For a light waxed jacket, I have a Marine Layer made from Hailey Stevensons (UK) waxed canvas. The body is lined with brushed flannel and the arms, polyester. It is remarkably well made for a waxed jacket priced at $225, less than $200 when on sales. Marine Layer makes clothing for a youthful customer base so it's a little form fitting....could be an issue if you're a beefier built guy. I wear in late Spring into Fall. For function and versatility, in non-winter, it is my go-to jacket. For cooler Fall to mid winter, I have the Huckberry Hudson. Love this jacket...I agree with everything you said about it. In terms of style, it is my favorite waxed jacket. Have had it for several years and it has patina beautifully. Have re waxed it once. I don't have a true winter waxed jacket like a Beckbe Tensaw, but in really cold, wet weather, I wear my Filson Unlined Tin Cruiser over several wool layers, and it does the job. The Filson blocks the wind and keeps out rain and snow without any problems. By far, my most rugged waxed jacket....but it is not for the fashion or style sensitive. It is boxy and roomy and I'm swimming in it if only wearing a shirt. But if you need protection, it is head and shoulders over my Marine Layer and Hudson jackets.

I simultaneously have too much self respect and too little self confidence to wear a cowboy hat. So I guess that means beanie wins.

Main takeaway here: with your built you can wear pretty much whatever you want and still look passably fabulous - whereas many of these styles just look like tents on a guy like me. 😂 But a great comparison video, top job! Had no idea they branched out so far into the great Waxlands.

I couldn't get on with them when I tried them on. I'm an Englishman too but couldn't get on with the collar. Maybe I need to give the Bedale another try but I think I like my jackets a bit less English country gentleman.

I think it might be an age thing, but I’m drawn more towards that English look the older I get. I haven’t worn my canvas Carhartt jacket for years because I felt out of place on the streets of Surrey dressed as an American construction worker. The Village People was mentioned a few times. 😂

@@darrenhall7454 ha. I went for the Rouge Territory waxed canvas short jacket for spring/autumn and even cool summer's evenings. It's lovely. But need something for now really. Thr Ship John Wills jacket is the holy grail but impossible to get. I don't want to look like I've just come off the shoot as much as I don't want to quite look like I'm about to saddle up and lasso a cow...buuut, I do like a weighty waxed thing. I'll probably give Barbour another try on or import something like Flint and Tinder's Hudson jacket from the US.

On the Huckleberry website it says that the Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket is warmer than the wool or Flannel lined waxed trucker jacket. Says that it is suited for mid 30 degrees Fahrenheit to mid 50s. While the other waxed truckers were suited for mid 40s to 60s. I’m surprised you say that the shirt jacket is not as warm as the other ones in this list.

Awesome video as always!!! Personally I would stick with the original waxed trucker jacket. Followed by the Bighorn. And finally the vest. All of the models are great. But what is the activity and or needs and or requirements of your life. Much like you, Nick, I live on the east coast. I need something warm, functional, and can be worn in more than one season. But personally I would stick with the original and layer from there. The bigger question is what do I do with my Orvis and Barbour jackets 🧥???

I was able to pick up a Hudson a little less than a year ago in the olive green color for about $180-$200 if I remember correctly. It was a really good sale. Still going strong (one rewax in) and makes a great fall/early winter jacket. Definitely glad I got it when it was a bit cheaper.

I have the Hudson. I like it once I get it on, but I wish the sleeves weren’t lined with flannel. I wear long sleeves during jacket season and it’s hard putting on a jacket with flannel lined sleeves when you’re wearing long sleeves
@Stridewise2 жыл бұрын
it's so interesting the debate about sleeve lining. a lot of people like all natural fabric everywhere - so cotton flannel in the sleeves - others like the ease of nylon. i just hold onto the cuffs with my fingers - like leave the cuffs unbuttoned and grasp them - while I'm putting the jacket on

Great video! You should do a similar video but for Taylor Stitch (waxed or unwaxed) jackets as they have many that are a similar style and price point. Also for anyone who's in the market, also consider Taylor stitchs Clutch Jacket which is currently in the workshop (only a day left to order!). It is inspired by classic British rider and field jackets, but modernized to have a more trim fit and less billowing pockets. It is also waxed but is made of a brand new Halley Stevensons fabric called everwax which looks very promising. PS I realize this sounds like a TS commercial but I promise I have no affiliation with them, I just like a lot of their stuff lol

I actually really prefer these jackets once the wax has worn off because of the breathability. To be fair the trucker is lined with polyester which isn't crazy breathable, but I find it really comfy nonetheless, it's better in warm weather now.
