Saw Trace open for Martina McBride in Shreveport. Their tour bus had crashed on the way to the arena killing a man. Trace came out and told the crowd the situation and said he wouldn’t ask his band to play that night under the circumstances because they were hurting. Trace sat down and sang this song and then walked offstage. So solemn and very appropriate for the circumstances. Some were angry that he didn’t do the show but I felt it was a classy way to honor the deceased and hurting.

@@mmooppaarr6699 it was originally sang by Scots-Irish men who were immigrating from their homeland and were immediately thrown into the Civil War and this hymn was their reminder of home and their hopefully joyous afterlife to raise their spirits. I can't possibly imagine what they went through so I'll stick with the bluegrass version and say a prayer that their souls made it home and their families prospered from their sacrifice.
