This video has literally been a life saver! My friends and I started a podcast and bought usb mics but they were mixing to one on my computer and we did a lot of research to get a mixer. We didn’t want to get rid of our usb mics and now we can use the 2nd method 🤗 thank you!

Thanks! Man, you know how to explain exactly what I needed to know about my usb-c mics and recording. No flashing decals, no show-bizz tell-sell style, just the bare facts and - equally important - the pro’s and cons of each choice. Looking forward to more like this 😊

This video has been immensely informative and helpful for me getting my podcast started. Question: I have both mics on their neutral setting and haven't changed the setting of either on the mixer, yet the mic plugged into line 2 is audibly quieter than mic one, any reason why this is? Again, this is with all settings on both pieces of equipment completely neutral, and am still getting overall slightly quieter audio from mic 2. Thank you!

Wow this an amazing tutorial. I do have one question though: we are to content creators sitting 4-5 feet away from each other and both using USB Mics. Not always but sometimes during the recording we get echo in some part of the recording. We run all trough OBS. Do you have any quick solution for this. I was thinking buying x2 Diadem mics and audio interface. Would that help? Thanks again on your tutorial

Hi, great original video because we all heard the blabla about a separate audio interface needed with an XLR mic vs the build in one in an USB mic. I personally believe that the USB mics will continue to evolve and will be closer and closer to the XLR at least for the low to medium quality (may be you should change your yeti vs a se electronic Neom, which is to me the actual number 1, but it's a question of taste 😁) Basically, like you mentioned it, the reproach to this method is to add steps and it would have been better to find a way to disconnect the converter (but not the power). And finally a question remains: is it better than Voice metter banana? Because it does the same thing : - gain -15 band eq -compression + echo adjustment with the tone of the voice + latency adjustment between the mic and the headphone etc A comparison between both solution would be great. 👍👍

For sure. I tell most of my friends to buy the Elgato Wave 3. The software suite and ease of use make it a better solution than a SM7B +SSL2. In the real world, it's about simplicity. There needs to be a reason for every tool you use. Voicemeeter Banana is better than connecting to an external mixer, unless you need to mix multiple channels/mics at the same time. That being said, Voicemeeter Banana isn't very user friendly. It STILL looks/feels like a Gen 1 digital mixer. If I was given a free choice I would go with the Rode NTUSB or Elgato Wave 3 because they come with better software out-of-the-box.
@LeSaff
@LeSaff Жыл бұрын
@@kettnercreative Thanks for your answer! I have no knowledge about the elgato. Actually I'm not a big fan of the SM7B. Does it come with a soft like the MV7 (if I don't make any mistakes ) ? Also, I couldn't find a test with the SM7B and the preamp SE Electronics TNT. If it works well, it is half the price of the cloudfilter. I also heard that it is possible to couple the SM7B with the Audio interface + Voice Meter Banana then, you don't need the Cloudfilter. Didn't have time yet to dig more. VMB, I totally agree with you about the design & simplicity, but it's free so, we are not allowed to complain ! 😂 I really became crazy to get a simple Set Up, but it's done and all the softs (Audacity, OBS...) works with the "default device", I can even add Krisp for the noise reduction. My TOP USB Mics... SE-E Neom (to replace the Samson G Track Pro, that I prefer to the Yeti) Rode Podcaster Rode NT Shure MV7 For the fun, the Samson Go Mic (super versatile, fun and surprisingly good with a bit of EQ)

I got a Blue Yeti for bagpipe lessons through Skype. The mic is very sensitive and so badly distorts the bagpipe sound that it is worse than even laptop mic. Changing settings on mic does not help. Would an audio mixer or interface help to quieten the sounds and make it work really good? Thank you!

Quick question, why did you connect specifically the left output to the combi jack? Would it have made any difference if you connected the right or used a TRS stereo 1/4 inch cable?
@kettnercreative
@kettnercreative Жыл бұрын
It really doesn't make any difference whatsoever. You can use a TRS 1/4" if you want, but it ignores the second signal in the cable giving you just the left side anyway.

Phantom Power is only needed for Condenser Microphones, and if a Condenser Microphone is designed for USB ports, it should be satisified with the 5 volt signal from the computer, Microphones that are designed to be used with mixers, (that have XLR or 1/4 inch cables) normally use 12 to 48 volt Phantom Power, either built in to the mixer, or supplied through a box that is put in-line with the microphone cable.

USB mic input? There is no such thing as USB audio. Essentially USB microphone is microphone + USB sound card. So you will need driver software for that sound card. Obviously, mixer will not run any software.
