On this video, I will show you how to mount an extra oil cooler on your Trx400ex so that you drop about thirty degrees Fahrenheit in engine temperature. My Trx is 2003, but this works on all years as far as I know. Thanks for watching.

For the naysayers: I don't believe this would lower the overall oil pressure. It might take a couple seconds longer at startup to build initial pressure but the diameter of the return line is still the factory spec, therefore the pressure should remain the same. If anyone had any major concern, it should be simple enough to plumb in a pressure gauge before completing the mod to develop a baseline for normal oil pressure, then check it again after completing the modification.

Yeah but you got air bubbles in the oil that could or could not cause cavitation which would burn up the oil pump and blow the engine

Thanks for the extremely helpful video. I’m new to working on my trx400. Do you have to drain the cooler when you chance your oil? Also how would you flare the line after cutting?
@zarca_powersports
@zarca_powersports 4 жыл бұрын
trenton kaspar No, all you have to do is empty out your oil reservoir while your bike is warm. To clean the line all I did was hit it with an air pressure tank line to get all the small stuff out of there. Thanks fo watching.

Great video, I do have one question. Did you have to flare out the ends of the pipe/oil line(where you cut) to prevent the rubber hoses from slipping off because of the pressure or do the hose clamps hold it together just fine?
@zarca_powersports

Chris Brackney the clamps hold it just fine for mine, just make sure their tight.

Hey bro instead of adding a another oil cooler to my 400EX I installed computer cooling fans on it that work off of 12 volt that extra oil cooler is cool but how do you get all the oil out of it when you give it an oil change you're still going to have burned oil in there there's no way for it to drain back into the tank so just putting that out there and then how much extra oil did you have to add to the system for that oil cooler an extra quart and don't get me wrong it is a good thing I'm not saying I'm not I'm not trying to be down on your your modification I'm just I'm not going to do mine that way

Works the same way as the stock oil coolant, it all falls back down to the engine when cold. I’ve never had an issue with having old oil on my quad after and oil change. Just drain both sides the transmission bolt drain and regular oil pan drain.
@michaelthomas788
@michaelthomas788 2 жыл бұрын
@@zarca_powersports yo what I'm talking about is the oil left in the coolant in both oil coolers you can't ever get that out or if any metal for an objects end up in there you can never clean them out when I used to work when I used to work on cars for a living if somebody brought me a vehicle with a blown up transmission they'd either replace the radiator to get rid of the contaminants in the tranny cooler that's hooked to the radiator or put an aftermarket transmission oil cooler not using the radiator any longer just to make sure when you put your new transmission none of the foreign body objects that ended up passing through that oil cooler end up going back into your transmission and destroying your new one

this mod will not cause engine failure. more then likely youve never cleaned the screen in the bottom of the oil cooler an your motor wasnt getting oil. the bottom fitting where the lower hose hooks to on the oil res. is what needs to be taken out an cleaned. all this mod does is allow for more oil, an it cools it twice before going into the oil res.

@@StuntTube It will not affect oil pressure the pump will put out the same pressure no matter how much farther it has to travel. Now when the engine starts I'm not sure if it will take a little longer for the oil to completely circulate as fast as stock which could lead to oil starvation but that should only be for a few seconds on startup. I don't see anything that this would hurt at all.
