I regret not snagging a 5.7 V8 Tundra when they were available. I am tempted by the 2022 4Runner with its venerable drive train. I own two full size pickup’s and think there are advantages to smaller and more nimble. My 1983 Toyota Pickup was great off road. Simple no luxury 4 wheel drive. It was narrow enough to pick the right line through a rough section. With the right tires it just floated over sand. My Silverado is so heavy that I have to watch Utah sand like a hawk. Awesome video as usual. Enjoy your Tundra. I hope you get 191,000 miles out of it like you did with your 4 Runner.

I'm really impressed with the drivetrain, that's my favorite thing about the new design. Yeah, V8s are great, but I really like the turbo sixes that are coming out. I know there's a lot of naysayers about this, but I think this is a fantastic development for this truck, and your mileage definitely shows that. I'm hoping the next gen 4Runner uses something similar. Also like you, I'm very disappointed in the lack of front recovery points and proper skid plating on this model. You shouldn't put "off road" on the side of your truck if you're not going to include basic off-road features.

@@terryoliver5912 I commented before that was widely known. Regardless, the power numbers that it makes are good. I trust Toyota will iron it out sooner than later. Ford just announced they will be bringing the F-150 next year (2023). The RAM and Silverado are already here. But still no work from Toyota (nor Nissan for the TItan). Finger's crossed the Tundra becomes an official import by Toyota here. 🤞 But we're lucky as we still get the Landcruiser here. Both in 70 series and 300 series variance.

I've driven that path many times and it is beautiful. I took my 2020 Tundra TRD Pro on that trail last summer and it was a ton of fun. With that said, there's nothing about this new Tundra that would ever get me to trade it in for the 2022. The entry price alone is a huge stop for me. I would argue my TRD Pro is twice the truck that the 2022 TRD Off road is for $11,000 cheaper.
@Hokiealum992 жыл бұрын
Nice. I love it I really do. I had a tundra in the past before the awesome updates to this model. But still without the ultra long post some have done. Its nice for what it’s made for but it’s still not as capable for overland as a 4 runner or Tacoma. At the end of the day the tundra will be calling for recovery when the 4 runner is safely back home. The 4 runner is still the king bro. You have a contractors vehicle. Nice but serves a different purpose.

Change you air intakes, I have tested stock and AFE Momentum air intakes and they do work to improve gas mileage. I drove my stock air intakes around town and Hwy and the best total average MPG was 15.4 Lt/100km. I put the aftermarket air intakes on and I was able to get TOTAL AVERAGE 12.4 Hwy and 14.2 city Lt/100Km. The key to obtaining better results was being very gentle on the gas petal, not having a heavy foot. OH, and I tested this in normal mode also, I didn't do sport or ECO (from what others have been saying, it is a gamic, basically has to do with the actual gas petal function, not the engine programing it self). Also, some have said that they have driving in Sport mode and it equaled out the same because the engine has to work either way to get up to speed due to the weight of the truck. So, hypothetically if you had 10 km to travel and you wanted to get up to speed of say 80 km/hr , in normal mode ( with a light foot) you would be easing off the gas petal at approx. 2km. Using Sport mode (with a light foot), you would be easing off the gas petal at say 1km. Any way, hope this help of my personal experience of the air intakes ( as for horse power, that would have to be dynode and I am not paying for that): one of the big reasons I bought the DRY air filter system for my 2023 Tundra was reusable). Al the very best, LOVE your video's!

But anything new with all the new tech and stuff is pretty nice to have you just might not be able to go to the same places as you did with your 4-Runner. It's too bad Toyota hasn't sorted out their lockers yet. It looks like it still takes a long time for engagement and I wonder if it still won't lock when you are not on a level surface. I know this is a new truck for you and you're probably a bit excited about it. However, I can't help but wonder if you have enabled Toyota by buying an "off-road" package that has 20" rims, low profile tires, plastic skid plates, in general seems low to the ground and a front clip that appears to have poor approach angle. It is a lot of money to mod all these things to make it perform better and be more reliable offroad. Toyota will never get the negative feedback if people buy a truck like this. 20" rims are just inexcusable in my opinion. My wife having a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 20" rims and low profile tires has been nothing but problems and doesn't even touch anything but pavement. That's even with Nitto Terragrapplers mounted. I drive a Power Wagon, and even the latest models are running 17" rims, even with such a large truck. I have very little problems and I do torture it in pretty severe rock crawling situations. Somebody in that company knows what is functionally better. I don't know, it just seems there is some misguided motivation for these companies to go against functionality for 20" rims and plastic .
@trailrunnah88862 жыл бұрын
Agree. Toyota tries, but they just don't really get it with the off-road stuff. They give you a rear locker in this generation, but plastic skid plates, 20" wheels, and no recovery points. I watched an Australian review of the new 300 series Landcruiser, that comes with plastic skid plates as well. People love to talk smack about FCA and Stellantis, but they definitely get it with the off-roading equipment.

@@RevereOverland oh...I should of been more clear. You're obviously using Carplay with you nav app (full screen). Android Auto (as far as I know) only allows a windowed view of the nav apps on the truck screen. Unless this is something Toyota allows.... 🤷

@@erich1880 oh, right! Yeah it's from my iPhone. I don't know many people with an Android, so unfortunately can't test it out!

@@RevereOverland 👍 how do you like your cast aluminum running boards? I ordered the same ones for my 1794 instead of the powered running boards.

@@julesalaude458 as running boards they're great. They're solid, grippy, and make a great step. You also don't lose too much ground clearance, although I'll be switching them out for rock sliders.
