l have to say, as much as l love your previous speedrun history videos, this series has truly been a cut above the rest so far, providing all of the information that came with your close and enduring involvement in the community while still trying to keep an objective retelling in spite of it. As a pure stranger to the Jak speedrun community, l'm not sure if you'll stay closely involved all the way through the next 6 videos, but l can at least tell from their interviews that the other runners still see you fondly to this day, and isn't that what everyone always says is best at the end of the day -- that the world records were the friends you made along the way?
@ThaRixer Жыл бұрын
Big words man thank you, and very true. I keep making Jak videos because the community is amazing. For over a decade I've felt very welcome there

Growing up I always enjoyed escaping into the world of Jak and Daxter. In those days it didn’t even really occur to me that people would want to speed run Jak. Kid me was too busy trying not to die and deep down never wanting the game to end. It’s been really fun to see how interest and obsession with classic games lives on long after the credits roll. Thanks for the amazing content!

Everything about this video is incredible, but I especially love how you talked about the struggle glitch hunters can face in games. 97% of the time I've tried hunting for new strats I've come up short, but some might just see the other 3% and think it's easy. Simply Amazing. I always find it so interesting to learn about the history of speedruns. I can't wait for all the other parts of this! I find the evolution of the movement used really fascinating! I joined the Jak speedrunning community in 2017-2018 and a lot of things like jetboard movement wherever possible was something every runner did and was mastering/mastered at the time. Seeing how the jetboard wasn't used much at first, to then go to people like Bdub and Raccoon mastering certain sections with it, and now seeing how much it's currently used throughout Jak 2 and Jak 3 just blows my mind.
@ThaRixer Жыл бұрын
Yea especially sections like eco mine, bomb train and palace ruins the jetboarding has really come along way.

Great vid as always Ricky. It's so refreshing to watch runners with a sense of integrity. I've met people that had taken advantage of their loading times or any other unfair tool just to get an arbitrary record. Thank you very much! I am not a particularly accomplished glitch hunter myself. Finding skips has never interested me as much as grinding runs, but it's important to think about how you go about beating the game and how you can shorten the A to B. You know, the more and more I see of this "Era project", the more the idea of a "The man, who broke Jak in half" seems to be missing the point, as there really isn't a singular individual, who discovered the most skips in the game, but rather, the continued breaking of the game is a joint effort by the whole community!

You may be the best and fastest player in a game, but there will always be someone who's better and faster than you, and that's okay! It encourages you to shatter your limits. You overcome your ceilings, breaking through your shell and reach levels beyond what your speed running skills allows. It's also about having fun!
