I always thought octoprint required hacking the firmware on my printer, but watching this showed me how it really works! Just ordered the needed parts and will be doing it asap!

It’s really not as complex as people make out, you can make it as complicated as you want with add ons ect, but the basics are easy.

HA HA, Splendid. I got offered this video because I just watched your wired-to-cura E3 v3 SE video, and decided to consider giving octoprint a go......and here you are.... doing exactly what I need to watch. Thanks.

Just finished watching - and this is exactly what I needed to know to get started with octoprint - Thanks again! (Video bookmarked for future reference :) ) Update : All installed and running. Great fun - but the most impressive bit was finding that I could tell Cura about it and print straight from cura, through Octoprint!

Got the ender-3 V3SE as my first ever 3D printer beginning of the year. Lots of things to learn and the machine is running almost 24/7. As the printer is in another room, I got tired pretty quickly running back and forth with SD cards. A notification when the print is done would have been also nice. Then I found octoprint! Had a Raspi4/2GB idling in my drawer and in a really short time had the whole thing set up. Some more, there is even an adapter for the home automation system I am using. So I can set up a dashboard for monitoring and controlling all kinds of things (eg. shutting down the printer and Raspi when a print job is done in the middle of the night, audible and visual notifications when a printjob is done etc etc) Amazing what you can do with that inexpensive litte printer! I am going to be sooo busy 😀

@@3dPrintedSoup appreciate you making the video and taking your time to respond. However, none of the settings, which @amikell94 asked about, are located within this page. There are a few nuanced parameters required for the correct printer settings to the correct printer's capabilities. This video showed everything else, but literally that part, of setting the correct setting within octoprint. Again, thanks for your help, but this would still be appreciated! Edit: it says if the wrong settings are used, could cause a fire. Want to be sure to avoid that!

Just a question (or two). My 3d print always stick to the bed and are really hard to remove. Do you know how to make it easier to remove the prints. I usually make supports at the bottom so they will go off easier but that wastes my filament and it gets messy. Do you know a method to get them off easier?
@3dPrintedSoup3 ай бұрын
Several answers for this one, the easiest is to let the print cool, the print should shrink a tiny bit when it cools, this helps the print release from the print bed. Get a flexible print surface if you can, these allow you to bend and warp them till the print comes free. Finally, a metal flexible print bed with no. Stick coating really makes life easier. Of course these tips are for filament printers, you don’t say which type or brand of printer you are using. Hope this helps :)

This is just the sort of thing that I've wanted to do, but other tutorials I find to do what is advertised as the same thing, seem to require an update to the printer firmware in conjunction with the installation of Octoprint on the Pi. I guess I'm a little confused about why some people seem to require new firmware on the printer when this appears to work while just using the USB port? Would love a couple thoughts to clarify if you have a moment. Also, I've read the USB port is not reliable, and thus the serial connection is a better option. Have you found that? And is connecting via the Serial connection when the more complicated firmware updates are required? Thank you for making this video - very much appreciated! Would really love to see you expend on this very approachable start to installing this software, to then talk about the installation of various plugins and other options.
@3dPrintedSoup9 ай бұрын
You read my mind matey, am working on a plugin video as we speak. The complicated stuff comes in when you start writing your own commands, macros and setup a server to run multiple parts from multiple printers . Might take a bit of time as am running a side line in 3d printed light guns at the moment as well, video on that to follow. Thanks for watching and taking the time to chat :)

Id really like to do this mod, but cant seem to find any way to activate my once-working usb. Maybe somebody out there could shed some light?? I've a sneeky suspicion that the usb should be data only. which means i maybe now need a new motherboard.!!! Any thoughts please??
@3dPrintedSoup9 ай бұрын
I’ve got 3 Ender 3s running from standard usb connections so don’t think it’s you using usb, there is no cable that is data only as USB is a standard format. If your board has blown it is unlikely to be due to using a standard usb(unless there was a power spike or surge). Luckily boards for most Ender 3 models are easy to find online.
