Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
Key Features:
- MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
- CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
- BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
- SHIP IT
Manage traffic and logistics with industrial warehouses and the use of the new Cargo Services including a cargo airport.
GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.
- WONK HARD
Three new Industry Policies and four City-wide Policies, including Workers’ Union, Sorting, Tolls, Wi-Fi, Logistics, Work Safety and Automation.

@@Vespuchian True, although the pentagonal layout is kind of hard to expand, or to maximize in a one-block city. I also had the same case back when I was totally new to this game and used the octagonal layout which I built over a large roundabout as the template. It actually worked out well, as long as I don't use one-ways.

Biffa, there's one trick involving roundabouts that you can use: When building roundabouts, consider having road used for the purpose to have one lane more than the road it connects. Example, if you are connecting three lane road use four lane road for the roundabout. This way, the extra lane will act as a slip road. Traffic that is going from 6 o'clock to 9 o'clock, 9 to 12, 12 to 3 and 3 to 6 can swiftly do so without stopping. Vanilla traffic AI can figure it out quite well though for more assurance you can enforce the outer lane by using TM:PE lane connector. Sam Bur used this trick in his city fix videos and I try it myself in my cities. It worked flawlessly.
@TheBrothergreen
@TheBrothergreen 5 жыл бұрын
This is also useful because it sets up an inherent pinwheel spiral, where, after each junction, the "slip" lane becomes empty and traffic can merge into it. Be sure to allow intersection lane changes for small roundabouts.
@shingshongshamalama
@shingshongshamalama 5 жыл бұрын
You can also do this by manually building turning lanes adjacent to the roundabout, but that requires a little more space and a lot more work. If you want it to look real good, worth the effort.

Not that everything in every city is well designed, but my biggest suggestion for a new player would be, "If nobody does it in the real world there's probably a reason." For instance... 1.Every road being a 6 lane boulevard doesn't improve traffic 2. You don't want side streets coming directly off your highway. Elevated highways and off ramps exist for a reason. 3. You don't often see repeating of random shapes. Grids you see. Concentric circles you see (in small areas, not the same center point for the whole city). Concentric irregular septagons... Not so much. 4. Highway offramps/interchanges are smaller than highways for a reason. Just like #1, using the biggest road all of the time causes more problems than it solves. So be creative... But if you want your city to function, then know that you aren't going to reinvent the wheel.

@@BlazingsNL I dont think that base shape was a problem. I have a ring city that has 70k population, yet absolutely no traffic issues... His problem (except other things) was no route priority whatsoever combined with choke points.
@saltservice4024
@saltservice4024 5 жыл бұрын
The biggest lesson I learned about the real world to take into cities, is that more lanes = more traffic, *apparently* it would have to take like a 30 lane highway to finally see dramatic drops in congestion in heavily built up areas while then creating another problem being a lack of traffic distribution, which would overload exiting junctions. The solution is basically what Biffa does a lot on his videos, looking at entire sections of roads to understand problem junctions and improving the quality of traffic flow. One simple mistake I have to correct myself with is I put the joining slip-lane on first and then the exiting slip-lane on afterwards. Forgetting or not knowing the small things, end up becoming a recipe for disaster.

About 3: Well... Seems you have never visited european cities. There are very few grids and even less concentric circles. Instead of them there are irregular forms that emerged out of natural forms of the landscape, around landmarks, they just developed through ages. And they do not only work well but are much more beautiful to live in than most of the american cities. Just have a look at Paris or London.

Honest, not a bad city. My suggestion is "less is more" when it comes to road sizes. I've noticed with Biffa / Sam Burr fix it series, a lot of the road problems seem to be road sizes. Or lack of walkability.

And lack of choices to go from A to B. That never happens in a real city. When I go to work I can choose from several paths. Biffa, FYI, With the Traffic manager mod, if you have the "give-way/give-priority" tool selected, you can Shift-click the round-about and it will make the corrections automatically to the intersections on the Round-about. You can also shift-click straight roads to give them priority at every intersection, and make intersections roads yield. It basically makes it a priority road.

I know you're trying to preserve the city as much as possible, so you're limited to the number of options available to fixing this city and plenty of others in the past. But I would of updated a lot of the roads to be more suited to their areas, having max number of lanes as the only road for the whole city is over kill. For new players for any city building game it is easy to jump onto the biggest roads possible from the start but obviously isn't needed.

I feel bad for those who try this game and give up...it takes time and the best advice I can give to new players is to come on KZbin and watch how other players deal with the issues of the game... that's the way I mostly learned and of course playing for hours and hours on end will eventually get you there as well. Sorry for the long winded statement but I remember being a new player and new players definitely need encouragement and support because this game is so worth it down the road. Everyone have a great day. I'm going to see Avengers end game today so I know I will! 😀😀😀

Biffa is addicted to roundabouts....Which have a small advantage over a simple t intersection with traffic lights or stop signs....The vanilla game is a traffic circle, without yield signs... Would love to see a reduced reliance on the "ugly" traffic circle usage. Once the traffic flow can no longer switch lanes in the roundabout without slowing, the roundabout becomes one big stopped traffic jam. Roundabouts break the rule of putting junctions close together, and that becomes the biggest problem with them

@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Only if one is biased towards roundabouts which put to many intersections/lane changes into a compact area, and the traffic will snarl as it increases. Roundabouts are a quick and easy fix for light to moderate traffic flow. Roundabouts are designed to SLOW traffic speed, and therefore flow is reduced. We will just have to disagree on the actual usefulness of the roundabout/traffic circle in game usage.

Oh new player! Hope you enjoy the game. My first city is even worse than this LOL I like using roads with bike lanes (when you unlocked it) and combo it with road with grass for the business area (cos they don't allow parking) to keep traffic to a minimum. Also pedestrian path, if you put it in, citizens love to use them. Spreading out your services help a lot too! Have fun!!

Nice little starter city there. The wheel design looks better than a square grid. Outskirts are now perfect for a couple of train stations especially if connected to the metro (and I'm a fan of double platforms tbh rather than pairing up stations). The area between main residential and commercial looks ripe for a large park too.

That's far better than my first attempt went lol My first attempts were doomed from initial poor planning and fixing it was way too daunting, I could probably go back and fix them knowing what I do now, I'd say though for a first try he did really well. If he learned a decent chunk from your fix his first city may well be the one he takes all the way to a megacity, which would be a really awesome feat

watched a few opf these i notice these people havnt looked at satelite images of actual roadworks, youll very rarely find highways directly going into an inner city crossing, youll have a roundway of highway with serveral main entrys and acceses with broad main roads and then in between youll have inner city under and overpasses usually by spliting in a turnoff with trafficlights onto the previous mentioned main road comming of or on the highway junctions; youll rarely find "box" or "cross shaped" highway patterns splitting citys in half, most common is an elevated "massive" round about called a ring, mostly because you can expand the pattern by adding another ring further out

I have 1k ish hours, and i still struggle some times :) If the creator reads this: biffa missed a few places where there were 1 road section of one way streets, and the industry areas zoning wasnt put up to the road after the switch from big 6 lane roads, to 2 lane raods. @biffa, that junction you made with the round abouts at the industry was sexy as hell, nice one :D

so i spotted the shopping sections on the highways, and thought "ah they have service stations". the issue is that service stations have slip lanes and large parking a petrol station and food/rest stops. so having them physically on the highway, is a no. having slip lanes and a small shopping area, thats possable. the game does not need petrol stations or rest stops along jurneys but.... concider it more like a shopping retail park kinda thing, and it works. Not gonna lie biffa, i was hoping to see some wonderful highways where they original ones were. Kinda disapointed by that. you can make some wonderful highways and intersections, you even have a great one in this video (near the trains). you still love your roundabouts, but you could have built them under/over the highway and made the junctions work realy well. i loved what they had, though i think it just needed neatining up a bit. still just my take

Consider adding walkways between residential houses closer to the mass transit stops. This will help pedestrians get to the mass transit instead of walking all the way across. They could also be used to prevent crossing at majorly busy junctions but still giving them places to cross.

Hi Biffa, you are at least an expert at this ... I would like to see more every-day usage of the type of skill progression we see in RPGs e.g. novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, master, world-class. For the lay-person now it is pretty much a binary thing, right - either you're an expert or not. This just doesn't have enough clarity or range to be useful imo. And also, let's say you get to be an expert quickly; people need room to grow if they keep going after that. Soz for the rant - keep up the great stuff!

Good sir, In this case would rebuild the inner ring of the town again. I have noticed the distance from the central area to the highway is quite far. that means that traffic will choose the short route above the fast route. On top of that, with all roads being 3 lanes the strenght of highway attraction is undergoing inflation having to compete with the towns main road attraction. I could do this town with 95% cheap 1 lane paralel roads with no roundabouts comming from a 2-3 lane main iner ring and probably without outer ring highway at all. Also some areas may work better with timed traffic lights in stead of roundabouts specially when crossroads are to close to eachother.

When I see these videos, I always think about how things are where I live, especially with the public transit and highways. We've got some of the best roads and an award winning public transportation system. I like the "Beltway" concept in this city because our beltway can shorten a 60-minute trip to about 20 minutes. Additionally, because we don't have a public train/railway system, we've got "express" buses that have limited stops in specific areas to connect the bus lines in different parts of town. Ex: You can take 4 or 5 buses to get across town, which would take 3 to 4 hours, or take 2 buses plus 1 Express bus to get to the same place in about an hour and a half.

@@57thorns you can make it work without traffic manager and the base game does allow you to turn off the stop lights now and the use of stop signs can be turned off and on as well. Traffic manager like traffic president definitely makes it easier no doubt but if you play on console like I do you don't have a choice. I constantly have my traffic above 85% and that includes population well over 100,000 and more.....it took a long time and many many hours to get to that point but it can be done. Modified base assets of the game can be done without mods and while you can't get the traffic to do exactly what you want like traffic president.... you can manipulate it somewhat and the best way to get the traffic to go smoothly is having a great layout and taking advantage of alot of mass transit. It can be done but it definitely takes a bit more management than you would with traffic president.

7:50 You want the highway connections to be where the 2 ends of the road enter and leave the train section, not in the middle so that nobody can get to half of where they want to go. Also, since this is for a new player, You should also maybe try to explain 1) that this city is too small to need a "people" train (I don't even build a cargo train until 80k) and that the purpose of the "people train" is to move large numbers of people from place to place. They should be set up as central hubs as the 3rd stage of transportation after bus and metro. Maybe talk about "why" you would or wouldn't want a train station there. I agree, it's a decent attempt at a train station mechanically, but what practical purpose is it really serving, and how is it impacting his budget and his traffic?
