Keep them both. Personally I think the slim chrome bumpers look fantastic in any classic. And dash of originality is never bad thing. It's a shame fe with old alfas they tend to be removed.

Those mounting boxes for the roll cage looks like they could become really effective rust traps some years down the line, you might want to drill some drain holes at the bottom of them and give them a squirt of some rust preventing oil. Great work as always, can't wait to see how it looks with some paint!

Since you are keeping the front bumper i would keep the rear aswell, if the car were to be heavily modified i guess removing the rear could be justefied/look good but i think you are not going that route so i would say keep it. I don’t know how you could possibly work in that heat, i loose all energy at 25c! (All my best wishes for you in finding an aftermarket bonnet that fits) :D

Don't give up on the bonnet,so satisfying to finally get it even with a patch ,I straightened both my Val VG bumpers ,some said that could not be done,and they were my first bits of bodywork since 1971,I just bought a Tig welder for the next patch panels,( I made out of a metal filing cabinet door) ,,I don't know how to Tig weld yet but what is there to loose ,(so many tutorials?)with a couple of scraps to practice on .For the price of the bonnet you can get some really nice tools ?even a good little tig ?shrinker stretcher etc,etc.

Great work again Jeff, Vote on the bumper seems pretty even as far as I can tell. For me, flares and cage do not speak in favor of a bumper but it has to suit your taste. If you can't get the hood back to stock spec I would go all in and really cut it up. Do some bit air extraction vents like the GT 40 had...

If your keeping the front bumper I vote to keep the rear one. I like the dodgy contraption! I feel your frustration, maybe remove the reinforcing from under the bonnet toward the front and beat the high part of the front curve down and then reattach the reinforcements? Still a new panel takes some beating. Made a lot of progress anyhow. :)

Jeff a suggestion that has worked in the past for me😊 Try heat shrinking along the curve in the bonnet. This will remove stretched metal curve and help to pull the strengthening structure back up. Unfortunately this method is extremely hard to explain with written english. However use KZbin for heat shrinking videos. I do such things with my eyes closed after 36yrs experience. You have what I call natural skills so will I believe 😊 make it happen 😊 Good luck at giving it a go 😊 Can't hurt could save you 1200 bucks😊

Good tips on lining up the doors---you had obviously marked the hinge positions as well for reference. If a car hasn't been in an accident, it should be possible to fit replacement doors just like factory but I'm having difficulty achieving this and the doors still drag on the striker plate.
@HomeBuiltByJeff
@HomeBuiltByJeff 6 жыл бұрын
Different doors are always slightly different, which makes it a pain to line up. Factory panels are always better than repro ones though. You just have to keep adjusting them until they fit.

IMHO keep the rear bumper, but section the mounts to make them a tad shorter to tuck the bumper closer to the body. Then take a smidge off the ends of the back piece, fill in the holes and re-drill so you can narrow the sides just a tad closer too. Hot rod shops do this all the time, and on a 240 it's actually really easy. Also, cut out and fill any of the uneven factory spots in the rear panel behind the bumper if that makes sense.
@TonyZXT
@TonyZXT 6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I should mention that this requires some type of refinish of the bumper, cause obv you can't weld and polish on chrome. I'm going with a fine brushed nickel vinyl on all my chrome on my next project.

Love your channel Jeff, picking up some good tips from you. I am currently struggling to decide whether to keep my rear bumper or loose it, so I'm no help to you there. I'm also having a hard time deciding whether to flare it or not. I love it how it looks already, but also like the flared look, and running flares would allow me to run wider rubber. I would love to know how heavy your cage is because I'm considering adding one to mine to help with chassis stiffness as I am putting nearly 500lbft through the car, thats a lot of twist and while the chassis actually seems relatively stiff as it is I reckon it could age it quicker if I don't reinforce it now. However I'm also not looking to add much weight as I want the car as light as possible so would be nice to know roughly how much I would be adding. I'm thinking I would be going with a weld in cage for mine.
@HomeBuiltByJeff
@HomeBuiltByJeff 6 жыл бұрын
I will have to weigh it, but it is less than 20kgs. One of the big issues is how big are you? Like you may have seen, there are real issues fitting the cage with a big driver, as there is just no room.
