Looks like CarlinKit has released yet *another* version that claims to be even newer than the ones I tested in this video, and comes in a blue case. Hard to say if the new version actually has different hardware, or just upgraded firmware as in the case of the adapters I bought. Whichever version you buy, just make sure you upgrade the firmware for the latest fixes etc.

I purchased one on Amazon called superiortek and my screen in my Honda gets all glitchy and distorted, my music sometimes cuts off and sometimes phone calls drop. Do you ever have these issues?

I did a video on this about a year ago and it's a great device. The only issue I've ever had with it is in the summer time when the interior car temp gets really hot. On those days it can get really laggy until it cools back down to a decent temp, then it works fine. Have you experienced this at all?
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
I have not run into this. Was 101F today, and my truck sat outside all day. No problem when I’m hopped in to run somewhere around 6:30 pm. Roasting hot inside the truck… have you tried maybe moving the adapter to where it can be cooled by the A/C?
@usna982 жыл бұрын
@@AmplifyDIY Yes, it does start working normally when the AC cools the interior (and the device) back down. It took a while for this behavior to manifest after I installed it. It's not a huge issue; was just wondering if anyone else had seen it. Thanks!

Nice video. Thank you. Question: if I need to charge my phone I use a cable and one of the auto’s usb outlets. These are the same outlets I was using to connect to CarPlay. Does the cable connection override the Bluetooth device and when I disconnect do I need to set up the adapter again?
@AmplifyDIYАй бұрын
To your car, this device appears to be a phone so it triggers CarPlay to load on your infotainment screen. If you have 2 USB ports where you can plug in phones for CarPlay, then when you plug in another phone you may have to hunt around in your infotainment screen to choose which device to use. Or, simply unplug the adapter when you want to have your phone wired. You won't have to set up the adapter again if you unplug it. Once it's configured, it remembers it's settings even when unplugged. Great question!

I heard that maybe in the latest firmware(s) you could tweak the delay to be as short as possible without having it stop working (e.g. 300ms). Is that true?
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know yet… there has been a delay setting in the firmware for a while, but it did not seem to make any difference. I’ll go try it in the newest!
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
ok, checked latest firmware. From the phone interface there *is* a place to change the media delay. Mine was set to 1000ms. I tried to change it to 100ms, but that produced an error. It looks like the field is supposed to accept anything from 200 - 3000ms, but it kept throwing errors when I tried 200, 201, 225, 250, etc. It did accept 300, which is where I have it set now. I can't say *for sure* that it made any difference.... it _maybe_ feels a little faster to play/pause, but that could just be placebo effect from changing the number. Thanks for pointing this out!

Mine connects wireless but it sounds way better and louder when plugged in. Always wondered if you could get the same quality of sound wirelessly
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
These adapters seem to be identical when I use them vs. plugged in for sound quality. CarPlay does always sound quieter in my truck for some reason (wired, or wireless through one of these adapters). When I switch to Radio, I always have to turn it down because it's too loud after turning it up to hear a podcast through CarPlay, for example. I've searched in vain for any explanation... How is it holding up so far? Any issues?
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hanzo - The only issue is related to the specific car: Sometimes it does not connect when the car is first started up, due to how the firmware in the car behaves. This is the same with an actual phone though, so I can't fault the dongle. I have the same dongle in my Ford truck, and it works perfectly there. Thanks for watching!
@kendaljohnson66922 жыл бұрын
My last car had the plug, and the new car is wireless. The new wireless is always connecting to the wrong phone, or refusing to connect to the right one. I wish I had the old fashioned switchboard simplicity of “this plug, this phone”. I’ll just play this video backwards, and then bingo! That’ll work, right?
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
With this device, my wife and I have figured out the pattern: it will typically try to connect to the last device it was connected to. However, if I forget and leave my phone in my pocket, then jump out of the truck to run inside somewhere (forgot something in the house, run into a store, etc), it automatically connects to her phone because mine goes out of range. When I come back, it does not reconnect to my phone. Then next time I start the truck it tries to connect to her phone because that’s the last one it connected with, etc. Maybe your car is doing something similar? Thanks for watching!

i have this but since i use this device i cannot connect to my dashcam wifi anymore
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hi Raji - I've run into this issue as well. I have a Viofo dash cam, and my phone aggressively re-connects to the CarPlay adapter whenever I try to switch it to the dash cam wifi. I actually witnessed an accident a few days ago, and pulled over to provide my dashcam footage to the police. I had to just unplug this carplay adapter so my phone would stay connected to the dash cam so I could pull the footage. Luckily, I rarely need to connect to the dash cam - but if you need to connect to it often, any wireless CarPlay adapter like this one will cause issues.

Amazing video, but I'm wondering since I have a lower version of a infotainment unit if this would work in my Tahoe🤔
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hi MrArob826 - if your Tahoe supports wired CarPlay, then yes. If not, then no. All this adapter does is convert a wired CarPlay-capable car into wireless CarPlay. It *does* work with aftermarket head units as well - so if your car did not originally support CarPlay, but you've upgraded the stereo/infotainment to something aftermarket that does, you can use this adapter there as well. I hope this covers it - let me know if you have other questions, and thanks for watching!

@@AmplifyDIY Thank you for you detailed response. I have the original infotainment center, but it's the 2015 version that doesn't have Apple car play, so I was hoping that this unit would work, so I wouldn't have to use the cable anymore
