I actually hate the entire cast for the movie, I’m not a conservative, I’m gay trans and mixed race. They didn’t cast any character with anyone who looks like the originals so I don’t think it’s supposed to be a copy of the original. Which would make sense but at the same time they should’ve just left it all alone and not made the live action in the first place. They left it with a good ending and should’ve kept it that way

I'm usually on the side of the argument that wants representation done in a way thats supported by writing and not just a cosmetic aspect of a character. I’m not black, but I feel the same way. Like I, a normal person, don’t care if they wanna make a character black. But because there are so many racist weirdos, the black actors that play these characters end up suffering the most from the backlash. I remember when Annie 2014 came out. So many ppl were being racist and hateful because Annie was black. Any attention is good attention to the company’s. When they make characters black they know they are gonna get both good and negative press. I don’t care if they wanna make characters black. I have so many white characters to choose from. Nothing is being taken from me. But when it comes to ppls favorite characters they get protective. And I just feel so bad for the black actors that become the topic of a controversy that of a they didn’t start.

I am too. It just puts a big target on our backs. And while I support it, it does still feel lazy that they cast a young woman of color into a role who was originally white in a remake that no one asked for, instead of allowing black animators to create original stories with black characters.

As a white person I'm sorry they're putting an entire race in a position where they're going to be attracted and harmed. I'd love to live in a world where casting was based on talent alone. But that's sadly not the case. I'm sorry my race of people suck so much! We're truly the worst.

I was just thinking about that! I find it especially hilarious when racists use the excuse of “inaccurate adaptation” to characters that would by their logic already have been misinterpreted. With regards to HTTYD, I don't care really since the animated franchise had a few Black people here and there too and had a few anachronisms as well so the idea of a version of Astrid having Black ancestry isn't wild to me in a franchise that never cared too much about historical accuracy either(they had a minor character named freaking Chagatai Khan in the third movie, which is set centuries before the birth of the historical Chaghatai Khan). Though I am confident Nico Parker's portrayal of her won't change any character lore of her in this remade movie so these guys are just plain stupid for complaining about it. With regards to the LGBT stuff, you are either irreligious, identify with a religion but also politically identify as liberal, a bit too horny or you're stupid. As far as religious people like me are concerned, those "diverse" books may as well be CP. And if you want to appeal to the "But same sex partners can consent, children can't. Big difference" argument, then it's hardly any different than CONSENSUAL inc*st stuff. I mean, would it be okay if they were both infertile?! Or siblings of the same sex?! For your kind information, sodomy(a man penetrating another man) is so horrible a deed that they need to be literally stoned to end their life as a merciful punishment. Yes, that's how horrible of a crime it is. Only thing worse is I guess incest and bestiality and that's just a guess. Lesbianism isn't as bad but it's definitely horrible and deserving of severe punishment. Why should people just ignore that FACT just so a bunch of degenerates who love to engage in inhuman acts could be degenerates who love to engage in inhuman acts?! There should be no tolerance for crimes worthy of getting stoned to death as mere punishment. That is no more diversity than representation of necrophiliacs and grapists as heroes.(And those existed in some ancient polytheistic mythologies).

If children are allowed to think for themselves they might come to the conclusion that capitalism is designed to only benefit the rich and powerful and fuck over everyone else. We can definitely enjoy Leah's portrayal of Annabeth. Unlike, let's say, Rapunzel, her blond hair and her grey eyes were not important to the story at all. This Astrid situation is more like Rapunzel than Annabeth. Percy Jackson takes place in 21st century America. Annabeth could plausibly be black. But Astrid lives in Scandinavia in the Viking Age (800-1050). It's like casting Lupita Nyong'o as the live-action Rapunzel while keeping the setting and time period the same. The aesthetic of the Kingdom of Corona, Flynn Rider, and Mother Gothel are all kept the same...except for Rapunzel.

Surely there are other populations of dragons. Some, likely _most_ in fact, of them are bound to have been outside Toothless' influence, so maybe the new generation hitched a ride on some migratory dragons and they ended up far from home among a culture new to them.

The native name for China is the "Middle Kingdom." Most paganisms didn't survive to the modern day, but they definitely existed along ethnic and cultural lines. Why would a 1st century Roman worship the Egyptian Horus over the Roman Jupiter? A few aristocrats that had the money and the interest would travel the ancient world to get initiated into all the mystery religions, but they were exceptions to the rule.

So it’s funny she tries to complain that it’s not original to the story even though the real original stores were rewritten for the purpose of appealing to all audiences. Just about all of them are rolls that used to be white women and are now women of color. It feels disingenuous, because instead of creating new wholesome stories where these women could absolutely kill it, they're now setting these actors up to face massive backlash for being a different color than the original, and it feels like they're actively hunting for fights about race and roles. I think instead of having actors from different races than the original character playing the part, Disney should just make NEW movies with main characters of different races 🤷‍♀️

0:33 Okay, to be fair, The Parent Trap was not nostalgia bait. Nobody knew it was even a remake. It wasn't marketed as one. There are probably millions of people today who don't even know it's a remake of a 1961 flick (that was itself based on a 1949 Germal novel). It was just an easy star vehicle for Lindsay 'cause the movie was essentially pre-written.

I don’t know - there’s only 9 years between the three made-for-TV sequels to Parent Trap in 1986, 1989, and 1989 and the remake in 1998. I think more people knew it was a remake than you think. Also, Disney was pumping out remakes of their ‘60s movies - including Nutty Professor, That Darn Cat, and Flubber - throughout the 90s.

I hated the remake. The original was perfect. They didn't need to remake it. FFS, they could have made her the granddaughter of one of the twins and an illegitimate cousin could show up challenging the rights to the vineyard. I can think of a million ways to sequel that movie lol.

One time I was chatting with my friends about the parent trap and it took ten minutes of arguing about hair color to realize there were two. I was shocked to learn that there was a remake. My friends were shocked to learn it was a remake.

The Wicked thing is especially funny to me because 1) Elphaba’s mother is a woman of color in the book and 2) Cynthia Erzio literally has the perfect singing voice for the role.

As a Dane, we Scandinavians do not give a single fuck about if a black girl is playing a viking. These people need to brush up on history because 1: viking is not a race, it was a part-time job and 2: OF COURSE THIS MOVIE ISN'T HISTORICALLY ACCURATE THERE ARE DRAGONS IN IT😭Did these people expect historical accuracy in a movie titled 'How to train your dragon'?

No. The characters were originally invented in 1900 by L Frank Baum. Wicked is pretty much fanfiction because it isn't truly an original property.

I don't see these people complaining when a mixed person is cast for a black role, but the moment it's for a white role, it's suddenly inauthentic huh It's almost like they don't actually care about white representation, they just don't wanna see a black person on their screen :/ (not that there's anything wrong with casting mixed actors in any scenario, I'm just pointing out the hypocricy)
@M.L89-u8f
@M.L89-u8f Ай бұрын
But notice the hypocrisy for a moment though...because this only affects actors who are mixed with BLACK. They would have no problem if she was a quarter Asian or a quarter Indigenous because they have more proximity to whiteness that they can benefit from than someone like Nico. I guarantee too, if she lied and said she was Italian, they would have not complained either...!
