I'm not going to lie, this was an incredible video. I never knew about this machete. The design of it is amazing, especially the angled handle. You ran it through hell, something far more extreme than what I would ever use it for. You 100% just sold me on this. I'm going to buy it. And I'm going to tell others about this video. My mouth was open watching the entire thing. I can't believe it didn't break. This is a very effective way of just showing the world exactly what can hold up and what can't.

It did fairly well. The heat treat on the 1075 is quite good. 1095 is really not a good choice for long blades. The handle scales getting loose is expected. It nearly always happens with extensive use. Look at these machete's in third world countries. They are often wrapped due to loosening. Epoxy holds up until a point.

So far it looks like 1075 steel is generally indestructible in human hands, whereas every example of 1095 we've seen snaps fairly easily with impact on the poll. Companies like Becker should definitely explore using 1085, it would be interesting to see if just a 0.1% reduction in carbon content would make a BK9 survive these tests.
@joex2 жыл бұрын
yes i totally agree, i don't know why those companies won't try it!!
@dingyudingy68482 жыл бұрын
low hardness and low carbon content play big roles on toughness of machetes.
@Ve-suvius2 жыл бұрын
People over-value edge retention, that's probably why. I see comments like "I want S30V in that chopper". Yeah sure: PING ! 1.45% carbon. No thanks. In a chopper toughness is way more important than edge retention. Sharpening up a blade is easy. Welding a broken blade... nah..
@concealmenttraining93712 жыл бұрын
@@Ve-suvius companies are under pressure from the masses to give them what they want, thats why you see steels like S35VN in hard use blades.
@Ve-suvius2 жыл бұрын
@@concealmenttraining9371 Yeah the supersteel snobs. Lots of them on Bladeforums. And then they learn they chip also. But all they care about is edge retention. Totally silly. And it drives the prices up because of them.

Wow these machetes can take a beating. I already had a few Cold Steels but this makes me want to invest in either this one or the ESEE Darien machete (same manufacturer and materials). The Darien seems like a smaller version of this one that's covered by the ESEE warranty so I think I'll go with that one. Thanks for the tests as always, you're helping a lot of people choose what tpo buy.
