Companions' Reactions to Downed Tavs/Durges | Baldur's Gate 3

By popular demand. More words of support from our favorite companions.
Unfortunately I couldn't find files for Shadowheart or Halsin reacting to a Tav (or "generic"), only for Dark Urge. Both missing lines are subbed as "No!" so perhaps they are similar? I wouldn't know from my gaming so far.

@@ladyselin35 What you mean side character main one? lol theres literally 8 'main characters' which is every party companion you can get otherwise besides DU or Halsin/Jaheira/Minsc and tbf Jaheira and Minsc were playable in other games,. Also if you look into it they cut out a ton of content with her, and shes not just a bandit leader mercenary btw, at all. If she joins your party and you find out her history shes a noble born drow Paladin

@@jefclark In Underdark. Whatever title she has in there has no weight topside. She might have rich history but game is out. Shes not a main character but someone you pity. She has no effect on story her death wont change anything. On the other hand youll lose actual main characters by adding her.

If you're resist Durge I guess it makes sense. Your companions get to know you more compared to when you are plain adventurer Tav, therefore a closer bond. That's why I like Durge over Tav is because you get extra longer dialogue and whatnot compared to Tav. Later in the game they start to worry about you over when the next time you will urge out and grow to trust you completely. Karlach showing the most support for Durge imo especially if you romanced her.

i like to think of it more like acting like close friends who often tease each other... but in the case of durge they dont want to risk angering the dark urge... or if your trying to go good path they truly wish to try to support you and help you resist this urge. they might seem to care more for the durge... but keep in mind that the durge definitely needs the support more (or they lose control and turn into a giant murder monster so yeah)

@@plaguedoctor2882 Or he sees it as a case where the Dark Urge is much like Astarion himself in the form of being the unwilling pawn of a more powerful being (Cazador for Astarion, and Bhaal for Dark Urge). So Astarion may see a Dark Urge who is actively trying to resist Bhaal's influence as a sort of kindred spirit.

Honestly, I wish we had different reactions to downed MC from romanced characters. I still remember the tone of voice of romanced Dragon Age's Anders when Hawke was down and my guy seriously sounded like he was about to cry.

Same tbh. Its cute that they start getting concerned even if you're just friends but it'd be extra sweet to have a different set of lines if their partner is downed. Same with Tav/Durge when their partner is downed, even if its the same line for all of them. Itd be such a nice touch; they're bringing back Karlach's actress already, I believe, so fingers crossed they bring in the rest for some more lines too.

I need a Tav reacts to downed companions because my Tav yelled Wyll at the top of his lungs and it was the MOST heartbreaking thing i've ever heard and i wont let Wyll go down anymore because of it but i would give anything to hear that scream again it was SO GOOD!!!!

My first Monk was a Tiefling Tav. I didn't quite understand what Monks were supposed to do other than smack people with a staff, so I tried to balance all of his stats rather than pool them into DEX and WIS. I always put him on the front line and he got his ass handed to him by the Gnolls. At that point he had really high approval with Astarion so Astarion yelled when he was down. Shart healed him, he rushed into battle, smacked a Gnoll in the face, was downed again, and Astarion yelled the same thing. Imagine watching the guy you kinda like get TKOed, healed, and then rush right back into danger.

I love the little details in this game, and one of my favs is who yells when you are downed. It’s always the companion you are closest to / highest approval. It means more when my tav’s closest friend / loved yells out when they are downed, and vice versa.

Yeah every time my generic Tav fell on my first playthrough Shadowheart's only response was just "*NO!*" so I think that probably is just her line for Tav too

I love Astarion, but he always sounds mad or sarcastic in these moments and it bugs me.

It kind of makes sense for his character - he hides his true feelings behind sarcasm, mockery or passive aggresion/aggression. It's very common for him to blurt our his true feelings and then immediately cover them up with nonchalant attitude (see the scene how he reacts if you romance him and then cheat on him with Mizora and he finds out. You ask him wether he's jealous, and he first angrily says "Of course I'm jealous" and then quickly adds "(because) you didn't invite me", since he doesn't want to admit/show that he is really hurt. Even when he yells "No! My sweet, bloodthirsty friend" you can hear it in his tone - the "No" sound legitimately worried, and then he adds the rest to cover up that worry. Not to mention he only says this if you have high relationship with him, so it's clear that he *does* care about you in these moments.
