Day Three - Norfolk Coastal Path | Blakeney to Cromer | Cool Dudes Walking Club

The third day of my Norfolk Coastal Path walk. Today I started off in Blakeney then headed to Cley-next-the-sea before walking along the shingle beach to Weybourne. It was then on to Sheringham and the Beeston Bump before an unplanned detour and arrival in Cromer.

At 4.20: that is a light cable percussion drilling rig used by geotechnical engineers to drill a borehole for the purpose to taking samples to establish geology at depth. Information needed when designing foundations for buildings or infrastructure such as coastal protection structures. Geology rocks!

Even worse than someone following you at exactly the same speed is if someone joins your path from a footpath junction about 20-50m in front of you and proceeds to walk in front of you marginally slower than you, so that you inevitably have to slowly overtake them in a few minutes.

I've always loved the Asterix books - I have two small WH Smith published volumes, and the paper still smells the same (albeit fainter) which really takes me back. I never had the complete collection, so I recently bought a load of them and completed the set!

Ah yes. I remember the smaller ones too. My favourite of all the books was Asterix and the Banquet. They are very uplifting books. My parents used to read them when we went to bed and laugh at all the names which went over my head when I was seven.

AAARGH the shingle! I was staying in Wells and wanted to do the parkrun in Sheringham at 9am so ran it (no car), setting off at 5 am - the shingle nearly killed me but I BLOODY MADE IT with 5 mins to spare. Great videos, I've got lots of happy memories of that coast and the vids bring them all back.

I bought the first Famous Five to read to my niece about five years ago as I had never read it. When I went back to London I wanted to find out what happened so I bought it for myself on my Kindle so no one could see what I was reading.

I applaud you for completing the dreary shingle stretch from Cley. You are truly a completist unlike ourselves. We read about the dullness of that bit in the guide book and decided to cheat by getting the bus from Cley to Sheringham. We weren’t too smug when we got there though because the path to Beacon Hill was closed off and we missed that great view you got. Thanks and looking forward to the next one! My favourite school books were ‘Flat Stanley’ and ‘Grinny’ by Nicholas Fisk.

When we went to Hemsby a couple of years ago and had a dip in the sea a couple of seals came up close to us, about 8-10ft away, just bobbing there staring at us for a little bit and then off they went away again. They kept popping back too. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. Love seals 💜 Another fab video Mr Larwood. Cheers me dears!

Good to see Sheringham has still got its own Coastwatch Station, a rare sight nowadays. I walked past LeeonSolent Coastguard building back in September & its still laying derelict, such a waste! Isn't Cromer a lovely olde worlde place with its Victorian pier? I visited there & The Norfolk Broads many years ago (to walk not boating.) Was that bike really for sale @ £2?! Enid Blyton Famous 5 with Timmy the dog, Roald Dahl James & The Giant Peach & Alf Proysen, Mrs Pepperpot, were & still all my favourites! 🌞🚶‍♂️

I loved the choose your own adventure books but my FAVE by far as a kid was 'The curse of the vampires socks' by Terry Jones.....lots of different funny poems, still love it now! Great vid, stay cool 👍

I read a lot of Point Horror and Darren Shan books as a teenager. When I was really young I loved Pinocchio. I read it so often, can still remember the first few pages word for word.

I have not heard of Point Horror, I just googled it and it said HBO are going to make an anthology series (this was in 2019). Also I have never thought to read Pinocchio. It was written in 1883. (I just read the Wikipedia page). It also says in the first version he gets hung at the end by a Fox and a cat!

The Point Horror books were more aimed towards teen girls I think. I used to read Walt Disneys version of Pinocchio which I’m assuming is a little more ‘child friendly’. I’m quite intrigued by the original now, thanks for the info. I think I’ll make that the next one on my reading list if I can find it.

I'm thinking of doing this path in April next year. Your detour took you on the old route up to Beacon Hill, the highest point in Norfolk. The detour is mentioned in the guide book you have and is an option if you want a change from the coastal path.

I was a bit of a bookworm as a kid but my favourite “books” were free annual Hornby train catalogues that I picked up from a local toy shop. I used to dream about all the cool train sets I couldn’t afford. Btw the view of the sea at 6:33 from Sheringham is amazing - it looks like a clip from the movie The Red Turtle. Thanks for another very cool video (although I’ve got all x3 challenges wrong so far this series - doh!)

Train catalogue are possibly one of the most relaxing books to look at. I remember looking at one round a friends house and being totally engrossed by the type of trees you could buy.

I started reading the Magic Faraway Tree for the first time last year. Her ideas were incredible. I think it is because her name sounds like the oldest lady in the world.

Books as a kid I read growing up in the states; The Choose Your Own Adventure series was excellent. Lots of kids solve mystery books as well.. The Boxcar Children, The Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown. Not sure if any of those made it to the UK. I also don't know why so many of those books had to do with kids solving "mysteries" which would literally be things like someone keeps stealing my socks.

Great vid. I really need to go to more places in Norfolk. I've only ever been to Great Yarmouth. Years ago I went out with a lad from the next county along(Suffolk) and we went on some very pretty walks around there. Oh God, I read absolute trash when I was younger. From the age of around ten up until fifteen I mostly read romance novels. I loved the stories but I'd get really annoyed that the lead male character was described as what girls were expected to fancy(tall, dark and with muscles or a surfer dude)and the girl was always 'perfect' looking too.So after a while I just skipped past the descriptions and imagined me and Brett Anderson in pretty much every story. 😂

l did the shingle walk, when l got back to work something went ping in my calf, and l couldnt walk, god the agony. luckily l work in hospital and a lovely porter took me in a wheel chair to a&e. our map also took us in land, it was nice in the woods. l wonder if you can get all along the caravan sites. will have to google map it. will never walk on shingle again.

I haven't read any of the new ones. I loved it when I was growing up - Asterix and the Great Banquet or something was one of my favourites. I just bought Asterix in Switzerland from my local charity shop. I will read it soon.

My favourite books were pretty much anything by Roald Dahl, Little Vampire, choose your own adventure books and a book called The World's Greatest Mysteries that my mum got me for some reason, it was about hauntings and UFOs and stuff, I remember it had a photo of a nun with stigmata and blood coming out of her eyes and hands, it used to scare the hell out of me.

The problem with shingle is you ain't got time to fix it. One of my favourite childhood books (although probably a bit younger than 12) was Mr Mead and his Garden about a gardener overrun with slugs and snails.

Looks like you're using a Fenix 6? Your probably know but you have the ability to pause an activity using the "resume later" option and your watch return to normal state. Once you've finished what else you're doing you can restart the activity from the same location and you'll have just recorded the walk info. Apologies if you already know this.

The first one I got was Forest of Doom, so I have an emotional attachment to that. I also enjoyed Caverns of the Snow Witch and Trial of the Champions. I've recently started to collect them off ebay where I can but many are over priced. They re-released them a couple of years ago but with terrible new illustrations. Madness. But a few weeks ago I found an earlier release of grey coloured books in my charity shop. There were nine books with the original illustrations, just Warlock of Firetop Mountain missing. I got them all for £3!!!!!! I have never read House of Hell but that is in the set. I meant to read it for Halloween, but was too busy editing. Ha. (Also I think Citadel of Doom and Deathtrap Dungeon are great).

Did you actually play with the dice and keep score or just keep your finger on the page and go back when you read the wrong choice and died? 😂

I have just got 'Appointment with Fear' as I never had it and heard good things. I would always start to use the dice then give up and opt for the multiple finger bookmark tactic.
