very useful! just got my first AR and got the CMMG conversion and its awesome being able to get a feel for the gun without spending a ton on ammo. and after 150 rounds the other day, the first round chambered was a FTF but every round after that shot smooth as if the gun were made for .22lr. Easy "Temporary" conversion back to 10 round for the "Unfriendly" states. While the mag is apart, use a small drill bit to finish drilling the pin hole from the inside thru to the outside. Temporarily press the mag halves back together, and using the hole you just drilled as a guide, drill a hole part-way thru in the other half of the mag. Don't go all the way thru. You're just making a place for the screw point to go. Counter-sink the hole on the screw head side of the mag, on the outside. Use a small, thin, Flathead wood screw of appropriate size & length, and thread it into the counter-sunk side, until flush and slightly below the outside surface. When you're somewhere you can use 25 rds, remove the screw. When you can't, insert the screw, and it will act as the Pin did to restrict the follower from allowing more than 10 rounds. If you're creative, you can find a place on the mag to drill a small hole, in which to screw in, and "store" the wood screw, so you don't lose it. I found the best place, for me, was between the two lower, inside curve screws, just on the lower side of the twin right-angle, divider rib. Mostly un-noticeable to the casual eye. Use a Phillips screw head or "identical to original" hex key head screw.

i tried to reverse the 25rder I got to add a pin to use with family in a non 25rd friendly state. got the pins donated to me, and after opening, found that the ones manufactured for 25 don't have that hole to push the pin in.

They made it purposely this way.. you can see the pin on the outside as well you can knock it inward as well and shake it out with the spring extended.

Is there a color code on the plastic follower (orange or green or yellow) in terms of year of mag production or in terms of numbers of rounds?

Thank you! It seems the follower for the 10 rd mag is yellow and the 25 rd mag is orange. It seemed different in the past. They used to have a green follower too. If you are trying to determine the capacity of a magazine you can load rounds in and count how many it will hold.

I wonder if this fix can be done for other gun magazines as well. I have a Beretta 92 x that was California compliant. Only holds 10 rounds. Do you know if there is a similar pin that can be removed in the Beretta magazines to allow it to the full 16 rounds?

no pistol magazines do not use this system. they stamp dimples in the steel so the follower can't go down

Depends on the magazine. Some magazines just use a dimple on a standard magazine and those are typically able to be converted. Other magazine types could be similar to Glock OEM 10 round mags for their compact and fullsize guns which are actually single stack internally so conversion is not really possible. Another option you might see, especially if the manufacturer makes a subcompact variant of the pistol, is a 10 round magazine with an extension which cannot be converted to higher capacity at all (Ruger SR9 and American Pistol are two examples of this).
