4:58 pay extra attention to that part, folks. I've learned it the hard way, I learned this the hard way as I ended up replacing my studio's mixer around 4 times. Back then I used to treat XLR and 6.5mm TS/TRS cables as the same thing.

I looooove my Mackie ProFX6v3 and my Scarlett 2i2. I have a Yamaha MG06X too which I adore…its compact and the D-Pre amps are whisper quiet compared to the Onyx Preamps in the Mackie but for DJ’ing the gigFX engine is my favorite when I’m on the mic 🎤

Dude thank you for the DI box advice. For a gig I have coming up they only have a speaker that supports both xlr and trs inputs but they're both mic-level and the only line-level input they have is rca and I was like really??? Solid option though you just helped me save a ton of time.

Great Info!!!! just came across your site. I am looking for the best way to connect my rig correctly. For studio recording I am connecting my workstation directly to my interface inputs, my midi controller, workstation, and drum pad connected via USB to my computer. Interface line out to my speakers. Just wondering do you have a video for correctly wiring for live gigs. Thanks look forward to surfing your videos.

One of a few really well done videos on rhis topic. Liked and subscribed! Would love your feedback on my specific situation as I am learning. I've been running a two channel line isolater to the mixer for 2 instruments from a line out xlr at the end of each chain (acoustic preamp/DI for one, and cab sim pedal for the other). Never paid attention to what the sound guy does from there...until now. Rather than use 2 DI boxes, it sounds like might have several more options: 1) Use the mixer's pad or an inline attenuator to mic input, 2) an xlr to trs adapter to the line input, 3) just straight into the mic input and use my end of chain output levels to attenuate?? The acoustic DI is likely intended to go straight into a mic level, the cab sim seems to be a true line out. What are the better of all these, or all basically the same in your opinion? Thanks! Sorry for the long question

Nice video! Question my DJ controller has balanced 1/4 inch out but the Yamaha mg06 1/4 inch line input states it’s unbalanced. Will the balanced 1/4 inch TRS have any bad effects or damage the Yamaha mixer?

Have a Boss VE Vocal Harmonist Pedal. Wanted to use it through my Yamaha Mixer. It runs with an 18 volt power supply. What is the safest way to use it through my mixer? Do I use a Direct Box or can I simply run straight into the mixer. *So,.. is mic to pedal to mixer possible safely?*

Hey, my name is Daniel and I live in Greece. I am working as a Dj at events, weddings and parties! First of all, I want to thank you about your videos at KZbin. Your job is amazing and the best. Secondary, I have a question about audio system setup. I have a Yamaha MG16XU mixer and I want to connect a guitar and bass to the mixer, but the distance is about 10 meters. My di boxes are the Behringer DI-20 and I don’t know how exactly should connect it to my mixer. I will connect the guitar to Channel 1 In of DI-20 with TS to TS mono cable and I will also connect the CH1 out of DI-20 to the mixer with XLR to XLR cable that is about 10 meters. Should I click on the pad button in the mixer or leave it disable to work as mic level input? Sorry for my English, and thank you for your help!
@kettnercreative Жыл бұрын
You don't need the pad, just leave it at mic level. The DI box will automatically set everything to mic level for you.

Should I connect my iPhone on the front of the interface with a balanced TRS 1/4 cable? Or unbalanced on the back on inputs 3 and 4? Focusrite 6i6 2nd generation. Just want to listen to my audio through it without taking my headset off or having my microphone pick up my phones audio. 😊

The mixer says Mic / Line. Generally does that mean it’s line level if using a TRS, and mic level if using an XLR? Or does it mean the pad will make it go from line level to mic level?

No, Hi-z is very different than pad. Pad reduces the signal strength Hi-Z changes the impedance for instruments with magnetic pickups.
