heard something that narrowed it down to the cause I would just walk away. I was in a situation like that about a month ago at our local PetSmart. some guy walked in and told the associate that he wanted 9 fish for 5 gallon tank. He also asked if that would be too much for the tank. The associate said no they'll have plenty of room in there. So I stepped in and he ended up getting two small Comet goldfish. The PetSmart worker looked at me as if she was smarter than hell and then I shouldn't have spoke up but I don't care didn't bother me none speaking my mind. I used to manage a PetSmart in Northern California and I told her that she needs to be fired.
Thanks for the advice. It almost hurt me not saying anything as I didn't want to sound like a total bitch. I thought of different ways to approach but all sounded horrible.. I'm kinda blunt and come off as rude. I was also waiting for the guy to try to complete a sentence lol. Employee kept asking the guy all the wrong questions lol.
Let’s put it a different way. If I was the customer asking I would love the correct advice regardless who gave it to me. That being said don’t say it in a condescending way like some like to do. I'd butt in and direct them to a good fb group for answers, they both then have the opportunity to get themselves somewhere they can learn.
