Brah, you fixed it! My wife was literally just on the phone with Kitchenaid, and she was asking me to box it up to send it to them. It was going to be at least $350. I asked for 15 minutes to see if I could fix it. The challenge was on. :-) I found your video and did the exact thing to my mixer, and voilà, I was done in less than 15 minutes. Thanks!

Thank you! This is a great video and such a simple fix. Mine was randomly working if I started on high. After blowing flour up all over my kitchen one last time, I found your video and bazinga, it's working!

Thank you. I've lived with this problem for over 2 years. This fixed it right up, and now, it works like new. Only thing I needed to remember was which was the order of the wires as well as the position of the ribbon connector. Otherwise, all is good.

Fantastic instructions. Easy repair and it got our Pro 5 Plus running again. Also looks like an easy fix if the switch ever dies altogether, but cleaning it worked amazing this time! Thank you!!!

Beautiful! Fixed it right up and saved a choice between mailing into to Kitchenaid or buying a new mixer. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this helpful video! I was about to order a new controller, but somehow caught on to the fact that the slide could just be gummed up by flour, which was the case. I didn't see a day/night improvement after cleaning, but it's definitely operable now. I no longer have to use pliers to switch on the machine! I will also say that the most challenging part of this "repair" was simply not losing screws into the machine.

Thank you so much for this! I've had so much trouble with the switch and now its fixed!! I'm quite impressed with myself. Eventhough I lost 2 screws that fell somewhere inside the back of the machine😬

This was very helpful! I didn't want to take it all apart so I tried blowing the switch out with compressed air and it worked this time. If I have the problem again I'll have to try taking it apart. Thank you for making the video showing how to fix it 🙂

Thank you for this. You saved me from a massive headache in trying to get my mixer serviced. This was the exact issue had and your fix worked like a charm. The hardest part was finding the right screwdriver. I was surprised by how much gunk was in there and, fortunately, I was able to pull the cotton away from the q-tip so I didn't have to find tweezers like you did. Whew. Now I can go back to baking. Fighting the machine was messing with my baking mojo.

If the slot is a bit too narrow for the Q Tip , smash the cotton tip with hammer between something solid. This will squeeze it just enough to fit.

Good video but the lack of close up views makes me feel unsure about opening up and working on the mixer. I ended up opening up the mixer as you showed, thanks- What I did was use some electrical contact cleaner spray that I sprayed into the slide assembly. Afterward the switch worked every time, but over a few days it became very stiff to operate. I went back in with some WD-40 on the slide and the switch loosened up nicely.

Your video has been helpful .. but I have aa 5 yr old 8 qt stand mixer and that slider switch has been mounted to the main circuit board and has a plastic cover that apparently was added to protect from flour and dirt from getting into the slide switch. Too bad it didn't work and I now have to revove the motor to get access to the circuit board and clean the inside switch. I saw another person's video who sells replacement switch boards and they do take off the motor and disconnect it's power plug thingy. One thing that would help is for you to list the types and sizes of screw drivers/bits used. So for, 3/32 hex bit to get the outside of the head screws off. I just went and bought star screw bits and the T15 size fits the motor screws. Right now they are on so tight, I'm gonna have to use a power drill to unloosen them. I need to get my ole 8 qt mixer working in a week since I have a big recipe to make.. I'll continue slowly on this.. if you have any feedback, it'd be welcome. Thanks again for your video. it's given me the confidence I've needed! :-)

Thanks for the sign of moral support!! :-) Couple of quick notes/edits from my atrociously spelled comment. I guess YT doesn't enable spell check .. Additional info: that clear plastic protector cover holds a plastic extender.. the switch knob that sticks outside the chassis that you pull along back and forth.. that actually is connected directly to this extender and the extender is attached to the actual mechanical / electric contact switch (that needs cleaning) which is mounted to the CB and is offset forward (to the mixer unit) about an inch or so - the distance of that extender. Correction: it's the outer clear plastic holder - that the external pull metal knob thingy sticks out, that is screwed into the main circuit board.. not the mechanical slide switch.. as noted it's mounted on the CB with appropriate soldered connections about an inch forward and is directly below the electric motor but before the head gear mechanism that is held by those T15 star screws. Here's the thing.. I REALLY REALLY do NOT want to open up the motor and it's gear mechanism. IMO, it's literally worse than opening a can of worms . So.. I have used a keyboard dust/dirt spray can with a thin plastic straw and have used it to physically stick into the mechanical switch and blew that switch up down and side ways.. also was able to move the switch and blow on the mechanical 0 1 2 settings Will let it dry out / cool off overnight and try it when I am more awake! Will keep you updated.. Thanks again!! 🙌

As Professor Farnsworth says Good news everybody !! That can of keyboard cleaner spray, with the thin straw nozzle aimed inside the mounted switch and moved back and forth and repeated.. WORKED! No need to mess with anything else! I think this change from your model is actually better. Just remove the top and aim it on that switch! When I sprayed the cleaner on the switch it looked like flour dusted thr circuit board.. I sprayed more and left overnight. This AM, I put back in all the interior screws (I needlessly removed!) and tightened them and turned the ole 8QT (after plugging in 😂) That slide switch works EXCELLENT now.. and I have extra cans of keyboard cleaner spray ready... for the next cleaning.. maybe in another 5 yrs 😅 Whoo hoo and thanks 🎉
