After watching this I bought the Kuratake and they're beautiful! One thing is though that the glitter almost never goes away.... so I would suggest using entirely different water containers and brushes with the gold shimmery paints than you would use with your regular colours. I've washed them so many times and still, glitter shows up in some of my paintings unexpectedly :(

To me the Kuretake set looks much better. Maybe due to it's opaqueness. I ordered it a few days ago. Can't wait to use it. Btw thanks for the comparison, it was such an informative video.

I got the feeling that the color covers a lot better, and is more even. But the colors of those finetecs.. Want.

These are gorgeous, I love Kuretake art mediums and have all of them bar these gold. I just got the pearl set and am madly in love with the rich opaque colours although you can water them down. I strongly recommend them. They're new, just out. Now I'll add the gold set😊

Thank you for doing this comparison, Sandy! I was also wondering about the differences between these. From what I see here, other than the relative opacity and whether you need to "prime" the paint or not, there's not much difference. Great video! :)

I could see the Finetec has more shimmer and shine to it than that of Kuretake and also they came out more thick and creamy while Gansai is watery but overall. The two looks similar and I'm actually leaning more towards Gansai on this xD. I just love my Gansai.

At the end of your video, I think you've mixed up the cards. Your Kuratake card is on the left, and your Finetec card is on the right. What a thorough comparison! Thank you! Have you ever used the Kremer Pigment gold? I have one, and love it, but would like to find a backup, since it is $10 a pan, plus shipping.
@SandyAllnock18 жыл бұрын
+unSpooky Laughter no I haven't.
@KimberlyCrick7 жыл бұрын
You can't beat Kremer's colibri star gold watercolor pan for that beautiful gold sparkle as the next best thing to real metal gold leafing, but it is very expensive. The next best one is the Finetec "arabic gold" which you can buy single instead of a variety pack on Dick Blick's website for an average of $5 each vs Kremer's $10+ whatever the current shipping special is. They are the closest to each other of all my gold metallic paints, and while Kremer wins slightly in comparison to FInetec it is too close to be worth the price difference.

@anhhuynhkimnguyen67935 жыл бұрын
This video was in 2016 and I have no idea if their formula has changed or not but I’m just sharing my experience :) Ok so I think you might have diluted them a tad bit too much in the first swatching. With my finetec set, I always get a really nice and opaque cover (except for the silver) on both white and black and has a metallic shiny look. But I tend to use them with watercolor paper (cold pressed) so it might be the texture and the black is just usually ink or micron pens. As for the Gansai colors, the result is not as opaque (again, just my experience, I put water on the pans and let it rest too) and has a shimmery, glittery effect instead of a metallic effect, allowing a whimsical look. Overall, I love and use both of them. I normally use the Gansai when I’m incorporating it directly with watercolor paints (like magical hair /lmao u wot m8/ or something flowy) and I use the finetec for gold accents on top of the finished watercolor painting (like blocking in solid gold chunks, like you would do with gold leaf but I neither have access to nor am experienced with gold leaf so I’ll pass)

It keeps sinking to the bottom if you let it sit; then pour water off the top, let it sit, and more settles down in the bottom.

@przykran8 жыл бұрын
if you leave the water jar open for some time, the water will evaporate :)
@satan28068 жыл бұрын
Kimberly E. You can leave the cup out for a while an it will dry out. You could also shorten the evaporating time by waiting for the pigments to settle at the bottom, then pour out some of the water. Not all of the water because you could pour out the pigment
