This year I've decided to visit a few more historic theme parks to document them. My trip to Conneaut Lake Park was quite an upseting one. In this episode we will take a look at what's going on with this historic park. If you want to see any on ride footage head over to my Patreon.

It's criminal what the new owner has done. There were so many valiant efforts over the years to retain the charm of this park, and now it's been gutted. But, money talks, and no other person or entity ever stepped up to really save Conneaut Lake Park. It's sad, but I'll still have the fond memories of our many visits over more than half a century. Rest in peace, Blue Streak--you were the greatest.

There use to be a ride called the ultimate trip in the 80s. It was the mad scrambler indoors with black lights stroke lights and music. Until the building collapsed and they scraped the ride

Just came across this. Sad to see what happened to this park. We used to go there a few times a year. It was a cheap fun way to spend an afternoon. That area used to be booming as a summer destination. A lot of people from Pittsburgh and Cleveland used to have summer cottages that were in Conneaut Lake and Pymatuming Lake. Once those tourists stopped coming in droves after the 90s, Conneaut Lake died a slow death. At one point, it was ran by people who volunteered to work at the park in order to keep it running. Hollywood came calling to there in 2009ish when a few scenes from the move The Road with Viggo Mortenson were filmed there. One scene that sticks out is towards the end part of the movie where they used CGI and Viggo and his son are walking past a run down amusement park by the Ocean and they walk past a Conneat Lake park sign.

Across the street used to be the kiddie park called Fairyland Forest. There are a few videos on youtube about. I think there is a campground there now but some of the old things like windmill and the whale are still there.

This guy, from day one, only wants to have a kiddie park and water park. The condos are coming. The new owner hasn’t a clue as to what the hell he is doing. And the Blue Streak is in serious Danger of getting bulldozed down.

It's a real shame what has happened to this park. It was packed when I went in 2017, I only got on 3 rides (Blue Streak (2 times), Devil's Den, and Tumble Bug), but given what rides they were I'm glad I got on them. I don't know if it's a fair comparison being that the whole park hasn't been bulldozed yet but the current situation at Conneaut seems similar to when Fred Trump purchased Steeplechase Park on the Coney Island Boardwalk in the 60s (as a result of that, only the Parachute Jump remains standing, and it isn't even operational).

Sadly for the tumble bug, it’s over. They couldn’t find parts to fix it so they decided to dissemble it and leave the cars out on display. I’m really upset about it too myself. I have been going to this park for years and it tears me up knowing that the park is ending up in the wrong direction. I’m hoping for one last visit to this park just in case something bad happens. I’m so glad they kept the carousel and devils den but the other thing they got rid of that meant the most to me was their old pony track they used to have. I am really upset about how this park is turning out and I hate the fact that they replaced a couple of classic rides. I love this park and it has a special place in my heart but it hurts knowing the park has gone this way 💔 :(

This park seems to have been taken over by someone who is only concern is greed. They have no concern for preserving something that is super historic just whatever’s gonna make them the most amount of money. The tumble bug was not scrapped because it was impossible to repair it was just more money than they wanted to spend. Nothing is ever beyond repair you can always find parts or find someone to manufacture new parts or heck build the whole thing from scratch. The real reason that it got disassembled is they didn’t want to invest the money in repairing it. And sadly that’s what happened to a lot of the other rides like the bumper cars there was no excuse for that bumper cars are still a popular attraction you can buy parts for them. If this park does not begin to turn around for the good I will not be wasting 4 hours driving there. It’s sad that any more wealthy company owners and in this case theme park owners don’t see the bigger picture and only want to squeeze money out for a quick cash grab and unfortunately that leaves the company or theme park to die and they end up closing series is a prime example of this. These places need to realize that if they invest some money in upkeep and making the store or theme park better they will make more money in the long run and yeah it takes more effort. Anyway I’m glad I got to see what I did see of the park although it was kind of devastating especially being my very first time there and I’d heard and seen so much good things about this place

@@TiltedTripodMedia I see what you’re saying but considering it was one of only two remaining ones left in the world, I don’t understand how they would continue to make parts for them but if that’s true that they do still continue to make those parts, then the owner should’ve just bought some new parts for it instead of giving up on the tumble bug. I’ve never thought of it that way and if it is true, then they need to actually start taking care of that park before it ends up dying. Such a shame the owners didn’t realize this honestly tho like you said, it is very expensive to buy new parts so they might’ve not had enough money but still they shouldn’t have given up on those rides.

@@emsedits5692 well first of in today’s world of custom made and 3D printed there is always a way to obtain parts for things now a days. Being the owner is wealthy if I remember correct it wasn’t a case of not enough money or no way to fix the ride but greed. All anyone ever sees is $$$$ anymore instead of looking at the bigger picture. Take Kmart and Sears for example rather than investing in updating the stores and products the ceo just wanted a quick cash grab and so now look where they are. However if he had invested in updating the stores look how much more money he would have. Oh but that takes work and time 🙄. There are plenty of historic things as old or older than the tumblebug that still work to this day. All I see is greed in this instance. It’s cheaper and easier to tear down and throw away. Preserving history is very expensive I know because I have a retail and vintage audio collection museum and restoring them is $$$$

Yeah because they didn’t want to invest in repairing it. Greed ended the tumblebugs life because if I remember right a millionaire bought the park so he had the capital to find or build parts.

@@TiltedTripodMedia A guy paid 1.3 million for the park and spent quite a bid on demolition, clearing the land and restoration of some of the buildings. I think that was all the money he had. So the operations are now on a shoe string.

@@johnj.baranski6553 he should have purchased the park and kept it going as it was the park hadn’t really been abandoned so it couldn’t have been in that poor of a condition.
