These old 75,000lb Clark axles are huge! And the week bearings are massive. Thankfully parts are still available and the repair can commence. Each bearing was $1000 and the seal $1200 for a total of $3200.

Those are the biggest Timken boxes I've ever seen! I guess i shouldn't be surprised things were that expensive. I don't get seals being as expensive as they are. There's so little to them. Great job Scott and Nick!

Thanks for an impressive video Scott and Nick. This was an amazing repair job on huge pieces of equipment. Wow. Huge compliment to Scott for his engineering of the bearing replacement process. Hard work with the pieces as big as they are. Thanks to Bob for cleaning all the parts and Nick for lending a helping hand to Scott for the big big heavy pieces of the project. Absolutely brilliant work that you folks do in your own shop to put this equipment back working in the field. A lot of folks would not tackle a project of this size BUT you did and did it masterfully!!!!!!!! My compliments to the Welkers!!!!!!! Glad to see the Big Bud back in the field. Was interesting to see all the pieces go back together. Was quite the process. Nice work Scott!!!!!! You all take care and be safe. Thanks. My blessings to all of you. The Iowa farm boy. Steve. 😊👍👍✅🇺🇸

Scott, when installing large bearings, a freezer, or Dry Ice, are your best friends. Last time I did bearings that size, was on planetarys that size, in the mines, in the late 70's. Best wishes from the North.

Nice work Scott. The seal will 99/100 go in with not much force, compared to the inner race,'cos it's not solid like the race (It bends)! That is why it went in easily. Nothing complicated, just simple physics. The smaller the seal the harder it will become! Just from years of experience! Thanks for the video, from UK.

Scott, to make removing those bearing races, just run a weld bead down the center of them all the way around, let cool and they'll pop right out, that weld causes them to shrink when they cool.

I replaced some bearings on a jcb. I don’t know what they call the seal. But it presses into the hub and on the spindle. It turns and seal on its own surface. Nice the spindle never wears but extremely hard to get right without the right tools.

Did you allow for the play in the threads of the adjusting nut? When you install the lock nut after setting the preload, the lock nut will push the adjusting nut in slightly (whatever the slop in the threads allows). If the nuts fit loosely on the threads and you have set the preload close to max, when you tighten the lock nut, you may end up with too much preload. While unlikely, it's possible to overload and fatigue the bearing rollers. Recheck preload after lock nut is tight.

Many years ago I had a KT 600 in a semi cavalier Kenworth and it seat so I took a oil bath air cleaner off of a old Massey hires out of the 50s tractor and hooked it air breather side to an extra on the cam Fowler box where you pour the all in and put one of them on there and hook the hose to that it took the carburetor side of the air cleaner and hooked it in so it made a vortex right in front of the turbo so when the truck got to work it harder he create vacuum and suck it down through there so I bet if you got one off an old ram Farmall M, you might even have one sitting around the farmer something about

I have seen seal install failure due to axle was not level. If the repair side is higher than the other side, the bottom of the seal hits the hub before the top and the seal is pushed out of center. My mechanic replaced 3 seals in three weeks before saw his mistake. He scoffed. I asked him why his installs repeatedly failed. He could not answer.
I Thought Wrong!
