So Graff Speedcutter contacted me and asked me to review their power carving tool. I decided to go a step further and got out my trusty Arbortech, and proceeded to compare the two directly.

Back in the seventies B&D made one to put all these to shame but it was a handful. Big, went on a seven or eight inch "low speed" grinder. (2500 rpm) I shaped a lot of chair seats with one.

I want to say thank you to you for this review. I've wanted an arbortech for a long time now but never could afford it and I wasn't even aware of the Graff. I checked online and it's a tenth of the price with free overnight shipping so I can test this out wihtout much financial outlay. I'll make sure to link your video once I get mine and can get a demo, it's rare to find a video this useful.

I've wanted to get into the arbortech stuff but it's a big expense. I wish the graff had more options like the the arbor tech I'll probably get one to try it out.

Another test would be to see what just one pass using the same pressure does with each wheel. In this test each wheel went over the wood enough times until it probably felt like it was a smooth surface through what you could feel of the wood texture through the grinder. This means on hardwood it was possible to get a finish with the graff that felt the same as the arbortech but it might have taken a lot longer to get that finish with the graff. I think the arbortech is going to be faster to work with if you want a smooth finish due to the rounded edges but it will be possible to get the same finish with the graff by spending more time than with the arbortech.

Hi Uncle Cy. Appreciate you making this video on comparison on the Graff and Arbortech. I am just in the process of choosing a carving tool to buy so it is helpful comparison. Arbortech seem to have a fantastic reputation from many of the users I have watched on KZbin, but obviously they are expensive. Just wondered that now 18 months has passed since you did the video, what are your thoughts on the comparison now ? Has the Graff stood the test of time. Love your workbench by the way - beautiful mix of woods. What was the name of that third peice of wood you said was the hardest ? Thanks again, you have a new subsriber !

Interesting.... I thought, perhaps, you were working a tad more slow and steady on the graff disc... Just my feeling, you're not a robot... None of has an axe to grind!
