Great video, thanks. I quite like the motor whine to increase with cadence, so long as it's not too noisy. It's a good easy indicator of rider cadence

Yeah, the electric motor whine can actually be cool, I like it on some EVs. But, I prefer the stealthiness of a silent motor on an emtb. But the motor rattle, that's never cool. Sure, I often don't notice it, so it's not a deal breaker to me.

Just back from a ride on my ‘22 Trek Rail 9 with the Bosch CX. Yes, it’s noisy and the motor rattles going over bumps, but the power,torque and EMTB riding mode makes up for that… especially living in a hilly area, with a rider turning 70 in January. Keep up the impartial reviews ,and have a good festive season😊

The Shimano E-8000 rocks! Just turned 17000 kms (Feb '19-Dec '22). If there is a rattle I can't hear hear it.........just a pleasant whirring noise when under load (to remind me that it's not ALL me)

Same. Absolutely love it. I'd also agree with the comments in the video. Specialised 2.2 very quiet on ascent and descent. Bosch CX gen 4 very noisy on both. Still a great motor but not a Spesh.

Of the EMTBs I've tried in Fall 2023, the quietest by far are the Giants. Even the entry-level Talon E+ 3 is much quieter than the Specialized SL motors.

Yeah, strange that they don't want more attention to their products. But, hopefully I'll get a quick look at one before the end of the year! Won't be a proper test as it's snow "everywhere".

Hmm, you're right! Sure took some time before anyone noticed (: And wow, that image and color grading :-o I guess I decided to include the TQ HPR50 as a reference and forgot about it in the title. The EP801 wasn't available when I made the video.

Yeah, I tried getting my hands on the new PW-X3 or Syncdrive Pro, but no luck so far. I assume Haibike and Giant will have demo bikes araound here for the 2023 season.

I'm waiting to get the Pivot Shuttle SL with the Ride60 back, to do the motor review. Unfortunately I didn't get it before we got snow, so I guess it will be a couple of months. But I could go through the gopro-footage and see if I can make a "comparing 5 lightweight emtb motors" video that includes the Ride60.

Sounds like the brose 2.2 has a slight rattle/clunking noise. Its not as loud as EP8 because brose is belt driven

it is the one way clutch going in and out i think , possibly from chain backlash engaging with the motor/crank clutch , i have ridden the 2.1 and 2.2 before and i didnt notice the issue unlike the Bosch and Shimano which was instantly a problem/deal breaker for me , like a cable rattle you can never stop

I can’t distinguish your bike noise from the distinctive motor noise because you chose a very bumpy track, and down hill with minimal pedal. This is a sound test of bikes on rough trails, not a sound test of motors ! Makes no sense .

The point of descending/coasting is to determine if the motor rattles. It can be very difficult separating motor rattle from cable rattle etc. But being familiar with the motor rattle, I believe I'm able to identify it through the other sounds, in most cases. But one can ask one-self if the motor rattle really matters on a noisy bike/frame.
