Is it typical to put 2 exhalation ports on a Respironics dreamstation set to bipap, and using a philips Respironics face mask? I've never seen 2 ports added to the tubing, but my boss said there has to be 2. In the case I'm referring to, he added 2 O2 bleed in connectors to the tubing and said they had to be there as exhalation ports.

Great video. Explained everything I had a question about except 1. The question I have is about using a SoClean system. In the morning I put my mask (with unheated hose attached) into my SoClean. Will adding the oxygen Enrichment Adapter to the back of my CPAP machine (Resmed S9) hurt either the machine or the SoClean?

Very helpful video. I’m taking a vacation to a high altitude location. I’ve rented an oxygen concentrator for the week. Is it ok to use my travel ResMed AirMini with oxygen or should I bring my ResMed AirSense 11?

There is a soclean adapter for heated tubes that you can use with a port on it that you can put on the machine at base

You are correct. All you need to do is pick up a Soclean adapter for around $25.00 on the internet, pull off the 6” rubber tube, (this normally goes into the humidifier on a Dreamstation.). Plug the Soclean adapter into the BiPap humidifier, then plug in the heated tube into the adapter. 30 seconds work and your all set without a mess. My provider, Nick showed me this. It’s so simple.

Question(s): Can the Sunset Zoey CPAP adapter be used for the oxygen connection on the heated hose? It has the electrical connections for the hose and can be placed in line at the humidifier. Would this be safe to use?

That is a good practice. You just want to avoid running the oxygen concentrator when it is not in use on a person. If you do, you run the risk of creating an oxygen rich environment which can be a fire danger. That is something to keep in mind whether you are using CPAP or not. Also keep in mind that when you first turn on an oxygen concentrator it takes a few minutes to develop the pure oxygen.

When I connect the oxygen to my air sense 10 cpap I receive the oxygen but not the usual air pressure that the cpap blows. Is this how is supposed to work?

The CPAP machine has a higher pressure, how does the back pressure prevent the oxygen from getting in the line? Seems like you should need a check valve?

I can't comment on the engineering of it, but I know that the oxygen flows fine through the bleed in. If there is any obstruction to the oxygen you will notice the liter flow drop on the oxygen concentrator. Have never seen that happen with a bleed in valve or the oxygen tubing.

I am thinking the same thing.....with the high BiPap pressures I need, even my exhale pressure is higher pressure than the 5 psi output of the home oxygen concentrator I have. Most 5 LPM max O2 at home concentrators put out 5 psi max, so I have really not figured how it will work. Lower pressure will not flow to higher pressure.....no engineering needed.....it will not happen. I have thought of trying to rig a device to the input of BiPap where there is a filter......it goes from that input right into BiPap motor, then to the water (humidfier) and then out the hose to the mask. Just need to verify running the oxygen THROUGH the bipap (blower, humidifier, hose, mask) will not pose any danger or risk.

My mother wears the Trilogy at night and on oxygen 24hrs a day, but her therapist has her to keep the nasal cannula in her nose with the full face Trilogy mask on because her oxygen levels were dropping with the feed in. Is this normal?

That is definitely a question for your personal Physician. However, the most common prescription level that we see is 2 LPM. But we have seen prescriptions from 1 LPM of oxygen all the way to 10LPM of oxygen. So it can be different for everyone.
